The Klim Minstral helps out quite a bit for cooling, as it is sealed on to the bottom of the laptop, and all it’s blower air goes directly through the Alienware 17. We use the high end spec models with the 4G raid 0 config for Forensic use. After trying various us coolers we settled on a slight under-volt and the Minstral sealed cooler. Keeps it “reasonably cool” and dependable - though the whine of the Minstral blower fans when rendering is absolutely annoying 🤣

*Great review GizmoSlipTech.* My only concern is that, *whether I should be getting with i9 or i7?* I am any which ways going with the *UHD screen, 32 GB Ram and 2080 Super.* My purpose, would be *Video & Photo editing* along with playing a bit of games. I had chosen this over *Dell XPS 17 and Razer Blade Pro 17* (It's too expensive with the 4K 120hz screen) Please advise.
We shouldn't just consider the 300Hz display for gaming, people should keep in mind that the UI on Windows will pretty much always run at 300fps as well, without dropping any frames. Also the 300Hz panel has a lower pixel response time.
Thanks for the review. I just received the M15 R3 with 2080 Super (Great Discount - It was cheaper to get this than configuring with a 2070). I will be running it through a number of tests and now having some numbers to compare them to. I do miss not having Windows hello and do not understand why it is not there.
@@bobbylow175 Hi, There was a promotion for this system which made it cheaper than configuring separately and I added my Veteran's discount as well. Unforunately that promotion was only a few days. You have to keep looking as the promotions change so often. Another thing to be aware of is the Rakuten discounts, which are rebates checks you are mailed. This percentage changes all the time as well.
@@petersonfamily6223 Thank you for your quick reply, much appreciated. I have looked into my local Australian website however they only have 15% discounts which isn't much considering the high price point. I already own an older 17 R3 which was the top of the line back few years ago but am looking for something smaller/lighter. Was hoping for the older 14" models but they no longer sell them. I also like the older models design with a more angular alien looking look.
Dell has a sale going on this laptop currently for $2250 (you probably already knew that). Would you consider buying this laptop for that price? With the top config like your test model, how would you compare it to the '21 Strix G17? I'm concerned about the thermals mainly affecting longevity on this one as compared to the G17, which you stated had the best thermals you'd ever seen in that kind of laptop.
This and the new G7 series are great gaming laptops, the thing is thoughtC with both the new Alienware r3 series, and the new Dell G7 series is that they both run super hot, but in the Alienware command center you can change the fan speed so that when you’re gaming fans are 100% and it cools it significantly, but it is kinda noisy if that’s something that’s bothers you, and I used throttlestop to underclock it so it wasn’t putting out so much power, my G7 was thermal throttling at 100° for warzone, and after I did this it runs around 75-80° consistently, and rarely goes above that for any game I play now
There is a problem on 6:31 , i don't know where did you take from that numbers but i have the ASUS Zephyrus G14 with the Ryzen 7 4800HS and on cinebench R20 gives 3975 score on multi-thread.. more than the i9 9880HK so...
Great review! I am on the fence on buying this model. Between 4k or FHD display. Would you recommend the 4k for for mainly RUclips, Movies, maybe some WOW, COD, some steam titles? I don't really e-Sports games. So would a 4k model be adequate.
Is 4k 60hz gaming experience on this laptop very terrible or manageable? Because, I'm just a causal gamer and I've heard that the display on the 300hz laptop is not good...
I don't understand people who complain about battery life in a gaming laptop... When the hell will you ever travel with your laptop, without a charger?
Thank you for this great review! For RPGs like Kingdom Come Deliverance or Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, should I go with FHD or UHD if using RTX 2070 Super?
I’m a big fan of your review videos. I’m looking for a good gaming lap top to stock trade on. I need it to be fast, high refresh rates and not overheat and slow down the performance while executing quick trades. And I need the number pad on the side and on not on top. Do you think the m17 with GeForce 2060 and the 300hz refresh rate would be a good choice to do such things on?
