They`ve probably decided to change the part about his death the way they didn`t include the fight in which Peter burned his face in the movie and he just got knocked out here(let`s face it that didn`t seem like a killing hit). Well, yeah u get to play as him at the end of the game but he's never actually seen or mentioned again in the main story. I suppose its not very clear wether he lived or died in the game but since its based of the movie (in which he dies) I would say that he was thrown into sand tornado and killed.

Venom itself is an alien organism that can bond to a host in order to survive, Spidey was it's first host. When Spider-Man rejected it, as you can see here, the organism bonded to Eddie Brock and became Venom.
The ending of the movie was understandable, vaporizing the symbiote with the pumpkin grenade. But in the game, only Eddie dies. The Symbiote is still very much alive. I hope they know where they are going with this :/
