Well done! Lots of great content in that video. The buck working that scrape, the little ruffie, and the realistic ending where you make the decision to accept the gift of an awesome deer. Great of you to include that final shot too, that's hunting 👍. Congrats. ps: you've got a new subscriber 😁
Gotta say I really appreciate the effort of videoing your hunts and showing the real aspects of the hunt. As a fellow albertan GP area, it's neat to see you hunting similar areas I do. I would love to see a video dedicated to tactics specifically. Preseason and scouting as well as decision process on where to set up etc. Keep up the good work!
@@djboutdoors6473 Great hunt! I was wondering why you chose that spot? Not all the bucks and does came to the scrape and their wasn't much brouse. Was it between two bedding areas or a funnel?
@@dantracy7314 the entire area back there is bedding/daytime movement area. That spot is the longest (line of sight) section of that cutline. So it’s the most area I can see and cover at a time. There are other areas that have more sign and more movement but very limited sight lines. When it comes to picking spots I try to pick spot where I know there is both decent daytime movement and as much sight visibility as possible.
Really great hunt! Every time I saw that deer, I just kept thinking when is he going to cave. And I don’t mean cave in a bad way it just kept showing up and each time he did you had to be soul searching as to why you shouldn’t shoot him. The video really does a great job of depicting the emotions of hunting big bucks. I think the battle you were having with yourself almost cost you in the end.
When it comes down to it the success for me isn’t defined by whether or not I pull the trigger. Ultimately yes, the goal is to harvest an animal but my expectations going into every whitetail season is that it’s a reality I might not fill a tag. And I’m content with that. But i find as I get older and mature as a hunter there are elements about each hunt I find more and more gratifying. 9 times out of 10 I would let that deer go. But in that moment, the circumstances that encompassed that morning…it just felt right. And I’m so happy to have made that decision. Thanks for watching Craig and as always, appreciate the comments!
I get that you had a particular buck in mind, But the first time I saw the buck you ended up taking, And you passed on him, I was impressed with your will power! When I heard the click of the safety, I knew the bucks luck had run out. He's a dandy!! Congratulations!
What a choice spot. Your all day dedication is very inspirational. What an awesome buck you should have no regrets that is a trophy! I hear exactly what you're saying I feel the same way at the end of the season when I put it in day after day after day waiting for the so-called right dear there's always regrets. You made the right call 100% ...
No way I could have passed him up the first time. lol Great buck. Was cool camera view to see you find him while checking for blood. Would have loved to have seen a frontal view of him up close.
Well I see where all the deer I was hunting went. They all went to your place lol. Great deer! I'm glad you had such great action. I had lots on camera but when I was out hunting I didn't see a darn thing.
Wow what a stud. To be honest I would have had a hard time passing on the 5 point at the 16 minute mark. Good thing you turned the camera on when you checked for blood. Excellent video as always.
This was really great video ..congratz on another great buck !! Found you last year, by accident looking up alberta big buck videos ..been watching ever since ..can't wait see you wife or boy get that g2 buck in next video possibly ? 😉
I love them big bodied deer in Canada. Never got to hunt there. I just live across the bridge in Michigan but man. I remember growing up watching Roger raglin shooting monster dark antlered bucks in Canada. Jimmmminneyyy chirtmassssss... Heck of a deer there
For me, I really thought this was a fantastic video, and hunt oc. Like others, I Couldn’t believe you were passing on this deer. Def wall hanger. I’ve killed a few myself but this would have been a lifetime deer for me. Well done! Can’t believe you were able to stay in one place all day long either.
Thanks Graham. Really appreciate the comments. Sitting all day is something that I’ve had to learn over the years but it is hands down, the best way (in my opinion) to consistently kill big deer. Or at least gives me the best chance. It’s definitely not the only way but it’s worked so well for me over the years it’s tough to stray from that.
That 165 was dead in round 1 for me. Great choice between two or more possibilities with great quality hunt and recording. Beauty ten point in his glory….fair chase done!
Nice one! That's exactly how they behave when they're gutshot - they freeze up and don't really want to run. When he stood up, he froze & arched his back which is also normal. Where did the 2nd shot hit?
Congrats! We have sitka blacktail here so it looks monstrous. I do have a question. You made the bleat sound, he looks, then starts I hear the saftey click, were you thinking of not shooting him? You seemed to hesitate. I wouldn’t. It’s a trophy. Just wondering
I had already passed on this buck twice before. When I decided I was going to shoot that morning I bleated and pulled the trigger but had forgot to click off safety. So had to take another second to take safety off. That’s why shot was late. Appreciate you watching!
@@djboutdoors6473 well I really appreciate you posting the video. I live in southeast Alaska and can only dream hunting big whitetails. Sigh. Dreaming of the day 😋
Northern Alberta 😃. Just out of respect for others in our area I don’t really say where we do our hunting but it is north of Edmonton. Thanks for watching the video!
@@djboutdoors6473 oh no problem man totally understandable. Dont expect the area to be mention. 👍🙏beautiful place n awesome hunting. Really enjoy the video . 👍
Hi there! I’m not sure if that’s the same deer or not. That was only time I saw him this year and no trail cam pictures of him either so I can’t be sure. If I were to guess I’d say yes but really am not certain.
I’d have to say yes too based on how long the beams are in relation to the tine length. Great video and great buck. Nice job adding some summer velvet pictures in there too, really cool seeing how these deer develop their antlers.
George shoot him in the ear give you $20 . Fill tags for $20 is a good day pay buddy 😊. Man o man I can smell the onions 🧅 frying in the cast iron fry pan .
Them buck in the rut give you $10 , feed them to my husky dogs buddy . You can keep all the horn can’t eat them . Shoot good dry doe give you $40 buddy .
Great deer, Great video, and now you have time to hunt with family (most important), those are the memories that last forever.
100%!
What a great hunt. Beautiful deer. Thanks for the video. Unexpected finish, for sure!

Very nice you would have to be nuts to pass that deer up great video thanks for sharing 👍 dinner is served 😀
Your videos are some of the best I've see! And I've seen a lot!
Great video footage, as usual.
That Flyer buck is a great deer, I would never be able to pass on that buck twice like you did!
Hats off to you D!
Thank you sir!
Really nice mature buck, well done! He's a shooter all day long. Also, really well done video, thoroughly enjoyed it. Happy Holidays from Florida.

The amount of opportunities and indecision??? I know I am a lot older than you, but I know that I would have been done a LOT SOONER. 😀
