for me the best thing about the nvidia shield is of course that i can use moonlight to stream pc games from my pc to my vita. that's such a cool feature and only possible because of shield functions in the geforce software. in others words it made having a hacked vita even more awesome than it already is. played steam games portable long before the steamdeck. like valfaris, which was promised to come out on vita, but then didn't. so i purchased it on sale and played it through moonlight. in your face, big sugar! cool metal outro, comrade. yeah! 🤟
I had one of these a decade ago. It was pretty amazing and ahead of it’s time. It could kinda run Half Life 2 but it lagged pretty bad. It was great for emulation though.
Great video. I bought the Shield portable and Shield tablet with controller on launch. I purchased Half- life 2 and Portal back then on the playstore and they run perfectly on both. Recently I bought a few more shield portables and a K1 shield tablet strictly for emulation. Keep up the great content. Happy to see some NVIDIA Shield love.
I own a shield tablet, I made the mistake of updating the Android version so when the battery is full the performance is poor, but when the battery hits 85% it works perfectly, use it for retro games such as GB, PS1, MD etc but lately I read there and watch youtube it's the perfect size for ebook reading
I remember Swifty (streamer) who played World of Warcraft with this one. I personaly had Nvidia Shield K1. Great tablet at that time, played Trine on it.
this with a modern day arm chip would be amazing Odin 2 hurts my hands too much reaching for the right stick And steam deck is huge This could fit x86 even and has room for touchpads like a steam deck/controller
GBA SP 4/3 clamp shell form factor is sadly underrated...now about the screen can it support direct light exposure like the SP & NDS FAT which is nice 😎 ?
Some pre-installed apps on Android update in the background. Google Play started working because of that probably. Especially when device hasn't been used in a long time, it would have to update a lot of stuff at once. Trying to launch it again and again will only delay the update. And you need the latest version (available for your system) to actually use it. So if it suddenly started working on its own after some time, that's probably why.

I got one 2 weeks ago in good condition for like 40$. But when I try to sign into Google it tells me to add phone number or skip and I get stuck there and can't sign in so I haven't gotten to use it :/
Moonlight helps any game run unofficially on whatever portable so the gta definite trilogy modded on PC and even GTA 4 complete edition is playable as long as the gaming rig is doing most of the lifting
Hate that Play Store issue, happens with any old android device. It'll run it's bundled version of the app store, then after updates are downloaded, it'll become inaccessible until it updates again.

Then I got a steam deck and that feels like the successor to the Nvidia shield. So I ended up selling the Nvidia shield. There will be no shield 2 ever produced. Nvidia stated they only made the handheld to show off what its tegra chip could do. The goal for Nvidia was to sell the chip to a gaming company. When Nintendo used the chip Nvidia agreed not to produce a competing gaming device.
Portal and half life 2 are only compatible with android 4 because i tried to install them on mine and i just find out that the games requires android 4 as newer android version and i updated my shield portable so i just buy portal on my switch and played half life 2 on my og xbox 🤷🏾♂️

The Shield was great, but the cable to the display broke very quickly, and I couldn't find a replacement. Sad story.

Bought mine off of Craigslist like 10 years ago... I was impressed by everything (screen, speakers, controls). Underrated gem of a handheld

The crazy thing about this and the shield tv at the time was that there were in house ports of some wii games

you should see how the ship of harkinian (with the 3ds graphics experience) runs if you can get it booted up

Forgotten, no. This thing was awesome during a time when there wasn't many devices like it. It always seemed to lose one screw on the bottom though.
