    Agree with your points. What really sold me on C&C was that I needed fewer house rules for it than for any other game/system yet could play anything with it.

      Same here. I was hacking the hell out of 5e. For C&C I have a list of like four house rules. Lol!

    I would think it's so dense on the history of the world because Stephen Chenault is a huge history nut with a master's degree in history.

    • @DungeonMusings

      That would make sense. It is dense, but very well interconnected.

    Thanks for the overview. C&C looks like a pretty fun system. I started watching your channel specifically because you were playing AD&D 2e, my favorite fantasy RPG, but I've enjoyed getting to see the other systems you've played along the way. I'm especially excited to see you've started a Champions campaign - Champions is my favorite game ever, even though it's been so long since I've played that I couldn't create a character if my life depended on it! Keep up the great work, I love the channel and all the games.

    The Aihrde Setting is a fabulous setting. It's rich in detail and I suggest you look into running a campaign in that world. YES, it is very complex, however, it is a well thought out realm in which to adventure. There is also a recent campaign setting published for Castles and Crusades based on Gary Gygax's campaign setting. The first book, which was on Kickstarter is called Castle ZaGyG. Set in Yggsburgh's, A setting in Gary Gygax's world. Authorized by the Gygax Estate.

    Bought their adventure/setting "Free City of Eskadia" and cant wait to see how it reads.

    I’ve been running C&C for my fantasy setting. Gary Gygax said it’s the best successor to AD&D 1e. That was food enough for me to use it!

    Great overview buddy. I bought a ton of cnc stuff over covid. Haven’t had a chance to read it in depth yet. Also I’m
    Starting up a 2e game so I’ll be using stuff from your review and the books in the game. Thanks a lot!

    I think you've sold me on buying this one. I like the way the class system works, and that characters have a few abilities. I find that OSR games have weaker progression, and this seems a lot better.
    I would probably hack the base mechanic to make it a bit smoother. I'd just steal advantage from 5e, and give that to prime attributes. Change the target number to a base of 15, and use the ICRPG difficulty rules.

    Thanks for the overview and your enthusiasm for this neat D20 game. The setting looks very good, and wondered if the way to understand it was to play out that adventure book, building knowledge as you play? Certaionly looks worth the investment of time!

    • @DungeonMusings
      @DungeonMusings  2 года назад +1

      I think one way to dive in would be to use one of the pre-gen adventures (like Shadow of Aufstrang, maybe) and then reference the World of Aihrde and/or the Player's Guide to Aihrde, as you go.

    Kevin if you can find them, pick up the old issues of TLG's Crusader magazine. Some of the old issues contain hybrid classes, which are essentially mult-classes with only one xp chart etc, makes things a lot easier than multi-classing. They might be on drive thru

    Great overview. Have bought the three core books of C&C and look forward to trying it. Had some recent gripes with PF2, probably due to my age and preference for OSE style of games, mainly because how cumbersome the engine gets in higher level (tracking conditions and the lenghty / swingy combats) and the way they handle encounter balance and wounds (always in full health etc. pr. encounter). I will try PF2 without proficiency levels and tweak wound healing / 'regeneration' a bit and see how that feels. But at the moment I am doing Warhammer 4th edition. Basically PF2 made me want to go grim dark and low fantasy. C&C sounds much closer to what I like and think I can see the reason why you have switched regards from Denmark

    I bought the 3 main books figuring I could just use my old 1e/2e adventures/worlds/additional monsters (which I totally could) AND THEN proceeded to buy everything else.... I thought I'd be thrifty but they sucked me back in with all the cool Airde flavor.

    Great Video!!! Could you tell me could this be played solo? Was looking into D100 or Four Against Darkness but this sounds like it could be great fun solo if it is possible.

    • @DungeonMusings
      @DungeonMusings  Год назад

      Thanks, Barnabas! I think if you were to play solo (one player, one CK/DM), you would need to make use of some of the narrative metacurrency options from the Castle Keeper's Guide and/or some support NPCs, to help out PCs at lower levels. You could also have folks play more than one character, to mitigate against the danger of playing a solo character.
      While there are many modern innovations in the game, at its core, it still plays very much like AD&D (1e/2e) and D&D 3/3.5, and has the same fundamental issues when combat breaks out with a smaller party (that players can go down quick and the danger of fights can escalate quickly if PCs find themselves unexpectedly outnumbered).
      I hope this helps and thanks, again, for the kind words!

    Love your content. I've taken some inspiration as to your DMing style into my own games. Night Below is my favorite campaign. I've played only AD&D 2e only off and on for the last 30 years or so. Recently started up a new game and group using Myth & Magic. Have you tried that system yet? I know the kickstarter pissed everyone off that donated but the system so far seems pretty solid even though there isn't any support for it. Seems like they took a lot of inspiration from C&C, PF 1e and sprinkled in some 5E in there. Would love to hear your thoughts on that!

    The host looks kinda like SNL alum Jason Sudeikis and talks/sounds kinda like Robert Downey Jr. Anyone else notice that? I'm brand new to C&C. Haven't even played it yet, but I have the Player's Handbook and Monsters & Trea$ure$ books (older versions;2005?). Can anyone tell me if the game/rules mechanics are similar to D&D 3.5 or Pathfinder, and how C&C compares to those two? Thanks.
