Excuse me for stating something so obvious but since you didn't adress it I was wondering, considering you find playing with broken 6star to kill your enjoyment of the game, why don't you just... not use them?
Isn't the whole concept of a self-imposed challenge to catter to your taste? You're not "forced" to use Mlynar in a niche he's part of, you know that, right?

    • @HiImYii
      @HiImYii  Год назад +328

I slightly mentioned it in the video, but the solutions for everything tend to be all feel the same for me. Once you do enough research, you realize that every nicheknight has some go-to solution. For E0, it’s usually fast-redeploy stall or Guardmiya S1. For vanguardknights, it’s Bagpipe buff army. While I do understand there’s nuances within each clear, these small details aren’t enough for me enjoy the game. I don’t get enjoyment from grinding out skill cycles and redeployments; I get it from the solution’s concept itself.

It's not the job of the players to design the game for the designers. If your game requires self-restriction to be fun, it's probably that there's a problem with the difficulty curve or even the game's design.
Furthermore, the existence of operators causes enemy powercreep which means that units like Mlynar don't release in a vacuum. They actually affect content design.
"Just don't use it" is a bad excuse because the game is typically designed around people being able to use it.
We're at a point where nicheknights players introduce new restrictions to themselves to bring back the flavor. Xairathan once told me nicheknights isn't about what you have, it's what you don't have. Well, Birdknights is getting a defender soon. Take a guess how happy she is about that.

Tbh I feel lile the mistake here is actually separating "strats" into a category, or rather, forcing yourself to play a specific category of strat. Unique solutions to a problem can involve the usage of many characters with vastly different roles or synergy. Why stick to a pre-existing category of strats like vanguardknights? You should find your own team compositions to solve how to beat this enemy or how to create teamwork between two or more operators, etc. With your own specific Operator or skill restrictions. I mean, that's how unique solutions that aren't category specific are made right?

That's why I love 5 stars. Almost every new one that comes out is either balanced (Therefore deemed "underwhelming" or "Bad" by most players) or has a very specific niche. Even the ones considered "Good" like Cantabile don't break the game or make it braindead. I even started using tools like AKrand to randomly generate a squad of 5 stars and clear event stages with them. I think this is one of the player experience disconnects yii is showcasing in his video.
Some veteran nicheknights challenge players are sad about all the op units, some veteran players are happy about them bc big numbers go biiiiig, newbies & decently experienced players like you are just happy to be able to get new units to fill out a deficit in your roster. (Which as I understand, is a really long waiting game for newer players.) I'm sure there's a wide variety of folks who will always or never use these op units just like I have never used chalter, w, dusk or nian bc I do not have them.
Though I'm in the "veteran player who got mentally exhausted by challenge maps and more often than not doesn't quite get newer mechanics (my downfall was dusks event lol) so goes looking for afknights videos for the second half of events and uses mylnar as a safety panic button" group lol. Esp as a husbando liker, mylnar is great for me to have another unit in my toolbox that I like aesthetically as well as mechanically.
Tbh though this power creep started with chalter and mostly got worse bc they power loaded phantom's specialist archetype. I'm sad for phantom as a person who saved for him early on, it never feels good seeing your favourite characters or methods be relegated to the out of date toolbox.
At the same time, I follow & love the afk guides of a dude who uses siege &normal texas all the time (renaitre), and I know for a lot of meta and challenge ak tubers using siege when bagpipe or saga is available is a terrible sin lmao. But, sometimes you just stick to a particular unit bc they're more in tune with your play style (I'm slow with placement so v few afk guides work fully for me(noticed this back during ceobe's debut), so often have to bring elysium or phantom as emergency body blockers or to get dp faster). Siege allows for that body blocking &dp generating with no frills but she works when all you're trying to do is work with the limited time or energy you have in a day and can invest more time in a different instance.
Every players experience is bound by their own health, skills set, preference and roster, esp for f2p players who may well be struggling for a long time before getting a consistent physical or arts dps. (This was me in the beginning with casters, I was so so frustrated bc I didn't have a good anti air or arts unit for months. Kyostinv saved me a lot in those early days) so while these new op units don't cate to everyone i cant help but think they're added to try to address something at least one group is struggling with in the player base.
Anyways my essay and captain obvious hat done, I hope you all can find the afk guides that work for you. Sometimes it takes a bit of digging but there's a lot of folks out there thank goodness. I went through over 20 before landing on the creator I gel with the most. (Hopefully easier for folks to find theirs nowadays tho )

