Rob you are awesome just so you know.....been watching a long time....will be ordering a Rabea Sig Chapman Baritone....and question please.....I have an EVH LBXii 15 watt head and 1x12 EVH cab....dude I really need a Tubescreamer or no??? I have one, mini ibanez, but the amp has so much gain I figure I don't need it....sounds good but wondering your opinion on the "Use" for one considering the amount of gain in the amp?
Definitely going to pick up a Ultimate Drive. What I here is it’s an OCD clone. Metallica’s Garage Days was the first album of them I ever heard, and introduced me to palm muting. I had no idea a guitar could do that as a puck rock skateboard kid of the 1980’s. Ha! Cheer Rob!
Thanks Rob, I had this pedal years ago, didnt know what to do with it, this vid made me buy one again for solo lead tone, bought Saphue clone ( 18€s!)cause some of the Joyos have asymmetric clipping by mistake...still doesnt sound bad...😎😎
used to have this young for dark jazz, getting one again: some pedals arent simple, like my SIMBLE, returned 2 back in time, now i have 3 and its always on...!!!
Harley Benton is the house brand from Thomann, so the FJ-02 from Joyo Audio is now available as the ultimate drive from Harley Benton. This pedal sounds good, like a lot of other pedals from Joyo Audio. This is a cheap pedal in high quality and with useful sounds for blues and rock. I like distortion and overdrive pedals and I think this is the next in my collection...
I am consistently astounded by how great Harley Benton gear is. I have their Tele clone and that pedal power thing and both are so good for the price. Not sure how they do it tbh.
No r&d costs, clone someone elses product, mass produce in enormous quantities in China, let customers find the design flaws that r&d staff would've caught (witness the number of mk2/3 product revisions). Innovation takes expensive expertise, cloning someone else's is dirt cheap.
I'm convinced that in the world of affordable pedals and amps it's nearly impossible to beat Joyo. Their new R Series is really good. I've got their 10 band EQ and the UZI distortion and they both are great pedals that left me with cash in my pocket.
HB Ultimate drive is a rebranded Joyo Ultimate drive which in turn is a Fulltone OCD clone if iam not mistaken. Rob check out the Joyo US dream it's a Suhr riot clone!
Very interest. These deep insights into the Chappers tonal are extremely helpful. Even if you don’t want to buy those pedals, the same thought process can be applied elsewhere
Hi Rob, I have the ultimate drive pedal and I agree for the money great sounding pedal.Only one thing happens now and again, I have a spinal tap moment picking up local radio on it, have you had this happen to you? Thanks for the great video.
Harley Benton never ceases to amaze. They are offering stuff that's great for the consumer. While not top of the line gear, they are fairly decent products, but the main point here is that HB offer those decent products at price points significantly lower than similar quality gear.
Great demo! I have done three (!!) videos about the Extreme Metal pedal. For instance I tried to make it sound like a Boss HM-2. It failed completely. Mainly since it so scooped in it's voicing.
The ultimate drive got that "plexi bite" but also could be into Tube screamer-like if adjusted. The sounds of it is just awesome Rob. The xtreme metal got that "old-school 'ish Metallica tone.I appreciated hearing how you tweaked/cheated the eq to get as close as possible than their "tone". And you combined the both of "Ultimate drive" with Xtreme metal that sound damn good together. I myself have the "Fame Tube Steamer" (bought 15€). It's a bargain to me. Without talking about all those reissues pedals I have (Marshall drive master). Cherry on the cake? I have the Empress Heavy. All that comibned together and sent in Marshall DSL5c. I let you imagine what type of wide musical genres I can go from and end up to. COngrats for your shootout. You still rule Rob :) Cheers from Belgium. 🤟🤟
9:20 Every time i hear that White Dove riff, i always think back to the videos of yall recording Catalyst and Centered and One and the shenanigans that ensued. I want to say there's a video of you, Bea, and Dave doing the gang vocals for White Dove and something really funny happened (One of your GVs was "White Dave" or something like that), but i can't find it for the life of me
What do u think the lightest Chapman guitar is ? How much does it weigh ? Weight is prob the most Important factor to me. Anything over 7 lb’s i usually stay away from.
If it's the same as Joyo. Then would Joyo still continue making these pedals? Because it's pointless making 2 of the same pedals and brand them different.
@Mark Seymour so thomann cant design their own pedals. They just became lazy and just copy an existing pedal and slap their brand because they wanted to. 😆😆😆. Yeah i totally get the point. 🤣🤣🤣
@Mark Seymour you just answered my question why would i then continue on to ask the same question. 😆 Ps. We all know thomann can do better than this. 😆
For heavy metal and its subgenres, extreme metal is better. Nevertheless, if you need a really great tug and for whom Extreme Metal has too much tug, you should reach for the Ultimate Drive. I have both.
Rob, you being the youtube celebrity that you are, you should reach out to someone who ones a guitar company and design a headless guitar with all its headless guitar functionality, but ask them to put a piece of wood before the first fret (lets call it a headstock) so you have a place to put a brand logo on.
Actually it can. I had one for a while, and it happily ran at 18v without any damage - was on my board at 18v for about a year before I replaced it - and gets all the expected headroom advantages from running at 18v. Incidentally, it's cloning v3 of the OCD, so it won't be quite the same as other versions.
@@achanonymous When you plug an 18v power supply and it smokes the insides on two in a row, I’d say that it can’t run on 18v. Both of mine were the Joyo brand. Idk if that makes a difference or not but the two I personally fried were because I tried running them on 18v. The third ran without issue on 9v before I replaced it with an EHX OD Glove (also an OCD clone), which has an internal 9v-18v switch inside that only requires the pedal to be powered with a 9v.
@@MathewsGuitarWorks mine was joyo. I guess I might have just got lucky and got one that had components within the right tolerance range for it to work at 18v. Let's change it to "it might work and sound great, but it might also kill it. Try it at your own risk"
Is it that ’kids’ nowadays have never experienced what true overdrive is, such that they would fold to distortion pedals, and stating that od is worse as the pedals sound worse. Od pedals are actually distortion pedals. I’m not hating on pedals, but u feel the drive should come from the tubes, but sure some signal shaping can take aplace pre preamp and in the loop, but ’just add tubes’ was the point. Just thoughts, great shit you sticking to your roots here on youtube, great content(knowing you a businessman nowadays also)

This was a swell and an uplifting video, thank you rob , i was feeling down.

May have been said already but the Ultimate OD is a Joyo pedal. I have had this for years. HB could have at least changed the graphics..🤣👍🇦🇺
That creeping death riff🤟
Abomination, Metal Pedal and a Headless Guitar. There has to be a song or horror movie in there. Great review Rob. Cheers.
Nice video. Had the Joyo UD for years ( same pedal as HB version) and no complaints.. 👍🤣
I got one of those Ultimate Drives for a friend, and it's actually pretty impressive.

Is extreme metal a preamp? or just a distortion pedal Im really confused.

The most interesting bit is that MY Ultimate Drive is branded Joyo. I wonder if HB have improved it.

Was there a suggestion that headless could provide tuning stability?

That drive looks a lot like the JOYO one that Dan Patlansky uses.
It is. The Ultimate Dr is simply an Fulltone OCD clone that can’t be run at 18v. The EHX OD Glove is a better OCD imo.
I have a pedal just like the HB extreme metal but instead it has JOYO on it. Odd
Man if that guitar had a headstock i would really dig it!!
