  • Like so many others, hunting and fishing is at the core of my life and lifestyle. In Australia we are seeing increasing attacks in the political arena even though interest in those pastimes is on the increase. I will not tollerate seeing my pastimes and the pastimes of others be denigrated publicly and this video explains why.

Very well spoken Alex and I totally agree with every word you said I'm turning 75 this year and the 65 years I've fished and hunted for have been the best years of my life I've also suffered from depression and the bush has always been my saviour these days just being in the bush is enough listening to the sounds watching the wildlife go about its business breathing in the air and the smells maybe catching a trout and cooking it on the fire it is part of who I am and it's a place where I have never been afraid it's my sanctuary .To all those who have never experienced the exhilaration of a hunt or landing a decent fish in a mountain stream you haven't lived yet.

I just spent a week away from my family, working and pig hunting in NSW, I've never felt better! I feel completely recharged and happier than I have for a long time. If it's good for me, it rubs off on the people i love, and they get the benefits of a happier husband and father. I fish, I hunt and I love the outdoors, I stand with you and appreciate your passion 👊❤️

Well said mate. The bush does wonders for mental health. I grew up in the suburbs on Sydney, and I didn't really start camping or spending time in the bush till my early 20's. Now, with the channel, I'm out camping every fortnight and it's shaped who I am and the connection I have to the bush is profound. The bush is a powerful teacher. I'm not a hunter, I don't come from a hunting family (I actually used to be a vegetarian years ago and was against hunting), but I have done a complete 180 on the topic. I've gotten into fishing over the last few years and I hope to get into hunting soon. So just know, that even as a non hunter, I fully support peoples pursuit to live that lifestyle. It's just a shame that a few rotten eggs have given hunting a bad name.

The foundation of Australia is the bush. A move to "civilize" society means moving away from self reliance and imposing the heavy dependency on policies and politics to take care of us. It's against the natural way. The bush community is right to take a stand. It's important to be able to hunt, gather, forage, camp, etc. as it keeps us independent, and yes, you're right, keeps us 'healthy' in whichever way that matters for the bush folk. That's a risk to the agenda though, independence means you can't conform. Australia was built, even before settlement, on connection to the land, and then after, settlers found a way to connect with the land, too. We need to keep this connection. As someone proudly part of the bush community, this video certainly resonated. Well said. Ivan.

Your genuine passion for our sport, civil freedoms and comradeship is truly inspiring. It took being locked up in Victoria during covid for me to realise how my time in the bush fly fishing, bow hunting and prospecting kept me in a good place mentally. Being unable to get out profoundly affected me. The thought of no longer being able to, particularly stalk Sambar, Fallow and trout in our wonderful high country is more than I can cope with.... my blood boils! You are an important social media presence and have tuned me in to being more proactive toward preserving our mutual, loved bush pursuits. God Bless you and be well.

Just subbed. Totally agree with you mate. 👍 Some of the laws here in Australia are off the charts. I'm originally from South Africa where I grew up fishing and hunting. The bush is my balance and we are all lucky to live in this beautiful country. It truly is a beautiful country. The sad thing is there are people making decisions in this country with limited knowledge based on the subjects you have touched on. People that are in powerful positions that can at the drop of the hat ban something even if majority are all law abiding citizens. There is no logic behind it. There should be more hunting and the pig population where I am has increased ten fold. I am seeing pigs move in to locations where you would never see them before and I am talking hundreds of them. The problem is when we give a finger they take both the arms.

Although I have been doing pest control on my property I haven’t slept out in a swag and cooked on a fire for several years until this week just gone . I spent 4 days alone on a mates. Property trapping dogs and hunting a few stags. I sat by the fire and thought to myself several times how good it is for my mental health to be out there. Then by chance I see this video today . Thanks Profty. Your comment regarding "bush people" and overlapping rights is spot on. Look at what has happened in Victoria regarding fines for bush walking on non government sanctioned trails. Unfortunately too many people do take these things for granted. Just recently had a crack a trout fishing in a creek before the closure and there was rubbish from lure packets on the creek side. I have seen the same thing in state forests with rubbish splayed out over campsites with ammo packets and shotgun shells included in the mess. Thanks again for the encouragement.

Well spoken mate, I'm an ecologist in Queensland and I am pro hunting etc. We have to hold onto our connection with nature, as you said 'natural pursuits'. Going back to old ways of producing, hunting and gathering our own of food; as long as it's done sustainably, I think offers solutions to so many of our problems. The problem we face is creating societal change when so many people are so disconnected from nature and our natural ways. Not to mention the fact hunting is often demonised and those that are so vocal have never met, or care to acknowledge, that there are so many hunters like yourself who do it for all the right reasons. I stand with you mate!

