THE best live Rock band on Earth. And beyond. 🤘🤘
Saiki Atsumi - (SIGH-kee) - Lead vocals, Born Feb 8, 1994 27 years old, 'the Ice Queen'.
MISA - (MEE-sa) - Bass, Born Oct 15, 1992 28 years old, 'the Barefoot Assassin'.
Miku Kobato (MEE-koo) - Founder of the band, Rhythm guitar, backing vocals Born Oct 21, 1991 29 years old, 'the Small Pigeon'
Kanami Tono - (KAH-nah-mee) - Lead guitar, Born Sept 28, 1991 30 years old, the Natural Airhead, Musical Genius, 'Princess'
Akane Hirose - (AH-ka-nay) - Drums, Born Dec 14, 1990 30 years old, 'the Gorilla'.
PS - Jimmy Page of Led Zep was equally impressed with Akane, the drummer! He went backstage in 2016 and asked her for a selfie (it's on google images). The "guitarist with the pig tails" is Miku, who founded and created the band and writes the lyrics for the music that Kanami, the world-class lead guitarist, composes.

    They are:
Miku Kobato (小鳩 ミク) - band founder, main lyricist, rhythm guitar, backing vocals, occasional lead vocals and spokespigeon.
Kanami Tōno (遠乃 歌波) - lead guitar, backing vocals, main music composer.
Akane Hirose (廣瀬 茜) - drums, backing vocals, sequencing. Half human and half gorilla.
Misa (ミサ, stylized as MISA) - bass, occasional assassinations.
Saiki Atsumi (厚見 彩姫) - main lead and occasional backing vocals.
Interestingly, this song was originally an instrumental.
The lead singer liked it so much that Miku wrote lyrics for it.

You've done some great ones already like 'FREEDOM', but my all-time favorite BAND-MAID song is 'Secret My Lips'.
It's listed on the official channel as "BAND-MAID / secret My lips (Official Music Video)".
My ulterior motive once you've reacted to this one, is to get the April 1st, 2019 BAND-MAIKO song 'Secret Maiko Lips' added to your list, but only after you see this original version. Unkess you go for a double reaction in that same order.

Just adding stuff here, because it seems you’re engaged with this comment, and I want to make sure you see this: Miku (red rose, pigtails, rhythm guitar and lyrics) was the original lead singer, and the band was her idea. She found Kanami (bonnet, lead guitar, main composer) online, and recruited her. Kanami had played with Akane (formally a small hat, now just a smile, drums and sequencing), and recruited her. Akane knew MISA (all black, whiskey bottle, bass) from music school and various gigs, and recruited her. The 4 quickly realized that Miku didn’t have a full rock voice, so Miku being the visionary and selfless person she is took a step back from lead vocals and found Saiki (blue rose, ice queen stare, vocals) via an audition process. Since she wasn’t singing lead anymore, she decided to learn guitar, and Kanami became We teacher. With every album, Miku does more and more guitar work as she gets better and better, and you can see it in their live performances, especially when they play older songs with new more complicated arrangements

Anybody wanna tell him? The guitarist with the pigtails and the red flower in her hair is Miku. She used to hold the guitar as more or less a prop, but she's gotten better over the years and she's now a darned respectable live rhythm guitarist. Kanami, the lead guitarist (generally on your right in the videos when they aren't on walkabout) is an absolute monster guitarist. Her fingers are crazy nimble. Whatever you think you hear of the lead guitar part, if you ever hear the instrumental versions of the songs, you find Kanami is doing 2-3 times more than you ever thought. There are songs where she's essentially shredding the entire song, not as an out front, hey look at me part, but in the background as an enhancement part.

The live version transcends the studio version; the way they strip it back just enough so that Saiki’s vocals are upfront and you really feel her evoke the songs lyrics. I feel the studio version is maybe a bit overloaded and overlayed but the live version is perfect. It really is an absolute masterpiece in composition and arrangement. Kanami is a true musical genius. Her guitar lines on this track are stellar and unlike any other rock players that I know of.

Kanami Tono - kah-NAH-mee - Kanamincho or just Mincho - lead guitar, keyboards, principal composer and arranger, Miku's guitar teacher (Miku had never played guitar prior to shooting their first video).

