- Time Consuming Ep #12:
Snarky Puppy is an American instrumental band that burst into the global awareness a few years back.
Their use of polyrhythms is some times subtle, but these two examples are very in your face, and they're epic.

From Meshugah, to Tool, to Snarky Puppy, I fucking love this channel
Yeah same. I wanna sleep but it just keeps recommending more vids and im like: Shit, he does that too?
Man, I don't usually comment on RUclips videos but I wanted you to know how much your efforts are appreciated! Great work!
I appreciate that! Thanks a lot man.
Fun Fact about the drummer Larnell Lewis on this record: he learned all the songs on his flight from america to the netherlands. The band just rehearsed without his drums and after 2-3 songs of soundcheck they recorded the whole thing... crazy dude
Houderebäseler would approve of this fact ;)
@@NoxremOfficial he absolutely would xD
Shofukan is probably my favorite Snarky Puppy tune.
Still waiting for the follow up. This is one of my favourite videos on RUclips, and it helped me teach this song to a student.
I have been waiting for this channel for years. Snarky, tool, meshuggah... They're the best bands in the world.
Mate your channel is a gold mine! I'm so glad I stumbled across it!
Oh thanks man!
Thank you! I've listened to this song so many times and never managed to quite nail down how that particular rhythm worked - it just goes by so fast. Snarky Puppy make it sound so easy 😂
New favorite channel. Very deep analysis but easy to understand! And I love that you making everything by hand
Welcome aboard!
That was brilliant and so much fun as well. Thanks!
Very good
Thanks!
Dude your channel deserves so much more love, this video is genius!!
Great video ! You should take a look at Car Bomb ; their entire discography is based on avoiding regular rhythms. The way they dilate time and use the oddest groupings is really awesome and deserve a deep dive I reckon. Some tracks of particular interest could be Constant Sleep, Nonagon, Scattered Sprites, Dissect Yourself - but really everything they've ever done is interesting in this aspect.
ohhh man, thanks for narrowing it down hahaha
I knew I need to do a car bomb one, but didn't even know where to start!
@@YogevGabay Personally Constant Sleep is my favourite but it's already been analyzed a bunch on RUclips (see for example the video from The Art of Drumming). If I had to pick one, I think it should be Nonagon, as it is the most pattern-y one, with a lot of variation being applied on one "regular" (airquotes) backbone riff most of the time.
This has haunted me for years, and you demystified it. You are awesome. Liked & subbed!
Your the best man, I bring everyone that will listen here
Thanks !!!

I love how in the middle section of the song Larnell Lewis plays in 5 to line up with the riff and it totally changes the character

Just want to thank you as well for all the time you put into making these instructional and analysis videos! Ever since I saw the Tigran drum covers, I knew I had to subscribe and keep an ear out for more content from you. 💯 I'm a guitarist, practicing pianist, and producer and these videos are assisting me greatly with my understanding of rhythm.
Oh man, thanks a lot!
Happy to hear i've managed to cross the drummers line and reach other musicians as well! happy you like these

Glad you like them!
Superbe!
Keif as usual! 🤘
I really appreciate the analysis. Can’t help thinking that it would be clearer written out on a stave rather than post it notes tho! Just imho. 🙏✌️
Bruh, this section is beating my ass since the album came out
Ohhhhhh and is it more clear now?
@@YogevGabay Yeah, at least I can count it bit better now. Awesome content bro, you earned yourself a subscriber
Is it easy for you to spot these polyrhytms? I've listened to "We Like it Here" dozens of times and had no clue about the complexity of that part in What About Me. PS. Must be odd to talk about What About Me without mentioning Larnell Lewis's drumming.
at this point yeah, I hear them pretty quickly. Or at least I can spot them quickly. It takes me time to analyze them though, but I've got better at it the more I do it!
And man, the drumming on this album is just a different level man. He's so good it's not even funny.
