The Shield was great, but the cable to the display broke very quickly, and I couldn't find a replacement. Sad story.
Half life 2 and Portal were awesome on it!
for me the best thing about the nvidia shield is of course that i can use moonlight to stream pc games from my pc to my vita. that's such a cool feature and only possible because of shield functions in the geforce software. in others words it made having a hacked vita even more awesome than it already is. played steam games portable long before the steamdeck. like valfaris, which was promised to come out on vita, but then didn't. so i purchased it on sale and played it through moonlight. in your face, big sugar! cool metal outro, comrade. yeah! 🤟

I had one of these a decade ago. It was pretty amazing and ahead of it’s time. It could kinda run Half Life 2 but it lagged pretty bad. It was great for emulation though.

Great video. I bought the Shield portable and Shield tablet with controller on launch. I purchased Half- life 2 and Portal back then on the playstore and they run perfectly on both. Recently I bought a few more shield portables and a K1 shield tablet strictly for emulation. Keep up the great content. Happy to see some NVIDIA Shield love.

Onetime in 2nd grade I fell asleep in class, and I dreamed that I was playing shadowgun.
I own a shield tablet, I made the mistake of updating the Android version so when the battery is full the performance is poor, but when the battery hits 85% it works perfectly, use it for retro games such as GB, PS1, MD etc but lately I read there and watch youtube it's the perfect size for ebook reading
Poor performance at 100% battery is pretty weird

I always wanted one of these back in the day, but I ended up with a 3DS. I think I made the right choice.

Bought mine off of Craigslist like 10 years ago... I was impressed by everything (screen, speakers, controls). Underrated gem of a handheld

The crazy thing about this and the shield tv at the time was that there were in house ports of some wii games
I am a big fan of mount e blade, I remember seeing it on nvidia shield and thinking "WOW"

I remember Swifty (streamer) who played World of Warcraft with this one. I personaly had Nvidia Shield K1. Great tablet at that time, played Trine on it.

Odin 2 hurts my hands too much reaching for the right stick
And steam deck is huge
This could fit x86 even and has room for touchpads like a steam deck/controller
plus it protects itself, doesn’t need a separate case, and it sits up on a table for youtube, good for travel
micro usb is gross but understandable
GBA SP 4/3 clamp shell form factor is sadly underrated...now about the screen can it support direct light exposure like the SP & NDS FAT which is nice 😎 ?
This with updated chip would be amazing same as xperia play
Some pre-installed apps on Android update in the background. Google Play started working because of that probably. Especially when device hasn't been used in a long time, it would have to update a lot of stuff at once. Trying to launch it again and again will only delay the update. And you need the latest version (available for your system) to actually use it. So if it suddenly started working on its own after some time, that's probably why.
Yea I thought about something similar but that geforce now app had also very weird behavior and those updates cant take few days..
For those that have this device like myself. Sd card needs to be formated a certain way for it to work.
Moonlight helps any game run unofficially on whatever portable so the gta definite trilogy modded on PC and even GTA 4 complete edition is playable as long as the gaming rig is doing most of the lifting

Been playing through the latest GTA SA on my tablet using a slightly difficult left stick on a 3rd party ps4 controller
I remember there is a tomb raider 2013 port for this device.
I think that's for the android tv version with better chip
Never knew this was a portable thing, always knew it existed but the version that looks like a tv box or mini pc.
Pretty sure this was the coolest shit back when it came out.

I had one and loved it. I loved the controller, felt like real controller. I played it non stop for years. I wished they had made a successor. Then I got a steam deck and that feels like the successor to the Nvidia shield. So I ended up selling the Nvidia shield.
There will be no shield 2 ever produced. Nvidia stated they only made the handheld to show off what its tegra chip could do. The goal for Nvidia was to sell the chip to a gaming company. When Nintendo used the chip Nvidia agreed not to produce a competing gaming device.

Old games like portal and hl2 should work but I couldn't make them run
4:27 is widescreen hack still enabled? That might be why
I ve disabled it and it was same. Tried mess with few settings but no difference
Nvidia need to pull their finger out and make a new, high-end, Shield 2. Switch sold 150M. id love to see what a non-budget device could do in 2024.
They don't need to, as far as their concerned the switch is a shield 2 given it runs their chips

Hate that Play Store issue, happens with any old android device. It'll run it's bundled version of the app store, then after updates are downloaded, it'll become inaccessible until it updates again.
It is pretty annoying. But I mean I have sideloaded most of everything anyway
@@ZealousChuck easier from experience to just have the APKs ready on the SD card and forgo the app store altogether

@@ZealousChuck Каких огранечений? Игры, мультимедия, браузер, эмуляторы всё прекрасно работает. Даже можно вывести к телевизору. Единственное нет камеры и микрофона.

Forgotten, no. This thing was awesome during a time when there wasn't many devices like it. It always seemed to lose one screw on the bottom though.