    The 5 Band-Maid members are:
SAIKI Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals and melodies.
MIKU Kobato (Me-Ku), "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals and lyricist. Miku's new signature Zemaitis guitar has pigeons on the fret board. The “Flappy Pigeon” is a beautiful model. Miku always has the finest guitars in the land.
KANAMI Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar and keyboards. Kanami plays a PRS; the birds on the fret board are a tribute to Paul Reed Smith's mum who was an avid birdwatcher.
AKANE Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums.
MISA (Me-Sa), "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass. Misa usually plays a Black Cloud 5 string bass aka “Black Smoker”.
Their Battle Gear as they call it with slight variations are French maid outfits for Akane, Miku and Kanami,
MISA ditched the French maid outfit early on and started to wear a Chinese inspired maid outfit - in black of course. It's partly how MISA got her nickname 'The Barefoot Assassin', she always plays barefoot, and Miku joked her outfit was an “Assassin maid”.
Saiki's outfit is more Spanish inspired and more fitting for the Queen of Maids.

    “Be more existent”!
You will hear Saiki’s awesome falsetto when you watch their wonderful, jazzy ballad Wonderland, from the same concert. I think it is one of Kanami’s best compositions, and it shows off a different side of Aakane’s drumming chops.

    • @CaptainFaceBeard
      @CaptainFaceBeard  2 года назад

That will be awesome to watch. I have trained as a singer, and can tell you sometimes what sounds like falsetto is actually Head Voice. The female singing voice can sound like it goes into falsetto, but a lot of times it is a very high note in Head Voice. Because they naturally have a higher singing range than us, it is more rare for a female to use Falsetto, and their switch into Falsetto is very very subtle. I am excited to see which one it is. Sorry, geeked out about singing. HAHAHA.

That is the best things about Bass picks. They are rather big, so they are much easier to do that with, than a guitar pic. Especially if you use the tiny Jazz picks. The Jazz picks are awesome, but easy to come flying our of your hand.

Small corrections: Akane's nick names are Ah-chan, Ah-chi, and Gorilla. She is called Gorilla because of her powerful drumming.
Kanami is also called as the princess. In Japan, people think name+cho (or ncho) sounds Kawaii. Thus Kanami+ncho, and Mincho for short.
Saiki is Ice Queen or Queen (not the princess). Members call her Sai-chan or Sensei (means Teacher).

Welcome to your journey down the pigeon hole. I prepared this little guide to help you handle the adventure you are about to embark on.
Once upon a time in Japan....
Miku (Who is a 800+ year old pigeon... long story) was in a short lived "idol" band in Japan and ended up working in a "Maid Cafe". She came up with idea to create a rocking band in maid costumes. A "Gap" as its called in appearance to action.
Miku found singer/songwriter Kaname (Lead Guitar and main Composer), who knew Akane - AKA "The Gorilla - she likes bananas a lot! (drums - Jazz and Classically Trained), who knew Misa - AKA the "Barefoot Assassin" (Bass, Jazz and Classically trained).
[Grab a post-it now and paste to your desk - Miku (B/U and Rhythm,) Kaname (Lead) Akane (Drums) Misa (Bass) Saiki (Vocals)]
    Putting it together...
It became apparent Mikus voice wasn't really suited to the style and so they decided to go find Lead Vocals and brought in Saiki. This basically put Miku out of a job in the band she created, but instead she adapted and Kaname started teaching her guitar. That's right. She couldn't even play in the first video they did 6 years ago. Now she has a 70-80s style aggressive punk style attack on rhythm and Kaname is constantly expanding her guitar parts in challenging ways. All while singing backup.
Personally, I never could sing and play ha-ha
Their first actual song they wrote and recorded was "Alone". They have changed label since and have joined a new one now for the new album going into 2021. Their look, songs, style etc. are their own. Not studio directed.
    Pretty cool these days.
Note: Miku is the main lyricist and writes in heavy metaphors that can be interpreted many ways and often confusing in translation. So, they often add parts that audiences of any language can sing along.

Miku Kobato - RHYTHM GUITAR - plays Zemaitis C24MF (Zemaitis Endorsement - with a Signature Guitar called Flappy Pigeon) - EVH Amps
    - Writes the lyrics - Has only been playing guitar for about 7 years (could not play when BAND MAID was formed). Was the singer but took a back seat voluntarily!
KANAMI TONO - LEAD GUITAR - plays PRS Custom 24 (PRS Endorsement) - Mesa/Boogie Triple Rectifier. Teaches MIKU guitar.
    - Writes the music (one interview she states that she has a database - 2 years worth?!?!) - learned classical piano from an early age.
Misa - BASS GUITAR plays Black Cloud "Smoker" and Privat Reserve (SG Style) bass - (Black Cloud Endorsement) Orange AB200B MKIII Amps - switches with picks and slaps in the same song. Played guitar and piano before moving to guitar.
Akane Hirose - DRUMS - Plays TAMA drums with Zildjian Cymbals - Roland KD-A22 (Possibly an Endorsement with TAMA and ROLAND) - Also plays Trombone - DJ's on the side.
Saiki - VOCALS - Sennheiser microphones and DPA Microphones

That is the thing with guitar, or any instrument when you are around someone with the kind of skill Kanami has, even six months of being taught by someone like her will make dramatic improvements. Honestly the most difficult aspect of guitar, is one that you can learn all on your own without even touching a guitar, and that is memorizing the fretboard. Once you have that down, so much stuff becomes a lot easier.

