Jack’s Rake is a challenge not for the faint hearted! It is dangerous due to its exposure with the possibility of a long fall in several places. Once committed the climb back down is equally as hard as the climb to the summit. A place to take serious care and caution and I wouldn’t advise doing it with a dog as risks will increase for you both. It is an epic route and in good dry conditions with some solid scrambling experience, an amazing challenge.

Amazing. This is only possible with a very well trained dog. As a collie owner, Blue is on another level. He instantly reacts to your commands and without that it wouldn’t be possible. It’s very impressive.

Wow..just wow! Blue the mountain climbing wonder dog. Can see how much he loves it. And like you say he is fearless but I think that is just showing the trust he has in your abilities to. Scary to watch but at the same time mind-blowingly impressive.

Oh my lord Blue's face when you put the pan on the mat. I could see the internal dialogue:
"Oh yeah food time... oh no, maybe water? oh right no he's just showing the camera the water thing... wait a pan? I'm eating from the pan? Why's it on your knee? wait.... that's MY plate, why are YOU eating it????!!!?!?" 🤣🤣
What a great adventure. It's awesome to watch you doing the things you do, and managing to do it with Blue, and with a smile on your face. Amazing.
Oh, and FYI the "glove loops" on the jacket (and the loop on the back of your neck) are used to attach it to a compatible waterproof shell so when you pull your arms out they stay inside the shell 😉

Took me back 30+ years to when I did the Rake with some army mates. So familiar!
We met some ill-equipped and ill-prepared civies trying to come down it! One was cragfast on the main pitch
Luckily, we managed to persuade them up was the only achievable route for them, and with the aid of the trusty rope we always had stowed,got them through the tricky bits.

What an epic adventure. I used to think Jack's Rake was easy, climbing through a gully, but it's the exposed parts and steep climbs which are dangerous. You both earned your meal that night, and thanks for this essential view.

I walked down Stickle Ghyll - after coming up from Easedale Tarn - whilst Mountain Rescue was running up with all their kit and a chopper hovering up above..... . No I would definitely never scramble up Jack's Rake. Vertigo kicked in again pulling at my feet just watching.

I love how you command Blue and how he listens to every command straight away, our family mutt, I can tell him to sniff, because that's all he does, and anything else he things he should get a treat for, the furthest I have took him in the hills so far is 8 miles then he is shattered
The man knows what is going on, it’s very hard, but he will take care of blue, now for blue, yes he’s a dog but he’s a smart dog and loves and trusts the man, they love each other, so that’s why all this works, amazing man, amazing dog 🥰🥰🥰
Wow, that was a thrill watching you and Blue mountaineering the bejabbers out of those rocks! I have had an experience watching people be very irresponsible with their dog in one of our parks, it is wonderful to see a dog so comfortable in the terrain and part of a good team!

Wow - Blue is amazing, what an epic scramble.
Wow, what an epic rollercoaster of a ride, I felt almost a sense of shame and guilt watching this unfold from the safety and comfort of my armchair, Blue definitely has a sense of unique doggy telepathy to understand the rules of the mountain and what is required to work as a team, at certain traverses it was almost like Blue was showing you the safest way up the rake. I totally loved this one as we did Jacks rake around 10 years ago and I just could not imagine having the responsibility of a dog at the same time as the scrambling especially as I remember once you start climbing up you cannot change your mind half way up and decide to go down as it becomes a far more perilous challenge, akin to cat / tree theory. The sense of elation when arriving at the top is a feeling I wont forget and we all said we would do it again in a heartbeat. Cap tipped and doffed in your direction for this adventure. Ps, superb drone work,....spectacular.

Blue, bless him, he's a dog n a half! A heart like a horse, in fact he's all heart. When you have made that kind of connection with your dog, his nobility love and loyalty shine through. All dogs are happiest when they have a job, and Blue's self appointed job is to be your companion in every adventure he can share with you. Take care of him boy, he's golden through n through and worth every moment of the time you spend together, and worth every ounce of care and love you can give him.