UK dell doesn't allow to configure the i9, rtx 2080 with the 300hz display. It's reserved for the 4k/60hz only. Only way to get the i9 with 300hz is to drop down to the 2070. I want the 2080 though! Are they region specific?
I’ve had this thing since Xmas and I love it I can run Red Dead II and RainbowSix|Seige at high frame rates and good graphics at the expense of a loud fan
Hey thanks for this video I love how informative it is. This really helped in my purchase decision of this laptop with a 2070 super and i7 10750h since I got it on sale. Everything is perfect, my only concern are the cpu temps which can spike up to 95C+ easily when under load. I wanted to know what's your opinion on running laptops at these temperatures for long periods of time and how it will have an impact on its longevity. Thanks.
@@tdias25 it’s not thaths max cpu temp normal temp are max85c. But u cann use it because cpu work on 100c without any problem. But its way better when he work litle lower.
I have that exact laptop and I love it. I have all this computing power and don't know what to do with it. Interested in learning different things I can use this beast for instead of just a few games and vr ocassionally.
@@vanshgupta3453 144hz 1080p or 60 Hz 4k hmmm. Tough choice... prolly should go with 4k for your preference but personally I would go 144hz with ultra setting graphics. 60hz on a 3000 pc is kinda silly in my opinion, not like u can change the screen.
Got an avg of 117fps (FarCry5 on Ultra) the other day with the GE66 Raider(2070 Super) and it costs considerably less than anything in its class Also cpu temps rarely ever go above 90 during gaming. Price per performance value has to be the best this year by far
Loook at those temps 😂 I’m struggling with hitting 95c while gaming and looking everywhere on the web as to why or if it is just me. What do we need to do to lower these temps or is this just how they perform regardless.
Wow, thanks for commenting! I appreciate your reviews and think they’re great! Congrats on 50k subs! I literally laughed out loud when I saw the MicroSD slot, not kidding lol.
I’m not sure about new M15 R3. It does make me curious if they can cool the components as well, though I doubt it in a 15” chassis. The m17 R3 is already riding that thermal limit.
very interesting that when u've made stress test u written down max temp for cpu 91 degrees and when you show videos from games temp is around 98 degrees and i guess it's throttling as hell.
First con I noticed... keyboard RGB static mode (not flashing) is one color (cyan) I know this is just a line or two of code to fix. So I'm hoping they update the alien commander and give me full control of the RGB.
I agree with you %100 on the 144hz. It's really a generation gap. Younger buyers like 300hz because the professional gamers they watch online. Us old guys take the 144hz gsync all day.
Hello ! Thank you for so nice review! Before making up my mind on this one, II'd like to know, did you get any issue with Alienware command center, for changing rgb keybord lights colors or ajusting fan power ?
Thinking about getting a good laptop for college and I want one that will last a while. I was going to get a MacBook Pro but it’s overpriced as hell, so maybe if I get an Alienware would it be better?
Me seeing this 6 months after I bought my 16inch MacBook Pro 🤧 only downside for me is how different it is compared to windows cause growing up schools only got windows, but for sure my next laptop finna be Alienware
@GizmoSlipTech Any chance you're going to be doing an m15 r3 review or have looked at it and can comment on how it stacks up against the razer blade 15 advanced? Good review mate
Duke Shibalyer Amazing! mine was the 1800 dollar version runs any game some games even on ultra. The one bad thing is battery life is about 1hr and 30min and that's with just doing homework and web browsing/youtube. so don't expect battery to be good. If you are just going to play games i say build a pc you can build like the same thing i have in pc form for like 1300 dollars probably, but if you want something for school and games it's amazing.
Would you recommend this laptop for Minecraft with added mods? I don’t know much about laptops though I just would like one that would have little lag and fun smoothly :)
I love the detail of the review, man. This is what somr of us like to do while we wait for our pcs to ship haha One thing though, why does everybody pretend like battery life matters while gaming? With laptops like this, definitely manageable but you take a BIG performance hit if you're plugged in! Battery mode is for everything else where you don't need full horsepower
Late to the party but I have the i9 2080 super and you can change it to only 60hz but haven't tried it out on battery to check for a difference in longevity.
