No scrapped prior to privatisation in 1995. And we know how that ended up. As an Engineering graduate in 1990 British Rail Engineering was considered a great place to work with lots of R&D
Lookouts and train horns. Quite embarrassing really. We invented this life saving equipment, but now still rely on the same safety practices that were used a hundred years ago. And this from the country that invented bloody railways.
@@osiantownsendjones2833 Too bad! Y'all even imported one of us smart Americans, I saw in the video, and that didn't pan out. I guess the trackside setups were too pricey, but I feel like there should have been some way.
@@osiantownsendjones2833 A bit, I couldn't resist. But actually trying to bant about trains is a losing battle for us, ha. We don't exactly have glistening public transit.
@@yabbaguy Yeah my heart goes out to you poor bastards not being able to ride trains if your not crew. Especially sad when you look at what you lot had in the past as well. We moan about Beeching and Marples, and while they definitely took a lot from us, you got it way worse.
That thing just sounds so cute when making the non-alarm noises
A real shame this system never got beyond the prototype stage. It looks really good. British Railways R&D had some very good ideas.
Bet in 99 percent of cases railway was there before the houses
Did this ever actually go beyond the prototype stage?

Thanks for the information
What is the current trackside safety system of choice?

@@yabbaguy Is that a bit of transatlantic banter I see there? Very good! For a yank anyway...