Again, great video. The comparison of hunters, fishers, hikers horse riders, etc, is so correct, some times it is easy to forget how similar we are. I tell my fishing mates your next. I have a great friend ive been hunting red deer with for 30 years. He went with his grandson, knocking on doors in the Brisbane valley looking for a property to take his grandson hunting on. After knock back after knock back, out of frustration he explained to the property owner, that young people in the city were being removed from the opportunity to embrace the country, primary production, where our food comes from, how it ends up at coles. We need to box smart, i work in a work place with probably 200 other people, i can count on one hand the amount of hunters there, but hundreds who dont understand how you can harvest an animal to eat. So imagine the amount of next generation that are being taught ignorance about the real world we survive in. We have made mistakes too, John Howerd introduced the strictest gun laws imaginable against law abiding citizens, and we didnt appose him at the next election, in the usa this would of been unthinkable.

It's about time that we should stop being apologetic about our perfectly legal sports just because some vocal minority tells us that we are doing is wrong. You are right, we should be united against these people because if we don't challenge these arbitrary decisions, these changes will become the thin end of the wedge and will impact on all field sports.

Then being lucky enough to harvest fresh free range meat is a bonus that really tops it all off! Beautifully said mate, I'm always ranting and raving to someone or some comment thread about these topics. A lot of fellow men of European decent have lost all touch with the wild world and healing of nature.
It seems we are ancient souls from old times stuck in modern digitized slavery times.
The moronic laws in Vic surrounding fishing during covid practically broke my will and passion for fishing, due to the realization of how much sway the media induced fear controlled people, even now it's not what it was but I've been working on it.
The beauracratic mess really does make it hard to find a mental balance between the negative rage they incite within us and positive out look and love for nature.
People are so caught up playing left vs right they don't realize they are feeding the nanny state whilst also spiting their fellow outdoorsman.
Our voting system is failed, mainly due to voter laziness but also sly political tactics. Have these poser parties like the shooters, fishers, farmers party who honestly just use their name to soak up votes from those who relate to the name yet they don't really have a backbone and constantly cave in on negotiations and debates.
The covid lockdowns where a very good insight to what life will be if people don't stand up for ourselves and find some common ground.
We also have to be wary that it's not just between hunters, fishers, fossickers, hiking and all variants of those those hobbies and passions people have to be united but also not fall into divisive media traps like vax/no Vax, Black vs white, left vs right to maintain the unity.
Trying to suffocate the remaining old ways out of us but we shall persist.

I’ve spent the better part of 47 years out in the great Aussie outdoors.Whether I was trail bike riding, fishing, bush walking/camping,hunting,gold prospecting or 4 wheel driving it makes me feel alive. What I do in my free time isn’t just a hobby, a pass time etc it’s a way of life.A limited few with their own agenda are jeopardising the health and well being of millions of Australians.Enough is enough!

As an American, I feel this should have been said back before 1999 when they went after slingshots. If they disarm you, you have no way to fight back.

well said and for Australian hunters to be put in positions where a pig or red fox etc is still alive and you have to use a rifle to finish them off and you have the rifle muzzle really close to the animals head i see that as not really safe and not practical. pistols would give more distance from the animals head and if you have those wild dogs running at you to attack you and you fall down and drop your rifle being able to pull out a pistol can mean the difference of staying alive and avoiding injury. also charging feral pigs.

well spoken Alex i agree with you and have the same thoughts on supporting others even if it doesn't affect me directly. The reality is it goes well beyond just activities in the bush, it is about removing freedoms of the individual in a general sense.
    keep up your excellent work.

United we are strong we need to support all aspects of the outdoors wheather your a shooter fisher hunter bow Hunter 4x4 or anything else we need to support each other and not let these governing bodies and ungrateful people destroy our rights to explore and love this country we call the great southern land, stand up and support our rights to live off the land and enjoy our land to live healthy and free so plant your veggies hunt for your meat feed your animals fish for a catch and enjoy this great land we call home, don’t be forced to buy meat wrapped in plastic and fill the pockets of mega corporations and be locked out of a country you help build … #ivgotyourback

And I’m glad that you didn’t come across as a redneck.
I don’t think I’ve ever come home from a fish, hunt dirt bike ride etc in a bad mood. It tires out the body but refreshes the soul. Let all be responsible in our. Pursuits so the nay sayers don’t have an excuse.
Mental health is to be encouraged.
    Good times are natural.

Not taking anything away from depression, anxiety and mental illness as my wife struggles every day. But alot of younger people who hate school, not happy. Jobs shit , girlfriend trouble blame depression. Depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain that needs treatment. Just because your sad and hate life for awhile does not mean mental illness. But saying that getting out of the city and moving rural has changed our lives soooo much for the better

Profty, you really should consider running for politics. I know you wouldn’t want to, but the way you articulate our argument for our right to hunt needs to be shared with a much broader audience. I’d vote for you