I have the same exact rig, except with the 4k screen and I'm only hitting 9500 on timespy. Is that because of my resolution? Edit: just undervolted the cpu -110 and OCd the gpu slightly and just landed a 9915 so I'm atleast a bit closer to hitting over 10k now.
Unfortunately, the Thunderbolt 3 port does not support eGPU enclosures, and when you add the Alienware Graphics Amplifier to be able to add a GPU it will disable the onboard RTX 2070 Super. This is disappointing because doing 3D rendering, having an extra GPU and it's cores would have made this a very nice graphics workstation. I was told by Dell support that this would not be the case, and that the T3 port would support eGPU and I found out the hard way that it will not. Battery life is abysmal, which is to be expected but under moderate use it's about 1 hour. The RTX 2080 Super option, I was told by dell online, is not the MAX-Q, but comparing rendering benchmarks, for example of that card (Octanebench of 333) vs the RTX 2070 Super (Octanebench of 320), is not going to be worth the extra $300 over the price of the RTX 2070 Super. Having been able to have a second RTX 2070 Super would have allowed a very economical way to have performance rivaling the RTX 2080 Ti using applications that leverage NVIDIA cuda cores.
Hey man, a very big thanks to you for making such a good and to the point review, it was really helpful, now i can buy this beasty without thinking anything more. Btw the outro is a cool one, may I know the name of the music and artist?
I got the M17 R3 in bestbuy. BUT! I noticed my display is a bit too yellow, night light is off. I looked it up and it is some dell tech called Eyesafe. I don't like it much since it decreases blue light. Does your laptop have this display yellowish color?
Oh wow, that's a really neat laptop, but seeing 90c+ CPU temps during CS:GO gameplay looks scary. How many hours can a laptop run at 90c+ before it starts wearing out?
They are very similar if both have gsync, since neither will have Optimus. You need to get the non-gsync 144 hz version if you want optimus for battery life.

*Great review GizmoSlipTech.* My only concern is that, *whether I should be getting with i9 or i7?* I am any which ways going with the *UHD screen, 32 GB Ram and 2080 Super.* My purpose, would be *Video & Photo editing* along with playing a bit of games.
I had chosen this over *Dell XPS 17 and Razer Blade Pro 17* (It's too expensive with the 4K 120hz screen)
Please advise.
Hi, don't mind sharing how did you get the discount? Was it on sales at the Dell website?
Just ordered mine this morning can't wait
How is it?
@@pumpkinthethird Its worth the money i've put into, great performances on my games i recommend it 👍

He probably tested it again and again then averaged it
Great review! I am on the fence on buying this model. Between 4k or FHD display. Would you recommend the 4k for for mainly RUclips, Movies, maybe some WOW, COD, some steam titles? I don't really e-Sports games. So would a 4k model be adequate.
i got m15 r3 with rtx 2070, its a masterpiece
Feeling the same way with mine lol.
How much did it cost?
@@prathamkadam1505 just bought my r3 for 3k gbp

Do you prefer Alienware in white or black?
Don’t matter what you got 🤩they all have unique designs!
Is 4k 60hz gaming experience on this laptop very terrible or manageable? Because, I'm just a causal gamer and I've heard that the display on the 300hz laptop is not good...
Great review! Thanks for all the info my man!! ☺️
I don't understand people who complain about battery life in a gaming laptop... When the hell will you ever travel with your laptop, without a charger?
Hey gismo should I buy this rtx 2080s r3 m17 or rtx 3070 r4 m17. Pls replay.
Just got this model :D I cant wait to see what it can do.
I don’t see why not, should be a solid machine.
How’s the material finish on the laptop? I heard that the R3 versions have a special coating to prevent the surface from wear and yellowing.
R2 vs R3
Clear Coat painting
Better thermals
Any other change? (Of course, other than gpu or cpu variations)
300Hz screen / Max-P instead of Max-Q
@@12pure what is max p?
