My mom hires people all the time and had thousands of resumees on her desk. Once she was looking for a doctor to hire and one had the right qualifications but his picture was of him and three beautiful women in front of a luxury car. She didn't like that but she decided to let him come for an interview just to ask about the picture and maybe give him the advice to not use that picture anymore. The guy came in and was super nice and charismatic and when my mom asked him about the picture it turned out the women were his wife and two daughters and the car was his and they just made this super nice family portrait and he liked it so much he put it on his resumee. My mom really liked the attitude and they continued the interviev and in the end she hired him. He really wasn't the macho poser guy she thought he would be. 😄

I freaking loved the frothy milk as a kid. Babychinos weren't a thing then but my mum would get a cappuccino if we went to a coffee shop and let me have the foam from the top.
When I got older, I noticed she would have a flat white and I asked her why she didn't have cappuccino anymore and she told me she didn't like the foamy milk, she only used to get them so I could have the foam. RIP Mum x

I did something bad in my career. I was a barista at day and bartender at night. 10 years of experience. In one of the restaurant I worked we had cocktails with alcohol and non alcoholic version. It was crazy busy one Saturday evening. I had dozen of cocktails lined up, printer was bit funky cutting ends of words. Someone ordered French Fancy (non-alco) but alcohol version of that was named French Martini. My brain completely ignored second word on the ticket, I made alcohol version. And when everything slowed down, I looked at the table and I saw 6years old drinking alcohol cocktail. I just had voice from the meme in my head: oooooooh I fucked up.

I had undiagnosed ADHD so instead of going insane like a normal child it helped my brain regulate for a bit so I could have a train of thought instead of just being feral, so I can see why she didn't think it might be an issue lol. I would have asked my coworkers. Like it wouldn't be weird to be like "Oh hey, could you help me with this one, i've actually never made this one drink before, let alone heard about it" I feel that would have been a very acceptable "confession". No matter if we are actually professional at something, there will always be something new that pops up that we miss.

So many people tell me they are "coffee trained" at my work, then ask where the pod goes...(for example the brand Keurig)
That isn't espresso in a cafe, and they need to learn quick.
My niece and sister (also past baristas) were discussing this, and my niece yelled out "It's not a Keurig Greg!"

People will say what they need to to get a job because the world doesn't guarantee a true basic living without one, and employers have moved from training for lifetime positions/trades, to refusing almost any training whenever possible. So employers (and all of the leadership class) may as well be begging (implicitly at least) job seekers to lie their fucking socks off.

@SwobyJ unfortunately I totally agree with you. I wouldn't not offer a position solely based on that. I can teach skills like that if someone is willing to learn. I applied for a job as an administrator a few years ago. I usually do have great attention to detail, I'm a little anal about it actually. However... this time I did everything, checked it twice as usual... then I proceeded to change the format to what they requested on the application but never, checked, the, new, format... everything had changed, like I've actually no idea how I did it. Of course I didn't check it until after I submitted the application..... The whole thing was unreadable. It looked like it was done by a 4 year old, not someone who worked as a senior administrator for over 14 YEARS! Needless to say I never got a reply... not even a thanks for applying. 🤦 I'm still embarrassed about it now.

Personality of a wet mop... and very little interest in doing anything other than turning up, looking good and getting paid for it... amazing.

The only real lie on my resume is that I leave out one particular job in my job history. The reason I leave it out is because 1. I was only there for 3 weeks.
    2. It was the worst job I've ever had (call center, cold calling people who filled out an internet form to bypass a pop-up).
    3. It's the only job I pulled a no call/no show on because it was so horrible. I found a new job and just started the next day. I went in for my final paycheck a week later and didn't say a word to anyone 😂 Do I don't bother putting it in my resume because it barely counts.

That thing with people not getting the name right, it used to drive me nuts, but there was just no going against it. It's MacKinnon, it's really not that difficult if you pay attention to detail :). But I got MacIntosh, McKenzie, McEnroe, Makehan, and a slew of others, the least bad offenders were Mac Kinnon and Mackinnon, at least they used the correct letters. It seems that people have gotten better at that job though, since it's really rare now (really just the last two), but there was a time where 4 out of 5 letters, name tags, what have you ... would have an entirely different name on them.
