Greetings from Newfoundland. Thanks for posting your video. Great opportunity to watch and hunt such an amazing animal. To bad about the missed shots, maybe next time. Darcy is my nephew and he is a pretty good hunter and outfitter. Darcy offers hunts for several other spices as well and wolf hunting is a new species for him, so it will get even better quickly I'm sure. Looking forward to any follow-up hunting videos you may make make with him.

I’ve watched a lot of your videos, I think you’re a good hunter and I enjoy watching! As an Albertan I can honestly say I really enjoy your content. Sorry for your unfortunate luck on this hunt, I can’t necessarily say I agree with the decision to shoot such a long distance without being absolutely confident about the shot but that’s just my opinion. Doesn’t mean much because it’s not my hunt. Ya live and ya learn. Thanks for being real and showing those misses. That’s hunting, I have nothing but respect for that. I think a lot of RUclips videos nowadays make hunting look like it’s something that it’s not. Hunting is hard and a lot of the time it just doesn’t work out. Better luck next time my friend!

Great hunt and footage. Wolf are the hardest animal hunt I think bar none. The bait's are out there because it's not often you can get them closer then 250-300 yards. I got my first wolf last year it was a black female, a pack came out as I was on a hill side watching a cow moose from about 350 yrds here in BC. there was 14 wolves in the pack. I took mine at about 315 yrds, but like you said you need to practice at that and I do. 350 is as far as I will shoot. Every hunt is special, take the memories from this hunt and what you learned and give it a go again. Kinda cool you put this out today as I picked up my wolf hide from the tanner today. Awesome channel keep at it.

    • @djboutdoors6473
      @djboutdoors6473  19 дней назад

@@Rustytinn all very good points. For a lot of people those shots I had aren’t much of an issue. And the point you make on the bait being far definitely helps those wolves feel comfortable. Nothing wrong at all with the setup. Darcy has that spot set up perfectly.

@@djboutdoors6473 We set up on a small lake/pond with an old trap cabin on it and have the bait at 275 yards. our blind is tucked in the bush up on a bit of a hill looking down on the pond and the bait. If the wolves see or hear you they bolt very smart animal. If you start trying to set up yourself drill some holes in the lake/pond and cover the bait with water to freeze it onto the pond so they cant walk off with parts like that one wolf did.

      May i ask caliber?
      I have a 300 mag, 3 boys have 270s, and daughter has
      243
All 3 are awesome and drop basically the same because around 3000 mv
I have all these guns sighted
3 inches high at 100 yds
This makes a 300 yd shot a chip shot. Guns are -1 inch
      350 yd -5 inch
      400 yd -11inch
I do practice and shoot my 300 mag and my own 243 heavy barrell predator suppressed. I'm regular on 300 yd coyotes any day
I'm comfortable on any day to 600 yds with 300 mag
My kids don't practice but tge way I set them up makes 300yds like shooting chickens
I advise resetting for gun for 3 inches high at 100 and shoot at 300 and 350 in same position as in blind
Then go back and smack blacky with confidence

I did pull other hunts you have put out for deer and very impressive videos. You know what you are doing and really have a nice thing going on.
After seeing those my view of you quickly changed. Top notch hunter
I see by videos it appears you kill from 50 to 150 yds
Im a open praire hunter in SD. Average shot 300 yds
I sure hope you go back and get on the horse this winter. If i can make a suggestion, i would change point if impact to +3 inches at 100yd
With that gun you will be -1 inch 300yd
    -5 inch 350yd
Then go to one of your hay fields and confirm 250 300 350
Then move impact back for next years deer hunt
In my territory i have all rifles +3 in at 100yds

It’s so hard to contain a guys excitement and not hurry the shot. My experience is; we sight our guns in warm summer weather with heavy air. Then shoot at -10 when the air is thin and cold. So at 270 yards and I’m assuming you zero at 200? Just hold right on center mass or just over center mass slightly.

@@patrickpryal9344 what did I have to lose.? How about making an ever poorer shot than I did for one. Wounding a wolf would have been much worse. Ruining the bait sight for the outfitter by just “throwing lead” was also something I wasn’t wanting to do. Not to mention that just “throwing lead” doesn’t align with my principles as a hunter.
