Music apps can be great if they keep you interested in playing, but if you’re serious about improving as much as possible I would really recommend that people just teach themselves on RUclips or, if possible, get a teacher. I’ve been playing for close to 11-12 years now and I’ve had friends trying to learn through these sorts of apps, but they only take you so far. When I told them to just teach themselves all the basic chords, positions/posture and just play basic songs/melodies of songs they like off of RUclips I could easily see them progressing 10 times faster. I was taught by a teacher for the first year or so before opting to just teach myself as I began to get motivated to play instead of it being like work, allowing me to learn much faster. It can be daunting to start an instrument because it’s really hard to know where to start, so here’s my best advice if you’re starting out: Learn the basic chords (c, a, d, g, e + am & em), learn some basic songs in your skill range (chord ones as well as basic melody ones) and then just slowly ramp up the difficulty by playing songs a little bit out of your current skill level, brute forcing your way through them until you can play them. Eventually this will get you into songs requiring bar chords, playing chords and melodies at the same time (finger-style), picking patterns, hammer ons, pull offs, sliding, theory (if you’re interested), different genres with more techniques (classical, jazz, rumba) and so on. Just play songs that you like and stay motivated, making sure you’re pushing yourself with every song you learn.
Cheers Pepperoni! Great comment 🤙 I totally agree, the best thing most apps do is possibly keep you interested. These days I use Justin Guitar which is far superior to others I’ve used, as I can’t get a teacher where I live ☺️🤙 merry Christmas to ya, awesome work
@@dan.prosser I’ve been using it for a bit and I’m just close to throwing my guitar through the window since sometimes it doesn’t even pick up the chords so I’d say teacher would be better
Love what you have to say, man. Been trying to motivate me for years now and I think I finally will start playing because of what you said. Thanks a lot, man.
I’ve started learning guitar by using the app and Idk where I should start or what to do. I really want to be able to play the guitar and so I’m super motivated it’s just the fact that I’m not sure where to look. Is there any other apps or anything that anyone recommends because I don’t think paying that much for the one I am is worth it.
It's really brave of you to share this in front of potentially millions of people as you are going through the learning process. Who knows those who laugh at your performance now might buy tickets at your huge concert years from now! Everyone had to start somewhere but most of us musicians learned it from behind closed doors because we were not brave enough to show our mistakes.
Simply guitar needs to throw some sort of challenge at people ithe lessons and songs are way to easy even if you don't have the "musical gift" it's still way toooo easy bro
A good RUclips channel for song tutorials is guitar zero to hero. His tab layout is beautiful and he has a second channel where he goes in depth on how to play the song. Some of the tutorials are probably on the tougher side though, especially for a beginner like yourself. I’d still check him out though.
When I first started back in March, I had used this app to first start as well, however! I’m telling you you should get a guitar teacher or just teach yourself WITHOUT an app. It’s been 7 months since I’ve started and the progress of teaching yourself is much more enjoyable and it is also quicker. MY TIP: Try to memorise where to put your fingers for chord into the finest details. That’s how you’ll actually learn how to play a song without any intervals
Cheers Anime 🤙 I appreciate the advice, the problem is I live in a remote part of Australia and am flat out with my life and other hobbies! An app suits my lifestyle perfectly 😊🤙
Simply Guitar is an outstanding application. I learned chords, improved my "ear", and most importantly...held my guitar. Thank you, Simply Guitar. You're awesome.
Man just keep going, I'm learning too and I've been playing about 6 months. Justinguitar has a beginners course on RUclips that's absolutely wonderful. I've just been going over the first 15 or so episodes until I can get sufficiently good with the three chords and changing between them. The most difficult thing for me is keeping my hand placement and posture correct, my thumb always wants to go around the guitar neck instead of on the back. Anyways, good luck. It's great to see someone else who isn't very good yet but is trying. It's honestly inspiring.
Honestly it just sounds like to me you are playing one string I hear no music into it and I'm not saying it's you I feel like simply guitar is a waste of money or is it because it's slow
I love your determination, I just started learning piano from yousician and also tried simply piano... both are great apps with their own unique ways... one day will pick up guitar as well... great job!!
Totally agree with other comments about the benefits of lessons vs. music playing apps. Find a structured course on youtube with tutorial videos and suggested practice routine. Follow the videos in the intended order, and keep practicing consistently (almost) every day and the results will speak for themselves. Try not to have negative thoughts, everyone sucks at first, but with regular practice you improve a little bit each day. Also don't compare yourself to others! Enjoy the journey, your journey. That said, song apps are a good way to practice songs. I tried for about 6 weeks or so of my learning journey just scrounging around online for chords or tabs, or in some cases attempting to transcribe or watching song tutorials, and it was a slow, inconsistent, and frustrating experience. Once I started using a song app to complement my practice routine it really helped me with fluidity and timing, plus saved a bunch of time researching.