Does Bluey ever show any signs of fear or doubt? He seems so confident, but I think that's because he trusts you. This is incredible to watch. We scrambled up there a few years ago and found it difficult, especially while carrying our camping gear. Great to see it from these perspectives. Thanks for sharing Al
I think the main thing with a dog (and humans) is to be calm yourself. Luckily it’s my nature to keep calm so Blue feeds off that. He’s obviously well practiced at mountain adventure but also our bond and experience together helps massively. Well done for making it up the Rake. It’s definitely a tough one.

Awesome video Al 👍 I did Jake's rake 17 years ago with my three boys, an epic day! Just had a day pack though, nice and dry conditions and I left my chocolate lab at home. And I certainly didn't carry a full steak diner and beers! 😂 Blue is fantastic, you can tell that he loves every minute of it. You are certainly giving him the best life 😊 I took my dog on all of my ventures into the fells but there was no way she could have done that, the only other one that I left her behind was sharp edge. Looking forward to your next video, I'm running out of ones to watch on your channel by the way 😁

I’d suggest the Ruffwear Doubleback Harness! I’ve used it with my dog in the past on scrambles and climbing! Always nice to have a backup for redundancy, and you can never be too safe! Cheers to another great video to both of y’all and congratulations!

Hiya. After watching the terrifying Ben Nevis climb which gave me sweaty palms, I watched Jacks Rake, OMG this was next level. I can’t stop seeing the image of Blue clinging onto the rock as you pushed him up. Wonder dog ❤ and master.

Classic. Well executed mission there sir! I'd have found it hard not to have a rope on him more, but then there'd be snagging issues. Maybe a front/chest attachment point would allow you to provide augment the pawwheeldrive from above.

Another amazing video Al and the way you and Blue tackle Jakes Rake was awe inspiring. The Langdales is one of my favourite places in the Lakes and the way you captured Pavey Ark with the drone footage, along with that music, gave me goose bumps Al 👍

Class Bushman. I went up here once but didn't do the scramble because i was with Em who wasn't keen on it. Rightly so too because when we recently went to Sharp Edge she had to turn around so Jacks Rake will have been too much also!

Top adventure, that is one to be put on my bucket list. Blue done well, so did you climbing with one hand recording. One of my favourite videos you have done so far. Keep them coming. It was a shame the weather came in but perfect spot for the tent.

Good on you and Blue for scaling them ledges, but without sounding repetitive the views were worth the risks and effort, the drone footage and the water below looked spectacular👌. (But risks that 99% of us, like myself wouldn't take or be fit enough to do) good old Blue still wanting to play fetch 😂.
Gigantic effort by both of you to get to the top.....wow and well done 👏
Your food looked far from what you said it was in the opening credits (sh*t as you said) haha, it looked good tbh but I do prefer steak Diane sauce 😋

Mucho’s Kidos Al 👌🏻👏👏..that’s one hell of a achievement with a dog of Blues size👏… I went across Pavey arc in this summers heatwave to end a two dayer with my dog, she’s just over 1yr and I’ve been taking her out forming that bond & trust since she a pup…I took your advice & got her the Ruffwear harness exactly like Blues…the price made cry for a week or so 😂 but wow are they worth it👌🏻…I’ve had her on rope & carabiner a few times especially on Yewbarrow’s decent..worth every penny in my opinion.

Amazing video mate! Great to see Blue putting his trust in you to help him when he’s stuck! Reminds me of when I did Tryfan via the north ridge with my two - slow and steady, picking the route & having to lift them up in places to assist! Love seeing other mountain dogs out living their best life’s 👍🏼

Gave you a vote matey. It's brilliant to watch somone take on tougher routes and camps than most I have two merles so know that it takes that extra effort to keep the dogs safe in the mountains. But you filming it really gives me the confidence to take them on myself. Every time I heros theme I know I'm in for an inspiring watch haha.