UK dell doesn't allow to configure the i9, rtx 2080 with the 300hz display. It's reserved for the 4k/60hz only. Only way to get the i9 with 300hz is to drop down to the 2070. I want the 2080 though! Are they region specific?

Hey thanks for this video I love how informative it is. This really helped in my purchase decision of this laptop with a 2070 super and i7 10750h since I got it on sale. Everything is perfect, my only concern are the cpu temps which can spike up to 95C+ easily when under load. I wanted to know what's your opinion on running laptops at these temperatures for long periods of time and how it will have an impact on its longevity. Thanks.
my same thoughts, is it normal to play at almost 100 degrees?
@@tdias25 it’s not thaths max cpu temp normal temp are max85c. But u cann use it because cpu work on 100c without any problem. But its way better when he work litle lower.
No one can resist this Laptop magnetic beauty and powers
I have that exact laptop and I love it. I have all this computing power and don't know what to do with it. Interested in learning different things I can use this beast for instead of just a few games and vr ocassionally.
I'm using this laptop with exact same configuration for viewing this video. Like he said this is a beast for gaming.
Do I go with 300hz display or 4k 60 as I mostly play single player story games
@@vanshgupta3453 144hz 1080p or 60 Hz 4k hmmm. Tough choice... prolly should go with 4k for your preference but personally I would go 144hz with ultra setting graphics. 60hz on a 3000 pc is kinda silly in my opinion, not like u can change the screen.
Got an avg of 117fps (FarCry5 on Ultra) the other day with the GE66 Raider(2070 Super) and it costs considerably less than anything in its class
Also cpu temps rarely ever go above 90 during gaming. Price per performance value has to be the best this year by far
Loook at those temps 😂 I’m struggling with hitting 95c while gaming and looking everywhere on the web as to why or if it is just me. What do we need to do to lower these temps or is this just how they perform regardless.
Is the 2080 graphics card in this one the same as the one in the Alienware Area-50m R2?
the model you have has it as well. Dell has confirmed. that if you change the hz to 60hz than you can take advantage of the Optimus
Hi, Area 51 M R1 1660 ti , i9-9900 is it worth for 1300$??? Appreciate your opinion..
Great review mate ! Looks very tempting. Cooling doesn't seem too bad. MicroSD? What is the point of that though
Wow, thanks for commenting! I appreciate your reviews and think they’re great! Congrats on 50k subs! I literally laughed out loud when I saw the MicroSD slot, not kidding lol.
GizmoSlipTech Thanks, that means a lot to me 👍 Any idea how the m15 r3 gets on ? Does it have the same 100w PL1 on its i9 ? Keep up the good work !
I’m not sure about new M15 R3. It does make me curious if they can cool the components as well, though I doubt it in a 15” chassis. The m17 R3 is already riding that thermal limit.
@@GizmoSlipTech yeah, that's what I thought. Just about to look at the GE66, certainly has plenty of RGB bling!
very interesting that when u've made stress test u written down max temp for cpu 91 degrees and when you show videos from games temp is around 98 degrees and i guess it's throttling as hell.
Maybe if you repaste it with liquid metal thermal paste; the temperature will be better.
I wanted this... until the 3000s were revealed. Hopefully they will be cheaper soon now?
i doubt it because rtx 3000 laptops are still awhile away
It took mine a month to get here but well worth the wait!

First con I noticed... keyboard RGB static mode (not flashing) is one color (cyan)
I know this is just a line or two of code to fix. So I'm hoping they update the alien commander and give me full control of the RGB.
Hey Brother, thanks for the video, got some things to check with you, under the device manager, does it only shows 1 display adapter?
Great review! What was your opinion on the speakers? I was wondering if they are any different than the R3 15? Thank you for letting me know :)

This is probably The Best laptop you can buy under 4200$ btw Nice review keep it up And get to 200k subs by the end of the month you deserve it
Thanks for the thoughtful comment!
