If you've been watching this show closely for a long time, you'd notice that Ingram's behaviour is so much different than your regular contestant. A non-cheating contestant would never risk his/her money if they have absolutely no clue what the answer is. The norm is to take the money and not risk it especially if the money won is a huge amount already. Ingram has never heard of 'googol' and yet he was willing to risk £480K on it. It doesn't make any sense. And you can tell that he was drawing blanks on most of those questions too. Now, compare him to John Carpenter who won $1M in the US version and you'll see how different their approaches were. John's way is how an intelligent player plays.
Yeah especially someone that's not wealthy going into it. Like 500,000 is going to change your life in a major way and you don't just flippantly risk it on a guess.

@@DrElaf1988Usually game shows delay prizes by a week to make sure that everything is okay before allowing the transfer to take place (taxes, paperwork discrepancies, transferral processing) I don’t think that the producers expected this to happen, however the delay being commonplace in game shows allowed for an opportunity to follow up on their suspicions

The people behind sussed it out soon after. I did work with a guy who was in the audience he told me the camera is on the family member at all times, this was before the scandal.

Have you ever seen this show? People taking their time is the point of it and the rest is editing magic. Anything can sound as loud or silent as the producers want it to.
You can’t hear consistent coughing on correct answer. You can’t hear any at all between questions 10 and 14. Tecwen has never won anything significant in any quiz and makes an completely unrealistic accomplice. Tarrant also heard nothing suspicious on the night. Ingram is clearly running through the answers to pick up any audience clues in their reaction.
TheBrabon1 this isn’t even an argument theirs to many moments to point out how obvious it was i mean anyone who says anything remotely different has some serious issues. But good plan tho lol
I also cannot believe the Host was oblivious to the coughing that he didn't stop the show and question the woman in the audience doing it and told the man he is cheating.
Vayank123 the host has come out and said many times all the clips we see our with enhanced sound on the coughing and with the clapping and music quieter when he was in their i can imagine its quite hard to concentrate on just the coughing as he is concentrating on the contestant answering the question then all the clapping would just drown out the coughing obviously its easy for us to say why didnt he hear it as we are looking and listening for it.
His wife is even annoyed by his obvious cluelessness. Him saying things like “i don’t even know what a Googol is” but he’s guessing it. And he can’t explain what any of the other answers are. If he at least acted like he knew what the other answers were, as if he could eliminate those, it would’ve been more believable.
And on the final few questions, she looks a lot more concerned and afraid. Likely because she knew he was going further than what they planned and was acting way too suspicious
Yes if he'd been a better actor and not so mouthy he might have gotten away with it. And the continuous checking each answer. Like the "Gentlemen vs Players" one, he knew. No need for the coughs there. He should have had his own way of signalling back to the coughing guy - or even a series of signals. They could have gotten away with this. If they'd been a little more thoughtful about it.
The plan was actually a great idea but it was executed so poorly and obvious. Here’s what they should’ve done: 1. The major should’ve read out the answers instead of saying “I don’t think it’s A” 2. They should’ve had 1 cough per question 3. The major should’ve given a code if he knew the answer so they didn’t have to cough, such as saying “right ok” at the start of the question so no coughing would be required 4. The major should’ve walked away at £250,000 in order to not cause too much suspicion
It eould have been more sus if there was 1 cough per wuestion. They should have coughed the entire time and cough at the correct amswer before coughing again, to make it seem less obvious.
The coughs need be special like once or twice or sth at correct ans and regular on unrelated occasion so as to make it natural and random.. Besides he was very wrong to make his intentions clear right away.. He couldve just repeated all options again and again waiting for his friend to answer some time obviously not rightaway on the very first repeat.. But yea all this for not too much of a head.. It only reduces the probability of getting caught
The expression of his wife tells everything: she's pissed at him about how badly he executed their plan. "I've never heard of X" is the worst possible way of testing the options :-DD
@@surefmeurope5766 I mean to remember that some of the producers picked up on it pretty early on but was told pretend that everything was normal during the show and just deal with it afterwards.

Theres no doubt he cheated. but it is odd that were watching this edited footage. I think the footage is spot on. but its very easy to argue that in real time the coughs didnt sync up with the video. Because ITV/celador edited what were watching. It wasnt edited by someone independent or the police.

