Keep it simple in the beginning. Once I see that the lady is more experienced than I thought, then I do more advanced patterns. But, keeping it simple and enjoyable in the beginning is better for both, IMO. It gives me a moment to get "in sync" with the song.
Went to my first Salsa party last friday. I was nervous af ... but glad I did it. Going this friday as well ... if I'm going to suck I'll at least have fun with it 😄😄😊
When I first started salsa class I got laughed at and many women did not want to dance with me, I knew I was still learning. When I got better and saw the professionals I refused to dance in social settings and just watched. One day I realized they are not me and I am not them, many people just want to dance because they love it. So I danced with others at my level, then those above my level, and just became more comfortable since I stopped the comparison and just started having fun. Embrace the basics, if you know a few fancy moves, great, but dont copy the professionals, create your own style and get better at what you do best. Watching dancers like Terry, Fadi, Johnny, Nery and others is intimidating cause they are that great, we dont need to be great, we just need people that enjoy dancing with us and have fun.
Been dancing for years before some of these professional salsa dancers. Yet my confidence always got in the way. Now I am older (but still in great shape) and now I am learning to just dive in and who cares what they think.
How do you prepare yourself to be more confident in Social Dancing? Any other Tips?

Sometimes when it's not really my day, a beer can help to reduce the tension and to be more confident

I use this words to ask to dance: "I learn salsa in MySalsaHome. Would you dance with me?" All the times the answer is yes, of course.
😂😂😂😂🙏
That's a great tip - it conveys that one is a debutant, but a meaningful and serious one. Well done, and thank you.
I still do shine as a female even when I'm not confident
My last tip would be, believe in yourself
🙏
