      What do you think?

    • @networm64
      @networm64 2 года назад +9

@@flashforum939 I do agree and that's more obvious recently when even top of the line cameras like A1, A7siii and either FX3 haven't got any level of a decent firmware update yet and a7siii is out for almost a couple of years now! Sony has turned from a good player to a very bad player recently and it seems they care more about influencer than their real customers! Nikon is doing exactly the opposite, even giving firmware updates to their old DSLR camera users. This trust making manner will lead to more major upgrades from loyal users, but what Sony is doing is rather persuading you to switch brand instead of upgrading your current model! They did the exact same shit with apsc lineup. No real improvement on a6500/a6300 and they only tried to convince you to buy the newer generation while the upgraded features were so marginal.

They screwed their customers over with the introduction of Z6/Z7 that were put out on the shelves with horrible autofocus to a point where you'd think they were selling beta-stage bodies to early adopters. Yes, they brought a decent firmware update in that regard 2 YEARS LATER, but what about those who initially bought it as proud Nikon fans? It doesn't matter what Nikon does; I'll always take what they offer with a grain of salt. Also, their lens lineup isn't as special as Canons per se.

Sony has a lot to learn from this. I've got a A7r4 and a A1. A7r4, a 4000 euros camera has not recieved any update since about 2 years... Sony A1, "the flagship", still no major update (except rumors about a A1 markII...). A74, the entry level, has focus breathing compensation, A1 don't.... Sony doesn t update there products, they just throw a lot of new hardware waiting for pigeons to rush on it.

@@aboynamedjamil comming from Nikon there are too many things I'm waiting from sony to be stated here. IR remote engaged (good luck to find the reason the first time it appens to you)... There are a lot of funky stuff like that, that could be "solved" with a simple firmware uptdate. Adding lossless compression for RAW is a must on a 60Mpix camera (for this one, that might be hardware-incompatible)
About the A1, it is a wonderfull camera but there is room for improvement, especialy in video. Desqueeze, better levels management. I was talking about focus breathing as a symbolic. A lot of people have bought this camera for video, it s very strange Sony don t keep up with ehancement.

Also I don't like pulling audio from a 3.5mm mic jack where with the C70 I have 2 mini XLR ports and a mic jack. Not to mention insane battery life by using the BP-A60 or A30 batteries. Then top it off with Canon color and lens choices. Majority of people who shoot video are already in the Canon or Sony ecosystem since Nikon is sports photography focused. Best Firmware Upgrade:? The Lumix S1 has been the sneakiest most inexpensive little trojan horse camera. Just gets all the same upgrades as the S1h and S5. It absolutely lowers the entry cost to full frame 10bit 6k raw to almost nothing... (and the autofocus is actually usable now)

For the exposure compensation and the exposure slider behaving weird, you could most likely bypass this issue by moving to the HDR wheels, setting up the input gamma and colorspace to nikon log and use the global adjustement to adjust with proper exposure stops. 1 stop will be 1 stop and so on!

Would love to pick this up someday.. For me, the combined firmware updates or the original z6 really transformed the camera for me. I got it pretty early before 2.0 and 3.0 (was still better than a7iii and eos R for my purposes) and wasn't super happy with af overall and especially subject tracking cumbersome-Ness, but now I find it very usable and subject tracking is very effective. Z6 1.1to to 3.4 is like a completely different camera.

    Thank you for the vid!
Regarding the NRaw WB issue. I have used quite a few raw files and I have not had the experience shown here at all. Arriraw and Redcode as well as Braw's WB, in my experience and thorough testing, does not have this kind of result since the WB is metadata and is applied in post production. Nikon's raw here seems to be bending what raw is or the NLE controls are not behaving how they should. It seems to me Nraw, if its not an NLE issue, is more akin to prores 12bit 4444 if the white balance is this weird to correct in post production, but even that is easier to correct than what I am seeing here. Would love access to the files :).
    Arri raw according to Arri:
“For the absolute best in image quality, for the greatest flexibility in post, and for safest archiving, the 16-bit (linear) raw data stream from the sensor can be recorded as 12-bit (log) ARRIRAW files. Nothing is “baked” into an ARRIRAW image: Image processing steps like de-Bayer, white balance, sensitivity, up-sampling or down-sampling, which are irreversibly applied in-camera for compressed recording, HD-SDI outputs, and the viewfinder image, are not applied to ARRIRAW. All these parameters can be applied to the image in post.”

Pretty sure Nikon paid for a license when they made the upgrade with the Z6. I think now instead of having users pay for an update and send their cameras in they probably just added it to the overall cost which makes more sense.

I don't know anything about Nikon. It seems that this thing doesn't have a fan at all, right? And is able to shoot 8K raw at 60 FPS for an hour without overheating? ... mind blown. 10 years ago everyone was hyped about the 5D mark II shooting video. But I think in 2022 the cameras more and more gets to "Arri" level. Sure, Arri, RED, and so on got 14, 15 stops. But it is just amazing how close you can get with an URSA Mini, Kinefinity, C-Series or a Nikon. I like that there is a lot of competition going on. No more "bottleneck" BS from the companies.

I think they still downsample to 4K but using a different algorithm or method than the one for 4K 30. A faster less precise method that won’t give you the sharpest 4K image but you get to keep the full frame area. Something like Pixel binning maybe? Just guessing here.

Quick question: Ricci noted that the frame rate refresh rate in the EVF dropped notably when using the pre-capture mode making it's usefulness somewhat limited (I assume this is even when the 120 fps EVF refresh rate is enabled - dropping it even below the 60 fps by a significant amount. Did you see that?

Blackmagic probably gets the award for largest amount of useful updates that I can remember. Data rates, overlays, RAW additions, etc etc. The BMPCC probably had the most epic updates or maybe its just because I owned one but their whole line has been great at actually adding features and improving the camera and listening to customers intently. It doesn't so much feel like they held features back like a lot of larger companies do so much as continued to develop the camera as it expanded its username and ran into more and more issues. Bravo for Nikon doing what I feel like is very much in the same vein.

Oh and not working with clients anymore.. now just my own stills, video and future nature/feral cat rescue stories with my BMPCC4K... would like to get a camera that can do it all with same sensor/lens combo.. though I do like what I get from BRAW in Davinci from my BMPCC4K.. just no stills to brag about obviously

Sounds awesome!! Just recently researched the Angelbird CF Express 4Tb after i purchased one a month or so ago and in red letters this card is only compatable w the Z9 !So the card can prob keep up. I have been using this card in my GH6 flawlessly in highest codecs and frame rates! Yestarday i upgraded to the 2.0 and when i did i now receive a prompt warning this card exceeds 2Tb! I would had sent it back if it didnot work initially but it worked without any problems . Like Atomos i assumed trial and error such as a card would not work then would work after an update. That is not the case. Totally backwards! There is no original firmware to download to bypass just the 2.0 new one. Would a factory reset do just that? Thanks

Would this finally challenge the hegemony of Sony and Canon? If I remember correctly, Nikon was the first company to put video features in a DSLR. It has taken them more than two decades to produce a camera which the Sony and Canon couldn't and didn't want to do. Cost is a factor. But, this is a game changer to say the least. I wonder whether Nikon while sitting on the sidelines got so frustrated with the games played by both Sony and Canon that they finally decided to give us what we have speculated and begged all these years. But, cost is a serious factor.