"I'm sure it's a nanomole, I don't think it's a googol" Cough cough "I think it could be googol actually, I don't think it's nanomole. Yes it's googol"
Clearly cheating. Whether the coughing was enhanced or not, he was dead set on at least a couple of big money answer, heard the cough and change his mind immediately. With no logic. Looked unsure each time
I’ve said this before and I’ll forever stand by this view: what exposed this scheme the most was how Charles’ wife wasn’t even happy that Charles “won” that million. Her face was filled with fear at the end, which would immediately raise suspicion, because everyone else would be cheering them on and going down and hugging them after they won the million, being so happy for them. Aside from the obvious coughing and Charles’ lack of knowledge from the gecko, his wife’s reaction when he “won” gave it away big time.
Or maybe not. Tarrant has said in interviews the chaps in the monitoring room grew suspicious early on, and the Craig David moment raised suspicions even further so they immediately began reviewing the tapes once filming stopped. They found the evidence at the second viewing of the raw footage.
Jaco Wium yeah they deffo knew earlier on, but it would’ve been a lot harder to prove in court. The fact that he played the last two questions in the manner he did made it 10x more obvious he was cheating, thus having a stronger case against him
when they won the million the wife looked so guilty and on edge, like she was thinking about something, probably thinking wether they were going to get out of the studio with no questions asked. normally when your partner wins one million you would be so care free and happy.
How would you know has your partner won a million quid? In all seriousness I think they're guilty too but if I say won the lottery I would still be sheepish and on edge until the cheque was cleared or the money showing up as available balance in my account
By looking at all other contestants who won maybe? She had a nervous and guilty reaction even before he won compared to all other previous contestants.
Have to admit I was sure he was guilty as sin... going through this I got more doubtful... then I got to the berlin/Paris question and it becomes so obvious. He decides to go for Paris out of absolutely nowhere when he was so sure it was Berlin. Cheat
It's the other way around Matty. But yeh I think he was seconds away from playing Berlin but the coughing made him change his mind to Paris. It's a German name tbf and I would have walked into that trap as well.
If he didn’t take so much time with the questions, he wouldn’t have gotten caught. a lot of them he guessed the right answer first, but then took more time just to make sure. The last two questions were painfully obvious he didn’t actually know em.
Besides the coughs.. his way to think, his culture, his speed in Switching answers Without hesitating considering the ipothetical money loss without knowing anything about the subject... Everything is just unreal
And his wife's tearless, expression-less, scared face after he won. They were so certain that they would go through this unnoticed, that they didn't act well.
@@julius7506 I think even before that point, she already thought that they could get caught, because Charles made them repeat the cough so many times and never managed to get a correct answer by himself, so the cheat became more and more obvious. That's why she's furious even after winning. She was like "They're probably going to catch us but let's act happy still, just in case they don't."
You would have to first realise that they're doing it in the first place. Trust me most people are so oblivious to many things in their daily life not even noticing it and you wouldnt notice it too.

He screwed up by mentioning what he thinks of each answer when he doesn’t even know it - ‘I don’t think it’s Paris’ *Cough* ‘Actually I think it’s Paris’ Too obvious. If he at least said ‘well, Paris... Berlin... etc.’ & then waited for coughs, he would’ve played it out much better & it would be less suspicious. exactly, the acting and tricks could have been wayyy better, especially in going u-turns for the Paris and googol questions... he could have just mentioned names instead of saying" it is " or " i think" and changing it later with no proper reason.
Game would be well easy to cheat if they never checked phones. They were too greedy and didnt look for a more viable way of communicating the answers. Look up, if they cough answer is either A or B. Look left, it is A look right it is B. Look down, answer is either C or D. Same as above. All they need to do is have a scratch, whistle, cough, sneeze anything to indicate. Saves looking like a twat repeating the questions. Hell, if they had time. An electric buzzer would have sorted him out big time, no noise, just a vibration in his pocket.

there was an organisation which i cant remember the name of which specialised on getting people on the show through many loopholes (for reference all of this was completely legal, the the producers of the show also knew this existed but couldnt do anything about it), ingram and his family were frequent customers of them.

