- *No More Lithium! BYD Shifts To Sodium-Ion Batteries*
BYD, one of the world’s leading electric vehicle manufacturers, is making a significant shift from lithium-ion to sodium-ion batteries. This move is driven by the increasing cost and scarcity of lithium, as well as environmental concerns associated with its extraction. Sodium-ion batteries, while slightly less energy-dense, are much cheaper to produce and rely on more abundant materials. This transition could revolutionize the EV industry by reducing costs and making electric vehicles more accessible to a broader audience. BYD's innovative approach may set a new standard for battery technology, potentially leading to a more sustainable future for the industry.

This is a professionally made AD by BYD.
Much up-beat talk, however Na-Ion batteries are not the solution. Power-to-weight ratio will be lower making the already high EV weight problem even worst with less range.
I like it, and I don't need 300+ miles of range, but is this real? I just learned BYD just made the new 'Blade' battery, a plank-shapes Li-ion battery that uses space more efiiciently.
This is kind of a BYD puff-piece, but sodium ion appears to be a very important battery chemistry for the future, particularly as a byproduct of desalination. Although I agree with the current trend towards reindustrialization (bringing it back from China), I would still like to see great Chinese firms like CATL and BYD be able to compete fairly in the American market via joint ventures and local sourcing. This would hasten the United State's transition to sustainable energy.
How to use lots of words to basically convey no real information...
Lithium is not rare at all. Who came up with that nonsense? The prices are dropping dramatically.
Currently the sodium batteries don’t have the energy density of lithium. It doesn’t mean though that it won’t catch up.