Google " eluktronics laptops" you'll probably change that thought
@@wesleyfurnish8228 I owned the Max 17 and the screen is shit. It had horrible backlight bleed.
Wesley Furnish well this one is running higher wattage than the eluktronics machine, I don’t see how it could be better other than liquid metal tim.
I agree with you %100 on the 144hz. It's really a generation gap. Younger buyers like 300hz because the professional gamers they watch online. Us old guys take the 144hz gsync all day.
which laptop in your opinion is the best for gaming under 2k?
Hello ! Thank you for so nice review! Before making up my mind on this one, II'd like to know, did you get any issue with Alienware command center, for changing rgb keybord lights colors or ajusting fan power ?
is it better than msi gs66 stealth in thermal and long term gaming use ???
Thinking about getting a good laptop for college and I want one that will last a while. I was going to get a MacBook Pro but it’s overpriced as hell, so maybe if I get an Alienware would it be better?
Me seeing this 6 months after I bought my 16inch MacBook Pro 🤧 only downside for me is how different it is compared to windows cause growing up schools only got windows, but for sure my next laptop finna be Alienware
Is the gpu & cpu upgradable like the Area 51 & clevo laptops?
@GizmoSlipTech Any chance you're going to be doing an m15 r3 review or have looked at it and can comment on how it stacks up against the razer blade 15 advanced? Good review mate
I might sometime in the future here. No promises though. And thanks!
So awesome, i got the m15 2060 and it arrives tomorrow :)))
Is it good?
Duke Shibalyer Amazing! mine was the 1800 dollar version runs any game some games even on ultra. The one bad thing is battery life is about 1hr and 30min and that's with just doing homework and web browsing/youtube. so don't expect battery to be good. If you are just going to play games i say build a pc you can build like the same thing i have in pc form for like 1300 dollars probably, but if you want something for school and games it's amazing.
@@tallbutshort1124 Thank you so much
Nice review. Is it hard for repasting this machine?
Would you recommend this laptop for Minecraft with added mods? I don’t know much about laptops though I just would like one that would have little lag and fun smoothly :)
This thing is so overkill for modded Minecraft
I love the detail of the review, man. This is what somr of us like to do while we wait for our pcs to ship haha
One thing though, why does everybody pretend like battery life matters while gaming? With laptops like this, definitely manageable but you take a BIG performance hit if you're plugged in! Battery mode is for everything else where you don't need full horsepower
Can you try manually dropping it down to 60hz it works on the 2070 with 300hz please try and let us know we all asking
I can do that too, i have a 2070 super
@@zeppelin1ization yes surely it should work on the 2080 model Gizmosliptech please test
Late to the party but I have the i9 2080 super and you can change it to only 60hz but haven't tried it out on battery to check for a difference in longevity.
When you run the benchmarks, are you running at 1080p max/extreme settings? Any overclocking/undervolting or just as is? Thanks, man!
Unfortunately, the Thunderbolt 3 port does not support eGPU enclosures, and when you add the Alienware Graphics Amplifier to be able to add a
GPU it will disable the onboard RTX 2070 Super. This is disappointing because doing 3D rendering, having an extra GPU and it's cores would
have made this a very nice graphics workstation. I was told by Dell support that this would not be the case, and that the T3 port would
support eGPU and I found out the hard way that it will not. Battery life is abysmal, which is to be expected but under moderate use it's about 1
hour.
I looked at the reviews on best buy and they say their laptop broke within a few months
Can you please tell me the difference between 144hz gsync display Vs 300hz non gsync display
Which one should I buy
They are very similar if both have gsync, since neither will have Optimus. You need to get the non-gsync 144 hz version if you want optimus for battery life.
Saw your first video and gave a like also subscribe to it really nice video bro, kindly tell me that is there any thermal throttling because previously I saw that, and fps drops drastically, please let me know if I should go with it or not
I only do single player games rather than online games so should I go with 144 hz display or 4k display
Great stuff. Just ordered with 300hz screen. Can you recommend a short 42mm m.2 drive
what do you think about it?