If you've been watching this show closely for a long time, you'd notice that Ingram's behaviour is so much different than your regular contestant. A non-cheating contestant would never risk his/her money if they have absolutely no clue what the answer is.
What amuses me is that he's never heard of Megatron! 😂😂
I mean if you say you know it, you kinda have to say something after that, which would reveal that you actually have no clue.
His wife pushed him to cheat, then got frustrated that he wasn’t cheating well enough. Oh no, I feel so sorry for her…
Yes if he'd been a better actor and not so mouthy he might have gotten away with it.
Here’s what they should’ve done:
1. The major should’ve read out the answers instead of saying “I don’t think it’s A”
2. They should’ve had 1 cough per question
3. The major should’ve given a code if he knew the answer so they didn’t have to cough, such as saying “right ok” at the start of the question so no coughing would be required
4. The major should’ve walked away at £250,000 in order to not cause too much suspicion
No plan can made better Dan them in the beginning we start with worst Dan go better
you should go and try
It eould have been more sus if there was 1 cough per wuestion. They should have coughed the entire time and cough at the correct amswer before coughing again, to make it seem less obvious.
The coughs need be special like once or twice or sth at correct ans and regular on unrelated occasion so as to make it natural and random.. Besides he was very wrong to make his intentions clear right away.. He couldve just repeated all options again and again waiting for his friend to answer some time obviously not rightaway on the very first repeat..
But yea all this for not too much of a head.. It only reduces the probability of getting caught
too much greed. that's what it is
His overacting cost him tbh. Makes him looks even more suspicious.
I'm shocked by how easy the million question was...
Wasn’t easy back in 2001.
The expression of his wife tells everything: she's pissed at him about how badly he executed their plan. "I've never heard of X" is the worst possible way of testing the options :-DD
The wife looks like a panto villain ... like a murderer in a poirot story. How they didn't pick up on it all sooner 😂
39:05 "I don't actually know what a googol is." then a huge eye roll from his wife 😂
@@surefmeurope5766 I mean to remember that some of the producers picked up on it pretty early on but was told pretend that everything was normal during the show and just deal with it afterwards.
for sure she knew they were toasted,, the last two questions were pushing it way too far, im sure with 250K he would still get away
What made it so fucking crazy is most times the ones that his dumb azz would say he never heard of turned out to be the right fuckin’ answer!!!!!
Michael Sheen really did nail the role of Chris Tarrant and the voice was absolutely spot on! Hope he wins a BAFTA!
He was rubbish. It was embarrassingly cheesy.
me too! You know the guy who plays the accomplice coughing, he is married to sheens cousin in real life!
He wasn't that good. Most people could pass off a weak impression of Tarrant and others would know who they were doing. Sheen is an actor so was bound to be able to pass off a reasonable impression of him.
@MrPolicekarim Who was “coughing accomplice”?
If you're reveling in slandering that Welshman..
...Then do know that his fictionalized-persona was never shown coughing to a particular option.
@DaleyMayall I know, right?
He's that shallow _persona._
No wonder that he got replaced by pigs.

In 2021: - "I don't know what a googol is but we'll Google it"
39:44 I love how the announcer just outted their entire production. "You've been lucky for the past hour... Um, PAST 2 DAYS!" pretending that they actually were there for 2 days. Multiple episodes are recorded in a single day.
That's not what he meant. You don't sound native English. You should really learn how to catch social cues. You sound like that one bad friend.
40:00 40:07
Plus everyone is wearing the same clothes
Thank you. I was wondering if it was the second day, why were they wearing the same clothes?
It was recorded over two days, Sept 9 and 10, 2001.

“Just go for it” yeah sure that’s definitely gonna get you places
It would be hilarious “if on phone a friend” Charles Ingram buddy picks up the phone 📲 and coughs
That would be a good sketch
Or...he uses his phone a friend, and Tecwen Whittock's phone goes off in his pocket.
TRUE STORY STRAIGHT UP 😂
The end got nothing and become go to the jail 😑
Won't be hilarious
this might have worked if he didn’t make it so obvious, the half million he went from berlin to paris for no reason , then the million he goes for the one he never heard of. nobody would risk 468,000 to go for an answer they haven’t heard of
He never gave a reason when he selected an answer. 'I think it's Paris because when I was in France I saw a...' or 'I'm going for Craig David because I think my daughter has his album...' etc
Ben Bastiani Art such a smart guy...
His wife is actually the brains lol too bad they didn’t think of getting another player to help them when she was on, her brother was obsessed with the show
Theres no doubt he cheated. but it is odd that were watching this edited footage. I think the footage is spot on. but its very easy to argue that in real time the coughs didnt sync up with the video. Because ITV/celador edited what were watching. It wasnt edited by someone independent or the police.
@@wc389 Do you mean, in your opinion they cheated? They should have dismissed the case as ITV tampered with the 'evidence' before presenting it to the Police!
But he clearly said he hadn't heard of Craig David so how could he give a reason for choosing it?
I’ve never heard of ‘googol’, I don’t think it’s a ‘googol’ , my final answer ‘googol’
It's a nanomole ,,yes definitely nanomole I'm going for nanomole ,,final answer ,,hmm could be googol , cough cough cough ,,,. It's gooogol 😂😂. So fekkin obvious

