The Hudson River valley has long been the proving ground of transportation, especially when it comes to the water level passage of the New York Central System. Beginning in 2021, the United Railroad Historical Society has been coupling up with Amtrak to allow its ornately restored observation car, "Hickory Creek," onto the back of one of its Empire Service trains from New York (Moynihan Train Hall) to Albany-Rensselaer, NY. Traversing the original trackage, with passengers encouraged to period dress, stepping aboard one of the last remaining cars from the 20th Century Limited makes for an extraordinary time warp.
Music in the description!
I love the 20th century limited
Thanks
I always appreciate it when RUclipsrs link to music they used in their videos.
I thought private cars were banned....
@@cykablyatman6242 nah they aren’t
This video proves that the train can still be king of transportation if people are willing to give it the chance it deserves, keep up the good work.
I do my best. :)
I like trains
**train smashes through house**
same
same
Same bro same
Cant agree more
Your presentation (and the musical score!) did the URHS justice for their fantastic equipment restoration and operation.
Bravo!
They certainly deserve the recognition. I can't recommend this trip enough!
Man I never knew this existed. Gotta check this out someday when it's around. If only the MTA FL9s in NYC paint were still around in the area.
I think the no commentary approach was exactly what made this video great. Well done, really enjoyed it.
Indeed, it's easy to forget how video is a *visual* medium, and works at its best with, "Show, not tell."
I like the professional attire of the passengers and crew. It's almost as if they were going to see Minions: Rise of Gru
I think we would've preferred North by Northwest. ;)
@@HighIron another great film of course!
Like how people are dressed up for the trip it really dose give. A old era feeling
That’s the idea!
what would really be neat would be to get as many New York Central Passenger cars in the consists as possible along with some authentic New York Central diesels and then it would really bring it back into the 50s
A 20th Century Limited inspired train taking from Penn Station instead of Grand Central is what I like to call ironic.
And yes, I know it takes off from Penn because that’s where the Empire Corridor has terminated since Amtrak opened a connector line between Penn and the Water Level Route. That don’t change the fact that it’s still massively ironic that a New York Central inspired excursion takes off from what’s left of the Pennsylvania Railroad’s Big Apple station.
Ironic because of the competition?
Szerintem itt versenyképesebb a vasút. Tudom, Amerikában sokkal nagyobbak a távolságok. Nem lehet Európához hasonlítani.
this is really cool, if only we had a steam locomotive hauling it
Yeah like a **COUGH*hudson*COUGH**
@@cowcatcherstudios5759 nah one of the two surviving Mohawks
@@cowcatcherstudios5759 even if one was still around, I think nNew York city has restrictions about steam trains entering the tunnels.
@@trainfan998 Well thats why NYCRR used electrics around New York City. Then when they were out of the restricted zone, a Hudson would take over the train the rest of the journey.
I hope Mohawk 3001 well pull that train in the future
Looks like an incredible experience, congrats on securing a ticket
It’s highly sought after!
I hope next time in the future I would have a chance to ride on such a magnificent train known to the world as the 20th century limited
Bravo
Thanks!
Loved the cinematography and music in this! Really gave a better look into what transportation in North America was like 50+ years ago.
I have been inside the Hickory Creek and much of the other equipment at URHS. Tom Gallo is a good buddy of mine.
What a beautiful documentary thank you for sharing
Our pleasure!
Very cool! Enjoyed the music also.
Awesome, thank you!
You should do a documentary on the cancelled 21st Century Limited train Ross Rowland had failed to get off the ground
I love trains
these NYC cars especially the Observation car looks so damn attractive...
Amazing never fail to impress
Oh the Century, there truly was no better way to travel. Can’t even imagine getting to ride that thing back in it’s day, roaring along the Hudson River pulled by a Dreyfus Hudson locomotive. Great video the score was very well done!👍
Thanks, it certainly deserved the best treatment!
@@HighIronIndeed, and you definitely gave it such
This looks so amazing!
amazing!
Thanks!
I love how they brought out the red carpet lol
Interesting to see the AR ops. Any chance you have footage from the Pittsburgh-NYC run?
Wow
I wish someone would be able to restore the 1930s rolling stock of the 20th century limited and put it in service like they did with the Orient Express in Europe.
They sure definitely keep amtrak coachs and private cars nice and shinny
I've seen pictures of the train on the route to Albany where it was on super elevated curves. I'm guessing the need for them diminished over the years because the tracks seem mostly flat now. Trains lost their luster went the FRA put a 79mph speed limit on trains. the Century used to go 100mph non stop for 500 miles.
“Ah yes, the fancy 20th century limited coach.” *laughs in fancy way* 🍷
if only a hudson could lead!
Any steamer on the point would be nice...
@@cowcatcherstudios5759 if its NYC labeled, then it might work.
@@TracksideFoxnFuntimeFox yeah, like 2933 or 3001
@@cowcatcherstudios5759 i'd even be ok with 4085, and mabe even the coaches.
Can you please do a video on the history on VIA Rail Canada.
What happened to train design? 🤨🤔😥
Beautiful as Hickory Creek is, Rock Island's La Mirada is my all-time favourite....next to Milwaukee Road's Creek skytops....
Ah yes, the Water Level Route.
Hey I went on this excursion on the 26th! I was in NYC #43, but got to take a look inside HC a few times, was that the date you rode on it?
June 11th
@@HighIron oh nice, I caught it on the 11th as it went past my house
Are you the creators of San Juan branch line?
I want go to New York City there for the pizza and it railway
Me and the boys on our way to see minions rise or gru
Would NYC Hudson 5406 be back.
I saw 701 that means 701 is pulling the excursion?
709 was what pulled the train northbound; 108 led it southbound.
Hi
2:32
Was it being pulled by a J3
If only…
No, AMTK P32ADCM #709
WHEN WAS THIS?????
June 11th
Man, if only there was a certain 4-6-4 steamer on the point of that train...
No way you ride real train?

Ugly engines on a beautiful consist.
It’s not the 20th century cause it didn’t go chicago
The drumhead says otherwise. :P
@@HighIron drumhead?
