    Putting the knobs in the same place is useless when parts have tolerances. The pots in each aren't the same spec so they will not produce the same tone at the same position. People need to understand this already.

    • @benloveday6113
      @benloveday6113 2 года назад +3

      It would be marginal at best. Typical components have about a 20% tolerance, so over the full range the difference would be quite small. I think it’s a good enough comparison without measuring the pot values.

    It sounded like you had a blanket over your amp, until you switched the HP switch. Then it sounded much better. They both sounded so similar, I wouldn't fork out the extra for the OCD. I'd go with the Joyo. ✌️🇦🇺

    I don’t like my Joyo Ulimate Drive. It’s really muddy. Much better if you want a good cheap clone of the OCD is the Mooer Hustle Drive.

    Some of the Joyo UD's have a Germanium Diode in D2 that was put in reverse order due to the incorrect silk screen orientation printed on the circuit board.. Around the year 2010.
    This gives slightly asymmetrical positive MOSFET clipping and negative (MOSFET + Ge) clipping and muddy sound.
    Look up info about it, open it up and see if 2010 is printed on your board.

  • @plan9622
    @plan9622 Месяц назад

    Id say that if you don't adjust the knobs identically you can get it very close. All the demos I see the person doing the demo almost always mirrors the knobs which is annoying.
    Use the tone control!? Also guitars pickups amps vary as well. Joyo pedals are inexpensive but they do a good job of mimicking the pedals they are based on *if tweaked properly. The same thing with Behringer. Watch Josh Scott of JHS pedals RUclips (what's the deal with Behringer pedals)
    They do blind tests and most of the monkeys can't tell the difference.

    I have both and used the OCD for a light overdrive in front of my Plexi for the excellent touch response it has and awesome hair it puts on the sound - albeit, its going through a 50 watt Marshall and I can only play at 3.5/4 volume in band rehearsal because its so damn loud - but I love it. I got a UD to replicate my OCD settings and after sometime tweaking and A/B to match sound. I'll be damned, I can get the same sound and response from the UD - just took some time. Matching pot setting is useless. I can now use my OCD for all its overdrive/distortion glory. I play clean, loud and with a little hair on my tone for my main sound. Use the OCD for awesome 70/80s classic rock and stack the two with a spark clean drive and analog delay get 80's metal sonic heaven.

  • @gerardoromano3436
    @gerardoromano3436 Год назад +1

    Hi, that clean sound lacks a lot of trebble to begin with, like you set the amp with the trebble control all the way back at 1 (If this is a real Fender amp) or 0 if it´s an emulation or something. That alone makes the test useless. Who plays a clean tone so dark, you won´t cut in a mix even if you´re the only player in the band. Anybody thinks can make a demo of anything in the guitar world. Learn to eq your gear then make a proper A vs B test

      @@saroly16 It isn't a metal distortion. A demon head or any dark imagery on an OD is trying too hard IMO. The Joyo is a rough copy of the v1.4, pull the diode and it's a v1.3. The thing is the UD often had the diode installed backwards, an easy fix but a necessary fix nonetheless.

    The fact is that the Chinese companies simply copy the circuitry. And I guess when it comes to such a ubiquitous pedal as an overdrive, so long as you know what style you like, you're likely to find a Chinese variant that suits.
    And the old story as far as I'm concerned, we all need to factor in the rest of our gear & how it's used (band/home/recording etc) so the difference is likely neither here, nor there.
    That said I don't look at Chinese variants, at least not yet, and am still happy to save as required and pay more for a pedal I perceive is better, both in the tone I'm looking for and the overall build.
    Still I get why there's been this massive rise in Chinese pedals in recent years. The quality of the known brands appears fine generally and their replications are largely pretty good.
    But, they don't do anything unique & definitely not groundbreaking (not many pedals are). So, whilst boutique builders will put considerable time into R&D (which in itself costs), these sorts of companies basically just pump out low cost clones.
    Each to their own.
    Another top vid and thoughts go out to you for your original guitar teacher. Stay strong to all concerned.

    The only differences are that the OCD has a different case and is around €150 more expensive than the Ultimate Drive. In terms of sound, these two are completely identical. So why buy the expensive one when you can get a cheaper one that is equivalent or identical??? The JoJo is also available as a Harley Benton - Ultimate Drive at Thomann
