Sorry everyone for the use of the word “notorious.” I actually did not know the connotation behind the word. My initial thought was that the word was synonymous with legendary, iconic, and looked up to. I apologize sincerely.
No worries, I could tell that's what you meant, in south Africa we also misuse some English words for our own use and meaning.
I was realy waiting for the end of the video so I can correct you on that one because your description really is not good for the property value in these communities. These people are going out of their way to ensure that the value of their properties is kept in check and protected. There is no place in South Africa that you will not find pockets of crimes even in the affluent suburbs but it's not as bad as the media makes look like especially in the black communities. There will come a time where content creators will be sued for misrepresentation of the actual state of these neighborhoods if you guys are not careful. Love your video and I will subscribe. Keep doing the good work.
That's a lie, you speak English. How can you not know? I understand you tough. You've probably heard people say this but they exxagerate
@@pmambongwe8640that's not a lie. It was very clear that the word was clushing with the rest of the sentence. English first language speakers also make mistakes. Some do not know the actual meaning of some words. Go to England, you'll be shocked at the amount of broken English you will find there. The same applies to the US
I could tell you didn't mean harm. You're one of my favourite RUclipsrs. Your reactions, especially on South Africa come from a good place and your love for our country. You're nothing like those who use us for numbers. I love your work. Keep up the good job❤
FIY Soweto has many Neighborhoods with many of them being safe, sometimes I feel like the media exaggerates things ...
Soweto can't be a Township at this point considering when you see some cities or suburbs in many countries, you then realise how good Soweto is
Very very notorious the exaggeration this media
@@lozi4163that’s true I agree with you
@@bathabiletshabalala2897sorry for the use of that word
Yes you’re correct. The media shows a certain narrative. Its great that there’s RUclips, and we can see the truth.
The media likes to exaggerate the 12 % infomal dwelling, when in fact South Africa is 88% Formal Settlement with organized communities. With access to electricity, roads, water, etc.
Unfortunately the world doesn't know that, but one thing they have to ask themselves is why we generally wanna stay at home and never dream of leaving.
I feel safer when im in Soweto ,i can hold my cellphone in my hands unlike places that has a lot of illegals e.g Joburg CBD,Hillbrow etc.
True
Facts!
I agree
That's very true
I was born and grew up in Soweto, and to be frank I never experienced the level of "danger" people say there is. Though crime exists, it's not as exaggerated and Soweto is also a warm place to reside.
I’m glad to hear about your experience. There’s lots to offer as well in heritage and culture!
That is true!! Of course crime happens anywhere, but that's not the first, 2nd or 3rd thing I'd describe Soweto as. It's relative, but Soweto is a vibe and very culturally rich and diverse. You can check out other 'affluent' parts of Soweto that was originally for the elite/educated blacks as they still had to reside with other black people. Suburbs were only for other races. Places like Pimville, Dube, Rockville...
True, sometimes I feel like the crime issue is blown out of proportion....residents of these areas have a communal thing amongst them and look out for one another.
Same here , a former resident of Zola north soweto.
Soweto is one of the best tourist attractions in world
I'm a South African but I've never been to Soweto only watch videos , up to so far Soweto is best township in South Africa.
Some really nice homes and I see there’s nice culture too.
Thanks for watching.
@Sarah-M710 Haibo🙆🏽♀️
Lol say Johannesburg not South Africa😂
I have been traveling in and out of Soweto since 1985 and always enjoyed my visits, and still do.
Glad you enjoy the visits! Much love
When I was in 9jeria Banana Island was shown breath taking mansions that were built by SA contractors, the owners flew them to Nigeria to build for them, I was impressed.
It also happens in the UK...SA has one of the best builders in the world. I've always said in SA you can pick up a premium builder by the side of the road...
They need to come to Canada too!!!
Zimbabwe too hv same rules nd they too hv good proffesional builders. Surveyors, plumbers etc. Tere are mansions there built to perfection. Architecture is drawn by proffesional architects who than get plan passed b4 one builds than surveyors inspect stage by stage from foundations to finish.
@tombimashri8149 like you will never let sa shine
South Africa 🇿🇦 is beautiful 🥰
Those home homes r 100% own no loans.
The cherry on top, no mortgage. Most are cash built. No bond, no monthly repayments.
Im from Soweto it was notorious 30 years ago. trust me its awesome I meaN AWESOME
True it's so awesome, even some rich people don't want to move to the suburbs, they prefer the vibe, togetherness and communal lifestyle in the township. We look out for each other😜
Notorious how?
@@NathanZar Inkatha vs everyone e ndofaya ama kabasa ama comrades meadowlands zone 1. now Soweto its a suburb
You need to check Limpopo Houses is South Africa Rural u gonner be more surprised
Its not a competition. We are talking about Soweto.
Deepkloof Extension in Soweto was built during the Apartheid era, with the initial phases constructed in the early 1980s. The development continued post-Apartheid, with the final phases completed in the mid to late 1990s
Your soul is just South African, love you too bro

The Home of Pretty and Mashudu Shandukani 🙏in venda South Africa
You can checkout mansions in Limpopo, South Africa.. we've been opressed and segregated from the economy for generations but im telling you black people are building..