Clearly cheating. Whether the coughing was enhanced or not, he was dead set on at least a couple of big money answer, heard the cough and change his mind immediately. With no logic. Looked unsure each time
prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in the Bible ruclips.net/video/WJSW5CA47mA/видео.html
If he didn't go for the 1 million nobody would have realised tbh
Nine Stone if he went for £500,000, I think there may have been investigation. But if he went for £250,000 he would’ve gotten away with it
@@matthewgriffy exactly
Or maybe not. Tarrant has said in interviews the chaps in the monitoring room grew suspicious early on, and the Craig David moment raised suspicions even further so they immediately began reviewing the tapes once filming stopped. They found the evidence at the second viewing of the raw footage.
@@dogsmusicbookstravelscience someone done their research
Jaco Wium yeah they deffo knew earlier on, but it would’ve been a lot harder to prove in court. The fact that he played the last two questions in the manner he did made it 10x more obvious he was cheating, thus having a stronger case against him

*cough
Ingram: “Yes I’m positive”

when they won the million the wife looked so guilty and on edge, like she was thinking about something, probably thinking wether they were going to get out of the studio with no questions asked. normally when your partner wins one million you would be so care free and happy.
Absolutely fascinating.
Have to admit I was sure he was guilty as sin... going through this I got more doubtful... then I got to the berlin/Paris question and it becomes so obvious. He decides to go for Paris out of absolutely nowhere when he was so sure it was Berlin. Cheat
Martin Flood changes his mind out of nowhere on a question about champagne late in his run.
@@SteRDLK but did he change his mind consistently and was able to get it right each time?
It's the other way around Matty. But yeh I think he was seconds away from playing Berlin but the coughing made him change his mind to Paris.
It's a German name tbf and I would have walked into that trap as well.
Eugene Kwan yes
If he didn’t take so much time with the questions, he wouldn’t have gotten caught. a lot of them he guessed the right answer first, but then took more time just to make sure. The last two questions were painfully obvious he didn’t actually know em.
Besides the coughs.. his way to think, his culture, his speed in Switching answers Without hesitating considering the ipothetical money loss without knowing anything about the subject... Everything is just unreal
They're really quite daft to think that this would work without anyone clueing in.

If I were in the audience I would start coughing with the wrong answers 😂😂

You would have to first realise that they're doing it in the first place. Trust me most people are so oblivious to many things in their daily life not even noticing it and you wouldnt notice it too.
You'd havta know the right answers first lol
Crazy how awkward this makes me feel. I hate seeing people be dishonest. Pathetic!
I actually had secondhand embarrassment multiple times throught this vid 😮😢😂
Her face when he said never heard of Craig David kept saying A1 yet suddenly changed his mind to Craig David right after his wife coughing which was so embarrassing
Though with the crew on the guy at the finger seat from an early stage I think they would have busted him anyway.
good points made there
exactly, the acting and tricks could have been wayyy better, especially in going u-turns for the Paris and googol questions... he could have just mentioned names instead of saying" it is " or " i think" and changing it later with no proper reason.
You go on the show then lmao

That every time he answers a question , his one answer"I am not sure".
He executed this so badly. Not only are there a couple of u-turns. But he also repeated the answers so often that the wife had to cough at least three times at the right answer before he finally chose it. And the real question is: If the wife was able to answer all these question, why wasn't she on the chair?!
She wasnt alone, her brother helped him too bu coughing. When he didnt know the answer, he asked people in the audience
She had been on the show but never made it to the hot seat
@@ItsAllLove4Real Incorrect. She did make it to the hot seat not too long before Charles did. She walked away with 32,000 pounds after getting the 64,000 answer wrong. The host Chris T. even commented on the documentary by ITV that even though she won a lot of money, she was visibly pissed off because she wanted to go higher.
I’m sure they only new the answers because the system generating the questions had been hacked and therefore they knew the questions before hand. I might be totally wrong but I know it’s something to do with the system due to the ITV drama/documentary
I think Larry Whitehurst mentioned that he heard all but one of the coughs coming from Tecwen Whittock; the odd one out was on the 50:50, from Diana.
