    This is a great video. My ministry is sending families in short missions trips. They called me to give my opinion. Your video gave me a broader perspective. I am missionary here in USA (Yes, it is possible)

      Thank you for the feedback! I'm a firm believer that bringing attention to the areas we need to improve on will only make our missions effort far more successful.

    Personally I'm not religious, and I've noticed what you talked about for some time. And to me it's a breath of fresh air to see that someone who is religious recognizes these problems. Most people I talk to who are religious don't.

      Thank you for your feedback and for sharing! (To be honest this was a hard video for me to make and share... )I don't want to discourage anyone from helping others, but I do want to see better-thought out sustainable approaches.

    Young man, I am an aspiring missionary who was called decades ago. I've done some things, both in my country and aboard on my vacations, and I've prayed about it.
    I'm called to Africa, my first calling, and Europe, etc. Paul talked about "meeting pressing needs", and was told, by Peter, I think, to "remember the poor, the very thing I was eager to do!". Consequently, I would forego building churches and focus on feeding and giving to the poor, helping them. The most lasting and important gift is the victory Jesus gave me, the holy Spirit and lifelong discipleship. I refuse to waste time and would be eager to form relationships in the brotherhood.

      Hey Mark, thats amazing, please just consider dialing in on least reached countries within Africa. Check out Joshua Project for a gauge on what countries desperately need help hearing the Gospel.

    So very true.. and the dependence on Western / South Korean money.. wealthy churches can 'purchase' a congregation and claim they started it.

      Thank you for sharing. I’m aware of dependency issues but had not heard about the purchasing and claiming activity. Have you personally seen that?

    Thank you for sharing! Makes me think twice about going. My first trip was more of a vacation stamped with Jesus than anything, don’t want to make that mistake again.

      You’re welcome! I’d definitely suggest going again but consider aiming for this type of trip: The Best Type of Mission Trip {Missionary Verified}

    I really hope this topic and video series gains traction. I’m currently working through addressing this in my own church.
    It seems like this is such a difficult conversation since most American churches only hear about the impact from short term missionaries, which will without a doubt be positive, but is unfortunately a skewed view of the broader impact.

    Sadly, I went on a short term mission and mainly painted the interior of a church. Looking back on it, I am sure the money that it cost to get me there could have hired 10 local painters and then some. I remember a mission trip to Nigeria that would have been north of $4000 per person. I dont even think I ever spent that much on a vacation. It would have been heartbreaking to go all of the way out there only to dig a hole or paint something. Maybe one thing that would help is to decide ahead of time what a person's role would be before going. That way, they could make an informed decision and know whether it would truly benefit the Great Commission.

      This is super common and normative in our church settings, so don't feel too bad. To be clear, I'm super into short term trips and the investment to go is worth it, but the trips are best experienced when going to learn from and watch church planting missionaries working with unreached peoples such as ruclips.net/video/dsQhf96gbgw/видео.htmlsi=_--vNDbe3bBdFLqf

    While my 1st trip to Haiti, at 18 yrs old, might not have impacted anyone there,,, it did however change me & my legacy … for Forever 🙏🏻

      Love it! Fact is, almost every long term missionary was positively impacted and influenced by short term trips. Super cool to see how God used that trip in your life!

Given the content of this video, if you haven’t yet please be sure to follow it up for them with the solutions video too! The last thing I’d want is for someone to only see the issues without also providing a healthier path forward. Let’s finish the task! -Alex

      I was a missionary kid in the 1960's in Africa. As an adult I returned for 30 years in various nations in Africa. The problem is our pastors are purposely ignorant and they appoint, allow or even teach their people having no mature understanding of cross-cultural ministry. Black Americans are some of the most ignorant of effective missions, but all churches could use solid teaching on these subjects. But pastors and church members really don't have an interest in learning much.

    Medical missions are very helpful! Not so sure about the religious missions…

    • @backtodmd
      @backtodmd  2 месяца назад

      Medical definitely seems like a practical way to help, from a faith based perspective I'd just love to shift the trips towards places we have a hard time getting access to.
