Even though I am an OG fan who already watched all these videos at the time they were released, when I am contemplating buying a new (old) game off Ebay, I always search for a Classic Game Room review first to see if it’s worth adding to my collection.
They have some of the original voice talent from the American release of Robotech and nothing beats being scolded by Lisa Hayes herself in a video game.
Robotech Battlecry is one of my go-to examples when discussing Stylized Graphics vs. Realistic Graphics in video games. Games that go the Realism route (or at least as realistic as the technology of the time will allow for) tend to age very poorly as they are outclassed within a year or two, but graphics that are stylized age far better because they appear that they were supposed to look a certain way. This game still looks as great as the day it came out, despite being 2 generations of consoles ago.
Loved playing this game all the time in high school, and I agree on Mark's statement that this is a game that services all fans of Robotech (Just hearing the opening theme again gets my heart pumping due to its tone). Hell, it was fun just to hear all the original voice actors reprise their roles again.
Me and My brother have never watched this anime before but our dad introduced us to the game, and me and bro were hooked and would play multiplayer all the time. It was a lot of great times, and this episode has got me nostalgic. Thanks CGR!
Use to play this when I was a young lad my dad showed me robotech when I was about 4 or 5 and have been hooked ever since have every episode on dvd and trying to get the box sets that have the bonus dvd
Holy moly I had to check the date to make sure I didn't go back in time! Glad to see you're reviewing some AWESOME classics! I pre-ordered this and got the collector's edition, I think I have the extras somewhere around here, would you want to have them to review or anything?
Was the gun sound effect off in this game or was the sound from the Macross movie different from the TV show? I first popped this game in I never quite got over the disappointment when gun didn't make that great "BrrrrrEEEEEEEE".
This was my very first console game ever. I enjoyed it so much when I was only seven years old, and I have been unable to play it ever since. I'm planning to get myself a copy online and pop it into my Xbox 360.
good review. your max comment at the end was funny :) as a fan and a gamer, I'd give it a 7.5/10. And best thing about it, you can get it for cheap. I just wish I would of bought the special pack, and got the shirt
@botswanky - Are you referring to the stories from the FanFiction archives? Are you referring to eBook releases? Seriously, you've got my interest here. :-)
I play this so much on my amazing Original Xbox. Great gameplay, super fun, and I find it still a bit hard to control still. But overall it beats out, in my opinion, some games right now!
I absolutely loved this game. picked it up from one of these boxes of 5€ games one time while on vacation. There where a few missions in it that where frankly just unfair tom play, but I still have fond memories of this game. Never seen the anime
I don't know what you all mean by "bad controls", I think they're fantastic for this game, I believe it'd be stiff controlling a Veritech until you're good like Max Sterling, and in this game being good means getting used to the controls, I believe it's easier to play on the Xbox but other people say that has the worst controls...
Going cel-shaded was 100% the right approach for this game. Made you feel like you were inside the actual freakin' cartoon, not just the world, which was pretty awesome.
I don't know where you got your information from, but as lease according to imdb the Castle of Cagliostro's director is Hayao Miyazaki, Fist of the North star 1986 movie is Toyoo Ashida
I enjoyed this game. I even bought the collector's edition. It came with the game, an art dossier, pocket t-shirt with Skull-one on the back, and a dog tag with Jack Archer's info on it. Not bad considering I picked it up for only $50
I had this on the Xbox and thought it was pretty great. My friend and I would always have 1 on 1 battles with targeting turned off and only allowed in jet mode... needless to say, fights took like a million years, and were hyper fun.
@CapeMike The remaining 2 tri-pods are fairly easy to deal with as long as you stay close and constantly fire off flares, which also conveniently handle the other pods attacking -you-.... This same method also works on the -other- Cat's Eye mission.... ;)
This was my go to game when i just needed to blow off some steam. I'd load up the space battles against the Zentradi cruisers and just go to town missle spamming and rifle blassing turrets and pods. I grabbed this on ebay the other day and I'm looking forward to popping it in my 360, turning on some Fire Bomber, and blasting some aliens.