All i do is read tabs and play random metal songs and that is going on.
Why are the cords backwards? Strings are at the top instead of the bottom when you lay lower strings? Was this an option?
Good point 🤔🤔🤔 Doesn’t really make sense does it? There may be an option to change, but this was the default 🤙
i just got an ad for yousician while watching this
Which would you rather choose mate? Yousician or SimplyGuitar?
Between those two, I think I much prefer Yousician! But my favourite app/teacher so far has been Justin Guitar 😁🤙 good luck mate
@@dan.prosser is justin guitar free? and would it be good for beginners? anyway thanks bro
Keep learning man you’ll get great one day!!!!
Cheers Crunchuhh 😭😭🤙
got the beginner, to the intermediate ect simply guitar on the beginning of the video 💀
😂😂😂
Hi,
I want to learn to play The guitar,
do you think I should buy this app?
I heard that this app is not really gonna give you a good start or something like that...
What do you think?
Hey Gabby! I reckon you’ve gotta go Justin Guitar if you’re using an app. Yousician and Simply Guitar were super fun, but not the best start if you know you enjoy guitar 🤙 good luck ! I’ve got some other vids on Justin Guitar :)
Thanks, I downloaded SimplyGuitar guitar, I’m using it for 12 days now, and I already know 7 chords! Incredible app, thanks for uploadong this video.🤗✨
What do you think? Is SimplyGuitar good?
I think it’s fine, I much prefer Justin Guitar these days though! 😁🤙
Love from kerala❤🌸
🥰🥰🥰
@@dan.prosser ☺☺
Thx you have inspired me to play guitar when u did Yousician is Yousician worth it and is it free
😭 that’s so nice, good to hear it 🤙 lots of different ways to do it, like a lot of the people in the comments have said. If you’re looking to do it for free and without leaving the house, I highly recommend Yousician 🤙 it’s not perfect, but not all of us are looking for perfection in our hobbies 🤙
@@dan.prosser thank you for the reply I will try it out and let you know also my friend wants to learn guitar soon so we are learning together while watching u thanks so much see ya ✌🏻
Did you have any trouble doing the string 1 lesson because i am i played the string 3 times but it dosen't register it
I found with a lot of these apps, that if I wasn’t wearing my headphones with a mic on it, then it wouldn’t always pick up the string
@@dan.prosser oh ok thank you ill try that
I use simply guitar for the fun side of it but for more serious stuff I use guitar tricks and Justin free stuff
I'm absolutely in love with Justin Guitar, it's helped me the most. I just downloaded the Ultimate Guitar app for tabs as well, which seems really impressive. Cheers Brunoky!
What if I do the 7 day free trial but do everything on that 7 days?
Then you have beaten the system, and saved money 😂🤙 you got this
Great man you helped me thank you
Thanks Yonathan 🙌
I was thinking about having a look until I saw the price so expensive
I am 8 and I am on chord essentials 1
Awesome Namita! 🤯
I am not Namita but I am her son
Which do you think is better simply guitar or youician?
That's great mann
Cheers Akshat 😭🤙

Greetings from Australia! 🇦🇺 Thanks so much for the kind comment 😭 Good luck on your guitar adventure, I’m with ya 🤙
hope your picking away now❤️🔥
For some reason I didn't have to pay???! It's not eating my money without me knowing right?
🤯🤯🤯 Wow! And I’m not sure 😅 I hope not
@@dan.prosser I'm very confused 😂
Is it actually possible to learn guitar with it? Is it worth paying for? And which is better this or yousician?
I prefer Yousician, but I reckon the best app I’ve found to learn guitar is Justin Guitar! 😁🤙
@@dan.prosser I’m a total beginner can any of Justin guitar or any of these apps actually make me an expert?
Also TYSM for replying we need more creators like you!
It an Israeli startup by joy tune
Cool! 😳🤙
I just got a simply guitar ad
😂😂😂
This app can't pick any thing played on low E. No matter how loud ur set up is. I was told to play E F3 I accidentally scratched the E cord when I sneezed and some how E Fs 123 all picked up off of one open scratch to the cord🤦🏾♂️
Thanks now i know that the app is good
Thanks Shrija! Good luck ☺️🤙
How many hours did you play guitar every fay eğen using this app?
0.2 hours a day 😂 just in my spare time
You can do it
Thanks Luanne!!
I literally got a simply guitar when i saw this
