Got 16 classics with three Norton Commando's all completely restored, ready to ride.Great video's Ken .Keep them coming.Definitely gotta make it up to the museum soon!!
Still got mine after 29 years and I ride it regularly and she never fails to make me smile.
Are they reliable?
My dad bought one brand new. I remember riding on the gas tank when I was just a baby. Much respect to you and your family stay safe
If this bike was in classic black with gold trim, it would be my dream motorcycle. Nortons are beautiful and this one looks like it may be one of the best left.
There are a lot of people in England who think that this is the best British bike - even among the hallowed Vincents and Broughs which are now out of most people's pockets. Sure they have idiosyncrasies but they are a much more usable bike and turn just as many heads.
I have for a long time thought that the Commando engine mounts were the inspiration for the FXR mounts - it's nice to hear someone else say it. Just one thing though - it sounded like you said that originally the Commando had a single carb, when they had twin Amals which were as you said an absolute bugger to keep in tune and the same goes for Triumphs. So many people like to fit a single carb and it doesn't really detract from overall performance - Mikuni has just about perfected slide carbs, there was a manufacturer called Gardener that made flat slide carbs back in the day which were better than Amals.
As for your comments about the electrics, well now you know why (Joe) Lucas was called the 'Prince of Darkness'. At the age of 19, in 1979 I bought an 850 Electric Start Interstate Commando that I still think of as my best 'toy' ever..... Black and Gold with the biggest fuel tank !
It is nice. Love the old ones
Love the sound
An original Norton commando AND an original 03 CR250 in the same friggin week?! Holy moley Kaplan what a week! Keep em coming, can't believe this!
Wow!now that is 1 fine piece of machinery right there.thanks for all these great videos .i look forward to seeing what you guys come out with.that bike sounds sweet!
When I was a kid there was a Norton/Triumph shop by the next town over from me. I used to go by there and just look through their front window display. Always wanted a Norton. My dream bike….
Nice clean machine
hey guys we are in shock a 73 commando oil tight and everything works its immaculate and sounds good and looks good sayin it looks good is insult to this bike its wonderfull
Just a solid, sweet piece of machinery.👍🇱🇷
Wow. Gorgeous. So lucky . That is a great British icon right there.
thank you for this. my favorite motorcycle other than the 750 Triumph that I owned. gorgeous.
Nice to see a commando being ridden , ps they'll take a lot more , thanks for the great video pal 👌
I remember I think they did a jubilee version of the commando 750 sliver and red beautiful, I think it was called the fastback ,but that yellow paint scheme really stands out , sounds sweet 👍
Yep, that yellow is the biz.
The Jubilee was a 1977 version of a triumph Bonneville to comemorate the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II..... the fastback was a name given to a late sixties, early seventies Norton commando.
Such an exciting, charismatic motorcycle - up there with the best of them . . That sound - woooahhh . . .
I bought one in '84 for 800 bucks and rode it home. Cool bike and the only bike I regret selling in '90 for two grand. Doh!
Shifter on the right, rear brake on the left, had a BSA 68 Firebird, same display
One beautiful machines 😎😎😎😎😎
Sound fantastic
In 1970 Cycle magazine tested six of the best known high displacement bikes of that time. In the 1/4 mile acceleration test the 750 Commando beat them all including the Honda CB750 and the Kawasaki H1 Mach III.
I love old school bikes, they had style and looked cool😎😎😎😎😎
they sound like a rattle trap to me im sure thats just the way they sound
Originally this NORTON did not have rear view mirrors ?
My 72 hi rider runs perfectly wouldn’t trade it for any new bike. 5k mi
Just a few things, the side stand breaking issue was with 750’s fixed on 850. The single carb kills the top end performance, EVERY part is available from Andover Norton and others. The rear grab rail is correct for 850, the black barrels are not original, came silver from Norton because Combat’s were black and they did not want the association Nice bike
Yup, everything you said is correct. The single Mikuni is nice, but at the expense of performance. Big fan of Andover Norton, just received another package of parts from them. Although anyone can paint their cylinders black and many do just because it looks better, there are other ways to tell if it's an actual combat engine.
That's a very nice bike,I owned a 1971 Norton commando roadster twin amel carbs smaller fiberglass tank ,65hp stock, compared to 60hp.That bike hauled a$$ the only problem with the bike was the primary case had only one holding the primary case on, it would come loose and was not a good thing, also those motors vibrate real hard, carrying motor mount bolts, was a normal thing. It's the one that got away!God bless you and your family! PS.tell jr.kick some a$$ racing that KX500...
I think you missed your calling as a movie star 😁, Easy rider etc ! 👍
Just watched some more of your videos. Your enthusiasm and passion for motorcycles deserves a museum of it’s own. I wish I had a fraction of your knowledge. That’s a great thing you do. So had to subscribe. 👍 Have you got anything on the Suzuki GS650G katana. I have 2. My favourite bikes. Keep up with what you do.
Thank you Carl! I worked for Suzuki on and off through high school for 4 years 82 to 88. I always and still love all the katana's but they are VERY RARE around here most got crashed or ruined...if I can get one ill do a video on then !! Thank you for your kind words it made my day. God Bless.
@@KaplanCycles no sir, thank you. You have some incredible machines. A whole batch I rode in my day. Apart from my 2 katanas I own a 1988 very very clean CBR100F, think it’s the Hurricane at your end. Also a 2004 GSX1400 low miles at 9000mls. If it’s not too much trouble, could you tell me what you think of Kawasaki’s gpz400, and the mini ninja the gpx250. I am in middle doing a deal to buy both.
Thank you again sir.
By the way how are your buildings doing. I just came across a video of you needing work on a roof.
Is all well?
@@KaplanCycles sorry I meant 1000F but I guess you probably figured that 👍
Nice bike I can't seem to figure out how to replace top half of the cable assembly
Mmmm cucumbers !
Have you shifted it the wrong way yet ? Winding out 3rd then hit 2nd instead of 4th because the pattern is opposite.
I do that a lot! All my other bikes are normal 😄
75norton commando ,replacing the oral cable
No wheely lol please ride it on the back tyre.
I only know cos I got the same bike in yellow but a 72:)

Wrong grab rail! Thats the Interstate grab rail:)
Is it sold already? 🤤 I am in the market for one these.