Didn't this game also come out for the Gamecube? I know I had a Robotech game on the gamecube and this looks alot like my memory of it. Maybe I'm confused.
I remember this game I got it years ago for the GameCube and I never finished it. I got stuck on a escort mission I still have it. it's literally right behind me in a drawer with a lot of my old GameCube games. but I don't have my GameCube anymore I suppose I could buy it for the Xbox original. I read in one of the comments that it will work for the Xbox 360 and I'm sure now that I'm older I can easily beat it so maybe one day I'll pick it up again maybe I can get it on the PC
I bought the game when it was released but never watched the show I sadly never knew about it and I couldn't finish the game cause to me back then it was freaking hard I gave up on the mission where you're in the center of the city and fending off hordes of zentari
This game is Awesome... I played it on my original xbox when it came out, and didn't get passed the third level in 2004. This haunted me until 2010 when I decided to buy the game, after watching the series and realizing that I never beat the game. Robotech: Battlecry is a clunky game, but the controls are actually better than some newer games out today,
I like both Robotech and Macross. While it's bad that we don't get any of Macross games licensed here, It's a a darn shame that there aren't any new Robotech games... At least based off Shadow Chronicles or something...
Oh god I wanna play this. I've only seen the original japanese Macross and I've never watched the Robotech version, but I won't diss it. This game looks fantastic. I better check my local flea market top see if anyone who sells games there has it.
Yeah I love this game as well, though the absolutely horrible cats eye escort mission really leaves something to be desired. I’d love to see a updated remaster with a bit of extra content and that missions problems fixed.
Battlecry is best played on GameCube. The button layout of the GameCube controller is incredibly intuitive and it feels like Battlecry was made for it at times.
I have this on xbox1 and loved it. Just wish the levels were bigger and a LOT more enemies. It felt like the PSP version of Star Wars Battlefront. Just a small hand full of enemies at a time. Plus the, kill 3 enemies here, fly over there to kill 3 more, then kill 3 more right there.
This was my first PS2 game, the last christmas present from my dad, and the last game I played with him.
So yeah, I really LOVE this game.
This vid is 8 years old. Am I the only one why comes to 80’s Comics for old game reviews? I love it.
Even though I am an OG fan who already watched all these videos at the time they were released, when I am contemplating buying a new (old) game off Ebay, I always search for a Classic Game Room review first to see if it’s worth adding to my collection.
This is one game that should definitelh be remastered in hd and released in full on disc or as a dl game, i would definitely pick it up
ditto. =3 I have both Battlecry & Invasion on PS2. Would love to see this in HD. =3
Yeah definitely! Just fix that horrible cats eye escort mission.
Well buddy...
I can see them doing it now since they just released a HD remaster of the gba game here recently!
They have some of the original voice talent from the American release of Robotech and nothing beats being scolded by Lisa Hayes herself in a video game.
I still have the Skull One t-shirt that game with the deluxe version of this game. And all the art stuff. Christ, this game was awesome.
I bought the game just for the t-shirt.
yeah, the nice art cells, metal case, t-shirt, and character dog tags. My shirt hasn't held up so well though :X
Your Ben Dixon impersonation would be spot on. 😄

DarrylCross interesting take. Ya, for a 2002 release this looks really fucking good still.
Love this game. I actually won the Battlecry Tournament at Robocon 20 in LA. Good times, I still have my copies on Gamecube and Xbox.
This game was great! I wish I still had it but I let my friend borrow it...and we all know how that goes.
Loved playing this game all the time in high school, and I agree on Mark's statement that this is a game that services all fans of Robotech (Just hearing the opening theme again gets my heart pumping due to its tone). Hell, it was fun just to hear all the original voice actors reprise their roles again.