I will check them out 🔥👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾 thank you 🙏🏾 for the suggestion
South Africa has most beautiful houses than Dubai and most other countries
I grew up in Soweto there is nothing Notorius about Soweto im curretly hold 3 degrees i studied in Soweto up until high school after went to study in CApe Town had a beuatiful childhood currently an Attorney .Soweto has made me who i am
I meant it in a cool/iconic way. Should’ve used the word iconic instead. But much love you and your career 🙏🏾 inspiration
@@BANGA2TIMEZ Lol he misunderstood the word notorious in the way you meant it, but I a South African aswell understood you clearly brother. Soweto does also have a branch of the University of Johannesburg there aswell and it's a good University just to add.
@@abongiledlova477I actually find the area quite inspirational. Our slang we use notorious for things we look up to/inspired by. That’s why I slipped up. But again I’m sorry
@@BANGA2TIMEZ I know, I noticed in the video that you found it inspirational and you did not slip up because that your slang and I understood it, but the other person here who made the comment had a misunderstanding. Be blessed brother, don't worry about it. Come back to South Africa sometime when you can.
THE DIFFERENCE IS THAT IN SOUTH AFRICA SOWETO EE BUILD WITH PROPER BRICKS AND CEMENT .THE HOUSES ARE STRONG AND CAN STAND THE TEST OF TIME.
Diepkloof is actually safe during the day, however there's alot of crime during the night, especially now in winter, also for many people going to work early in the morning there's patrollers who accompany them to taxi's for their safety.
Soweto is not as crime ridden as the media make it out to be, for example we are so friendly, I know that since you have a decent following on RUclips, Trust me if you would announce that you are coming to visit us, you will have tons of invites to welcome you to their homes during your visit. Try it next time you visit. Mind you these homes were built around . That brown house you were commenting about 20:51/20:56, there a number of homes that have same look all over Soweto a number of them were designed and built by the same Architect/designer. The ones I know are in Protea North, one in Pimville (not far from Konka), there's on in Rockville(next to Thokoza park), many more.
Kasi means the hood yes.
Yes. Just to add. It comes from Location which is Lokasie in Afrikaans, shortened to "kasie"/"kasi".
@@MfezekoMatshoba Thank for that, the Afrikaans language has a lot of influence in South Africa I see.
@@abongiledlova477 Yep. Especially in slang/tsotsi taal
Man this whole place is fairly safe if you listened to your parents and avoid the proper dodgy spots.
Never experienced crime in Soweto
Bra playing some nice pianos there🎉🎉🎉😊😊new member just subscribed loving the content🎉
🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶Commenting because its winter in South Africa and I am from SOWETO
I grew up at phase 2 DK but we've since moved to the burbs
I'm glad this has been profiled,I'm from Soweto and I was born in Soweto been there my whole life,as much as all the negative has been said about our neighborhood I'm glad the outside world can see the good hidden side, truth is there's a lot of multimillionaires coming from Soweto and very influential people coming there,we've had 3 Presidents in Soweto,Nelson Mandela,Cyril Ramaphosa and Kgalema Motlhante and many big influential politicians, let's not even go to the music part of Soweto, world class musicians and music producers, film makers and trend setters,Soweto is the place to be,my beloved Soweto,Mama Winnie Mandela is from there,Mama Mirriam Makeba stayed there before moving abroad❤
This is why I consider Soweto one of the most Iconic places to exist on this earth! Much love to you. Thank you for sharing
Proudly 🇿🇦
To think this is just our lower middle class. The uppper middle class is in the suburbs in Sandton, Rosebank and all these other areas while the rich are in Waterfall estate and similar locations. If you were in any other country in Africa this would be viewd as a rich neighborhood while in SA its not even the upper middle class. We have come far as a country to build up a middle class that we can now even devide. The upper middle class pays for location and more expensive things but both the upper and lower middle class in SA are expoesed to everything the middle class in the US is expised to. Cable TV, expensive cars, credit, etc. The difference between SA and other African countries is thst the government builds houses for the poor that's why we have a very small homelessness culture.
But a lot of squatter camps
@@brideofchrist8295still low rate of squatter camps…around 12%. Majoirty of South Africans live in formal housing, close to 90% of residential structures are formal houses with sanitation, electricity and proper road infrastructure
@@thandisilec835 during apartheid there weren't so many squatter camps, this is bad, they say Gauteng alone has over 300 squatter camps, that's preposterous.

Ekasi our township
Cool 😎!
That woman who was going through the history of Soweto is lying. Those big yards were there during apartheid. If anything, anyone knows that where the new government went wrong, is allocating stands so small that you can hear your neighbour sneezing. Many of those mansions you saw in Diepkloof were initially small houses in big yards. So the owners renovated them. Some of those beautiful houses were built during apartheid. Diepkloof was always a suburb for the wealthy. In fact many townships have areas that were historically for the rich. The Western media would not show any of those beautiful areas in Africa because they have their agenda. As for the woman who was narratoring this is in this video is also doing us an injustice by lying.
🇿🇦 my country ❤
KASI... the hood of Soweto which means
SOUTH WEST TOWNSHIP by the way
Some people don't like moving out of the ghetto
You must pay us a visit when you got the finances and the time to. The country's beauty will blow your mind.
