@@penelopehammerton2907 Thank you, Penelope, I pant on enjoying every step. Yes, my little cottage is a favorite retreat. Right now I have my painting lessons set up in it.
I feel hour pain. We are in upper midwest and gophers were terrible for my garden. I lost a small 2 YO apple tree, a huge weigela, and they damaged some dappled willow by girdling them. They even ate 25 of my garlic. We lost so many cone flowers and all of our knock out roses.
Oh no! They are voracious little rascals. Yes, I am going to have to put everything into cages, pots or in protected raised beds. They have been out of control for miles around here. What I would give for a hungry gopher snake to set up residence here!
Now that I have left my entire life in California and now residing in my new home here in southern Indiana, I’m wondering about growing New Dawn. I’ve tried the trusty Iceberg; climbing and shrub. Black spot city here with that one. Back home in California, I did plant over 160 bare root roses at one time. They’re still there. Lol Climbing Edens were easy to grow and are beautiful! I just have never tried New Dawn as of yet. Would love to though. Also, here I have ground pests too: moles. 😩
I am sure it is the humidity there that makes the black spot such a problem. I was just reading on using a milk spray for black spot. It is 2 parts water to 1 part milk sprayed on them weekly is supposed to help. It is worth a shot. Here is where I read it: www.agardenforthehouse.com/got-black-spot-get-milk/
I just read recently that if you spread bloodmeal on the ground around ypur plant, it will deter gophers. I have an issue with critters digging holes in my large potted roses. I just bought some and hopefully it will work!🫰
Cant wait. Think it will look awesome
I know I am going to have a lot of fun with it!
You have a great planting plan for Rose Alley. What a lovely Summerhouse/Studio you have. That area is going to look so pretty.
