Eduard Tubin isn't yet widely recognized as one of the 20th century's great symphonists. THIS is the music that should be played in concert halls, to bring in new audiences. Playing only the old warhorses condemns these venues to nothing but snow-topped audiences, and we'll be gone in a generation.
@@anastasiavinogradova_composer Are you suggesting that these are ALL great symphonists? Thanks for your comment, but it's a huge club you cite; it makes me wonder about your threshold between 'great' vs not so great. I'd be more impressed with a short list to explore, since I spot at least 4 names I do not regard anywhere as highly as Tubin. And there are important omissions, too.
I agree, the musicians are happy to play unknown works, but the promoters unhappy to take the financial risks if ticket sales are poor. There must be a way around this. Programming is partly to blame.
Agreed! Vagn Holmboe is another fabulous composer who doesn't get enough attention. AND who'd likely win over fresh audiences if promoters would take the risk to choose some of his symphonies and play them. Ditto for his concertos.

I bought many of Tubin's recordings many years ago through the Musical Heritage Society. I still enjoy his work and also pieces by Vagn Holmboe.