So what you are saying is, this guy is pretty much Star Scream.
its good to know someone is still reviewing ps2 games, i love cgr so much, so much
one of the best giant robot games ever right next to armored core and zone of the enders
I played this alot when I was younger, loved it! One of my favorite PS2 games of all time.
Me and My brother have never watched this anime before but our dad introduced us to the game, and me and bro were hooked and would play multiplayer all the time. It was a lot of great times, and this episode has got me nostalgic. Thanks CGR!
Long live Robotech, the greatest anime to ever grace the small screen.
awww man brings back memories glad you did this one : )
OMG, I remember getting this for christmas when I was 5!
This game is definitely a hidden gem. And you DO NOT have to be a robotech fan to enjoy this game. This game is great none the less.
This game was awesome I still remember getting it in the used section when I was 9
Was the gun sound effect off in this game or was the sound from the Macross movie different from the TV show? I first popped this game in I never quite got over the disappointment when gun didn't make that great "BrrrrrEEEEEEEE".
I have just got to play this, just started watching Robotech on Netflix it's so cool
This was my childhood. I loved this game.
I remember playing this with my brothers and having a all out blast with this game! :D
Humpiest Ranger Same here!
Wow this was released in 2002? Looks incredible.
This was my very first console game ever. I enjoyed it so much when I was only seven years old, and I have been unable to play it ever since. I'm planning to get myself a copy online and pop it into my Xbox 360.
I have this for the GC and someone just gave me a copy for the PS2. I think I shall compare the two! Woo hoo! lol Cool review, love your vids!
This game was a favorite of mine on GameCube!
I had no idea what robotech was when I had this, and still loved it.
good review. your max comment at the end was funny :) as a fan and a gamer, I'd give it a 7.5/10. And best thing about it, you can get it for cheap. I just wish I would of bought the special pack, and got the shirt
@botswanky - Are you referring to the stories from the FanFiction archives? Are you referring to eBook releases? Seriously, you've got my interest here. :-)
I played this in my childhood, I loved it.
If I am correct didn't the Gamecube version benefit from better controls?
I was looking for this game for a long time no I finally find it I found this game really good as a kid playing on ps2
I love this game!!! I still play the Xbox version on my Xbox 360.
Thank you for the review.
I play this so much on my amazing Original Xbox. Great gameplay, super fun, and I find it still a bit hard to control still. But overall it beats out, in my opinion, some games right now!

"Max Sterling for other reasons." Yep! I'll say.
Was a great game for me!!
just orderd this game off amazon haven't played it in years good thing it plays on the 360
This game was badass back in my day.
You ever import ACE:R on the PS3? Similar, but massively improved. Too bad about licencing issues with Harmony Gold with Macross...
I bought this for $2 a while ago, havent played it yet, but I might give it a shot sometime soon.
Bought this game at launch..don't regret it.
Going cel-shaded was 100% the right approach for this game. Made you feel like you were inside the actual freakin' cartoon, not just the world, which was pretty awesome.

I never seen the show but thanks to this game I really wanna see it.
watchcartoononline.com - can watch the whole series...
Awesome!! Thanks :D
This looks gorgeous.
I love you Classic Game Room.
Uhh I think I'm going to buy this game lol it looks really fun and graphics look dope too! Idk if I'm going to get it on GCN or PS2
Oh. My. Gawd. I remember playing this all the time as a kid. I was pretty bad at it, if I remember correctly.
I still play this on my PS2! Robotech rocks!
Oh man this game was awesome back in the day
Yet ANOTHER Kick-Ass review!!! Keep it up, Mark!!! Later...
This game was great. I still have my copy from 2003.
never heard of the robotech series but i loved playing this multiplayer on gc
I enjoyed this game. I even bought the collector's edition. It came with the game, an art dossier, pocket t-shirt with Skull-one on the back, and a dog tag with Jack Archer's info on it. Not bad considering I picked it up for only $50
I have this game on Nintendo Game Cube. I remember some of the missions were a chore to complete, but thanks to some cheats I finished the game.
