  • What is Kurukshetra? | Where is Kurukshetra | Why is it so Important?
Kurukshetra is a city in the north Indian state of Haryana. It's known as the setting of the Hindu epic poem the "Mahabharata." The text's great battle is depicted in a large diorama at the Kurukshetra Panorama and Science Centre. West of the city, the town of Jyotisar is a pilgrimage site where, according to the "Mahabharata," the sacred "Bhagavad Gita" scripture was first delivered.
    Krishna translation:
The reason for gathering every one of you is that you all should know that this place is extremely holy (or pure) place. When Lord Parashurama* slew the sinners on this ground, then here five rivers of blood were formed. This place is known by the name Samanta - Panchaka. At the north of this place the river Sarasvati flows, and in the south Drishadvati river. The area situated in between these two rivers is blessed by the ancestors of Lord Parashurama. At this place, Dharma will be established. Lord Indra had given a boon to King Kuru, that whoever is martyred at this place will get a place in the Heaven. For your Dharma Yudh, this Dharmashetra is the best suited.
*Parashurama (Sanskrit: परशुराम, IAST: Paraśurāma, lit. Rama with an axe) is the sixth avatar of Vishnu in Hinduism, and he is one of the Chiranjeevi who will appear at the end of the Kali-yuga to be the guru of Vishnu's tenth and last avatar Kalki.
