We need daily videos. I know there will be never ending always something to do in your farm. keep making videos whatever you do. less machinery and more human labor.
When you said arugula...my heart made you into a blues clues host guy. And now I cannot get it out of my head... dude... why do you give off such positive vibes!😊
Haha what can I say, I love finding free food plants growing randomly around my yard 😂 I grew up on Blues Clues, and now my kids watch the reboot of the series. What a great show.
bro thank you so much for these vids, i’ve learned so much and i’m trying to convince my parents to let me get chickens for our yard and to let me build a coop and i’m getting close
Thanks! Do you guys ever miss having chickens, or think of getting some at your place? Btw we still look at Shimanami Fudosan's website all the time and dream 😬
@@Slowsteading Yeah I miss having chickens all the time! We have a long narrow piece of land between the house and the guesthouse, and the plan has been to get that into the chicken coop of my hopes and dreams hahaha. Sometime in 2025. We have a bunch of young trees to cut down (it used to be farmland) so we will have all the free wood chips we need for the deep-bedding method. I hope y'all make it back this way someday! But in the meantime, I love seeing your videos back at your ranch.
Love watching your homesteading journey & your lovely family! Just a note, I've read that pine shaving is not safe for chickens and can cause a lot of health issues in the long run, maybe you can switch to other options.
Thanks for watching! I've heard that too so am always looking into other options. Ideally I'd love to source some shavings from a local woodworker if possible (free and local!) I just haven't made the right connection yet! Or maybe start planing my own wood 🤔 Thankfully the birds haven't shown any issues related to the shavings and we have been using them for years so far 👌
Thanks Gagan! Just 4 chickens to start, but we'll be raising some chicks this fall to add to the flock. A flock of 12 seems to be the right size for our coop and our egg needs. It's nice to have our feathered friends back 🥰
Haha it kinda is! I had sanded it down with the intention of staining the wood, but then it filled up with chickens so fast I didn't even have the chance 😂 The wood seems to be holding up without for now, maybe next year 🤷🏻♂️
i put two compressed hay bales in mine. we get tons of rain so it keeps the run from being sloshy and gross and it will compost down nicely. the hens like digging around for sprouted sunflower seeds !
No bias at all right 😂😂 Yeah sloshiness is tricky, especially in wetter climates but hay is a good option. We did that in the past, then when it gets all caked and matted down with manure it peels right off like a carpet ✌️😁
I just spent the morning changing out the wood shavings in my coop. The birds seem to like to watch and then mess it up......I have 25 American Bresse meat birds.....they are fun except for the roosters, lol.
Ooooh messy job, but gotta love the compost material! We just picked up some Cornish Cross chicks but I'm curious about the American Bresse. Let me know how they work out for you!

@@ajeetkumar-sm5pc thanks so much! I'm trying to work up to a weekly schedule because you're right, never a dull moment around here 😅

Haha no problem, glad they're helpful for you! Best of luck getting your first flock going, it's worth it ✌️
Great update and refresh! Those chickies look really happy. Looking forward to watching your flock grow and thrive!

@@bentonhomestead Ahh yea I think I remember that little space! Would be perfect for a sweet little flock of birds 🥰

yes it does beat television. I havent had cable in 10 yrs.
@@Adam.304 that's awesome, way to be! I think we cut the cord about a decade ago as well 👌
I just finished watching the building series! This feels like an epilogue lol

best coop ever. im not biased at all. LOL

Did you build your home? It looks amazing.
Hey thanks! No we didn't build it, we just got lucky finding it at the right time ✌️😁
iconic! :D
I was worried it might've collapsed during a heavy snowfall that fell when we were away, but this thing is rock solid!
Ya'll make me wanna go out and get 87 chickens, just so I can make a cool coop!
Only 87!? Why not 100? 😂
@@Slowsteading I am on a strict diet. I can only eat 87 chickens per year and my faith only allows me to kill what I eat.
@@MajikMedia What happens if you eat 88 chickens?
@@Slowsteading Quite sure it would be certain death. But I'm not sure. Never done it before.
@@MajikMedia Better play it safe, max out at 87 birds per annum.
🥸🤔😒

hope this time you don't abandon livestock abruptly and leave.
The livestock went to loving homes. They live in a farming community.
Get over yourself.
What an odd comment 🙄