If you want to hear Saiki hit some high notes, look at "Wonderland" (official live) It's really soulful and funky at the same time.
Also, since you compared Saiki to Freddie, their song "Bubble" is a sort of tribute to him. It's also a really great song, but there's no live version available at the moment.

Your favorites name is Miku Kobato. Kobato mean little pigeon in Japanese. Which is why getting into BAND-MAID is called going down the pigeon hole. She will often end her sentences in PO, because in Japan pigeons don't COO. They KARUPO. She is the rhythm guitarist and backing singer. She didn't know how to play when she started the band. But she felt her voice wasn't strong enough for Lead Vocals in a Hard Rock band. So he stepped aside and had Kanami teacher her guitar. She also writes all the lyrics for the songs. This isn't even the best version of this song. You have to go on the Chinese site Billibilli and go to the Zepp Tokyo LIVE concert, it's the second song.

The story I heard was that this was originally an instrumental like Onset, but Saiki, the lead singer told Miku, who is the lyricist, why can't we have lyrics it would be fun. Miku said okay, and the rest is history. Oh, and if you like Japanese female drummers, check out Senri Yamaguchi and two younger drummers, Junna, who is probably in her late teens and a kickass drummer; and Yoyoka, who just turned 12 and has been drumming since she was 2, had her own RUclips channel at 5 or 6 and put out her first CD at the same time, and is the epitome of a real prodigy. She doesn't read music, but learns by ear and takes two days to learn a song and produce the video of the cover. She is amazing. She's so good she was sitting in on gigs from when she was 6 and now is fully qualified to be part of a professional band. Check out her cover videos, as well as the videos she did for her 12th birthday, accompanied by the best session musicians and singers in Japan. You have to look into her.

Hi Heather and captain! Loving your reaction. As much as I absolutely love this song, you're right, it's probably a good idea exploring something different.
For slower song: Endless Story, Anemone, About Us, Mirage, Page, Wonderland, Matchless Gum.
Stripped back: Start Over, Smile, Dice?, Chemical Reaction
For different vocal: Rock in Me, Time, Sayonakidori
Instrumental: Onset, Don't be Long, Without Holding Back

Haven’t read down to see if somebody already answered this, but Misa’s bass guitar is a Black Smoker (custom) from the, “Private reserve”, of the company Black Cloud. She also has a red custom private reserve specially made for Misa and the Black Cloud company owner presented it to Misa shortly before the concert where they recorded the song Freedom. She used that red guitar in the video for freedom.

See nothing wrong there since I love the tone. When it comes to her playstyle, it's quite special. She is mainly using pick, but also slapp. Then she folds the pick under the index finger. This is so perfected that it is done in a blink of an eye.

MISA is the Queen of Bass. Without sounding like a d%&k, does Les Claypool "hybrid play" the bass?? Legit question!! The 2 things that caught my attention with MISA is 1. She uses the whole fretboard and 2. Her "hybrid" playing...... being able to play with a pick/plectrum and then slap then to the pick again... in the same song.... in the same phrase. She switches it up all the time.... and she never drops the pick in slap transition. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't recall any bassist doing this, and if they do, it can't be to her proficiency and fluidity.?.?.?.?

She is technical perfection. If you are able to find videos of her doing a playthrough of something, at good quality, being able to slow down what she is playing with RUclips now, the stuff you could learn just from observing her technique would be game changing for a guitarist. I always tell other guitarists, learn how to play Bleed from Meshuggah, it will change the way you play. I feel the same about watching her play. She is very good for the, considerably, short time she has played, and that comes from Kanami teaching her the correct technique. Starting off playing guitar we all tend to pick up bad habits, having someone that good teach you, eliminates all of that. That is why she is already a Guitar Hero. The most important thing I could teach anyone about music is that it is a LEARNED SKILL!! It's nice if you are born to play, but with determination, anyone can become a Guitar Hero.