I NEVER knew this was an anime. I really enjoyed this game though
same
I had this on the Xbox and thought it was pretty great. My friend and I would always have 1 on 1 battles with targeting turned off and only allowed in jet mode... needless to say, fights took like a million years, and were hyper fun.
@tubernery Which Ace Combat?
I loved the Robotech game, the ending was sad but acceptable indeed. I need to find this game again. Better than most mech games, I've played.
One of the first game I played as a kid.
Didn't this game also come out for the Gamecube? I know I had a Robotech game on the gamecube and this looks alot like my memory of it. Maybe I'm confused.
anyone else play the gamecube version and not know this game was on ps2?
stalectos yep, I owned this for the gamecube. Had a blast playing with my little brother lol
Yes... and I even have a ps2
Xbox
Me
I still have the PS2 version, and I play the shit out of it every chance I get. Love the series, love this game.
I remember this game I got it years ago for the GameCube and I never finished it. I got stuck on a escort mission I still have it. it's literally right behind me in a drawer with a lot of my old GameCube games. but I don't have my GameCube anymore I suppose I could buy it for the Xbox original. I've never seen Robotech or Macross (I hope to fix this one day), but I still had a lot of fun with this game.
I bought the game when it was released but never watched the show I sadly never knew about it and I couldn't finish the game cause to me back then it was freaking hard I gave up on the mission where you're in the center of the city and fending off hordes of zentari
I got stuck with some stages too, my cousin gave me some cheat codes to pass through some of the tough ones.
GoldRush071 Cats Eye. Hardest. Level. Ever.
Same here on all of that. I got stuck on where you had the defend the Macross itself.
@@Yakkahboo One of the worst escorts, just abuse chaff as much as possible :/
after all these years, i found out the name of this game!!
Awesome,love that show!!!!!!!!!
There's also an episode of the original Robotech named 'Blue Harvest' that's named for a really good Jeff Beck song.
Have this for ps2 was mad fun...
Well, this looks much better than Robotech Invasion.
Awesome man.
This game is Awesome... I played it on my original xbox when it came out, and didn't get passed the third level in 2004. This haunted me until 2010 when I decided to buy the game, after watching the series and realizing that I never beat the game. Robotech: Battlecry is a clunky game, but the controls are actually better than some newer games out today,
i had this game on gamecube, memories
loved this game, we could use another with some online support now.
I like both Robotech and Macross. While it's bad that we don't get any of Macross games licensed here, It's a a darn shame that there aren't any new Robotech games... At least based off Shadow Chronicles or something...
Looks kinda cool, might check it out, but I'm more of a Macross fan^_-
Oh god I wanna play this. I've only seen the original japanese Macross and I've never watched the Robotech version, but I won't diss it. This game looks fantastic. I better check my local flea market top see if anyone who sells games there has it.
Looks pretty good for a PS2 game. Never even heard of it.
I'm not the only one who's called the late great Carl Macek the godfather of anime!
Wheres a PS Vita review. I thought you would be all over that thing. Well I would love to see one. Hope you make one.
man i loved watching this series, but i never really got into the game though
it was pretty good and the ending was pretty emotional for me when i was 10 lol
I have this on xbox1 and loved it. Just wish the levels were bigger and a LOT more enemies. It felt like the PSP version of Star Wars Battlefront. Just a small hand full of enemies at a time. Plus the, kill 3 enemies here, fly over there to kill 3 more, then kill 3 more right there.
So Nintendo stealth dropped Robotech: The Macross saga on Switch. I hope they also add in Battlecry in the future.
im 16 but i always loved the show and this game
@MiguelDrakeford
Cam Clark also was the original voice for Leonardo the ninja turtle
"Quit fooling around and get back to work" I love how it has Lisa Hayes personality of riding the pilots ass's still :)
@uriel8 what happened to him?
What makes you think that?
