Kid is mad cool I saw him at some bar back in the day in Cali. I guess he had a show down the street and he was just there chopping it up with me and my boy.
Tommy Israel, you’re right there were so many opportunities for a black kid in the hood of Queens NY born in 1962. I guess Jay-Z didn’t sell drugs either. SMH!
The craziest part is Kid wrote ALL THE RHYMES for kid’n’play. So as kids we were thinking it was equal and Play was the cool kid writing rhymes and actually Kid was writing and Play was the flavor as far as the presentation and the clothes. Crazy thinking about it. I really Hope Kid had his publishing game up.
Fred Hall At the time tho, everyone thought Play was the man. Kid was cool but Play was the ladies man and all that. Little did anyone kno, Kid was writing the entire songs. Which is a testament to Kid’s talent. I just hope he got all his publishing. No one really knew that Kid’s pen was so vicious. They always played it like it was equal.
If I recall right....it was Herby Luv Bug that wrote most of their lyrics....also with Salt and Pepa...or at least on the credits of their songs he did.
mightymikec7 Steve Stoute is on the record as saying Herby LuvBug was a thief and stole all the production & publishing. And Kid wrote ALL the lyrics and Theres interviews with Play sitting there right next to him and Kid says it proudly. Play said “lyrics wasn’t my thing.” Lol. Facts. Kid wrote the rhymes and Play was the MAN at their school & Herby was a Puffy type guy making moves & popular. Kid rightly thought writing the rhymes & forming a group with Play would help him with chicks. And he was right. Like I said, I just hope Kid got his publishing on those songs but I’m sure he didn’t. Herby was taking the publishing. He didn’t write a damn word. But he knew about contracts & publishing.
