I didn't know the Spectrum could display so many colours! That first test was nuts. Triggers broom is such a classic analogy that applies time and time again.
I think it's always worth fixing them if it's viable. When you have 50% of the boards traces as bodge wires then I think it's probably not worth it. Although it is always impressive to see people get things working against these odds (such as GadgetUK with some of his big box Amiga repairs). I personally would like to see more mods, a bit more adventure with these things. Custom cases, non standard keyboards and things being more personal. It's great to preserve things as they were meant to be, but it some ways it's just another Spectrum or Amiga or whatever, no matter how much effort went into the repair. something a bit different and more personal is what I'd like to see more of. Of course, that's going to come with a lot of backlash and complaining 🙂I mean, you can't even drill a hole in the back of an Amiga to put a toggle switch anymore without upsetting someone 😆