You won't believe how helpful it was to have a specific 4 star to help a situation such as ethan to counter the enemy flame remnant with his S1. So glad I genuinely play mainly for the story, setting, and characters. I can see how powercreep would bother long time players, I'm new-ish and I don't like it. At the same time, as others have mention, I feel like AK (from what I can tell) has for a long time been more about (outside of CC anyway) creating your own level of difficulty.
If you want to steamroll everything and find enjoyment in that, or simply don't have much time to devote to clear, use meta 6*s (me most of the time; I have other games I like to play and other hobbies). If you want the game to be more challenging, force yourself to NOT use certain operators you feel make clears too easy; then, take pride in what you accomplished. I have raised Chalter, Skalter, T'alter, N'alter, SA, and other meta OPs, but I sometimes choose not to use them because I feel they would make a stage too easy. I personally enjoy using underrated OPs and FactionKnights. Do what is fun for you!
Honestly, I am surprised people who play this game for gameplay haven't sooner burnt out of the game. As much as I love AK, the gameplay is pretty straightforward and the complexity more lies in just coming up with weird solutions to problems that usually can otherwise be stomped with brute force.
I hope you find your spark for the game again. Your videos have been a source of enjoyment with their unique style since I started playing Dec 2022.

    Questions:
Wouldn't low step fall into the same "just use X" convergence of strategy as other niches? It sounds even more susceptible to new ops ruining either the feel of the niche or pull plans as so many new ops' powercreep often includes being easy more convenient to use.
Is it actually brain dead when you still have some aspect to optimize? It sounds like your motivation for this category is to play the game less, but less actions for the clear doesn't mean less actions needed to figure the clear out.

It's funny, I've really been enjoying prepping speedrun strats lately. I've flirted with low-op optimization in the past, and it's always a little tiring because 80% of stages get pushed to the absolute floor of either a) 1 op summoner or b) 1 op per lane, but it can be almost anyone
on the other hand, brainstorming real-time speedrun clears for tournaments has been really weirdly rewarding. brief context, the specific format of competition ensures that each stage is only played once per match - so opponents can preempt, but not respond. so what I've been trying to do is find unconventional or unexpected operators that simplify the stage as much as possible. There's some commonality with low-step, since staying on 2x is optimal, but its also good if the clear has plenty of wiggle room for mistakes and substitutions. I've found myself building and using a huge variety of operators just within these past couple of weeks that I hardly ever considered before.
this process of discovery is kind of what drew me to 5 stars in the first place - they feel like Arknights' biggest toolkit, just a box full of weird shapes that only fit in weird holes. I think its great that even with how much powercreep has been happening lately, Arknights still has enough depth that playing around with different niches can make the game feel so different.

Restraining orders may be made on conviction (section 360 SA 2020) or acquittal (section 5A PHA 1997) for any criminal offence. These orders are intended to be preventative and protective. The guiding principle is that there must be a need for the order to protect a person or persons. A restraining order is therefore preventative, not punitive.
Restraining orders can only be made in respect of the defendant (not the victim or any witness).
For a restraining order on conviction, section 360 SA 2020 provides that a court (in the course of dealing with an offender) may make a restraining order for the purpose of protecting the victim or victims of the offence, or any other person mentioned in the order, from conduct which
      -amounts to harassment, or
-will cause a fear of violence.
For a restraining order on acquittal, section 5A PHA 1997 provides that a court may make a restraining order if it considers it is necessary to protect a person from harassment by the defendant.
This necessitates an evaluation by the court of the evidence before it. It will require the court to determine whether there is sufficient evidence in front of it to enable it to form a view that an order is necessary. Restraining orders on acquittal are civil behaviour orders and therefore the standard of proof is a civil one (R v Major [2010] EWCA Crim 3016).
The case of R v Khellaf [2016] EWCA Crim 1297, provided the following four principles that the court must take into account when considering ordering a restraining order:
The court should consider the views of the person to be protected
No order should be made unless the judge concludes that it is necessary to protect the victim
The terms of the order should be proportionate to the harm which it is sought to protect
Particular care should be taken when children are involved to ensure that the order does not make it impossible for contact to take place between a parent and a child where such contact is otherwise appropriate.
R v Awan (Osman) [2019] EWCA Crim 1456 reiterated the principles above.

The thing is though HG has a big question in their hand but doesn't know the answer to it, What type of game that thier supposed to make here, a game for casual or a game for tryhard? For you, CC and events being easy and streamlined makes it unfun as you are craving for the challenges and creative way to beat it, while for me, the event being streamlined and easy is what makes me keep playing it as I mostly came for the characters. Obviously, both of us aren't wrong on how we want stages to be done, but HG can't cater to us both.

I think burn out is inevitable in any game that has a consistent stream of content coming out, especially if a considerable amount of that content is only available for a limited time. Personally I just defaulted to following guides for most things, and only very occasionally I clear a stage by myself when I feel like trying to figure something out. For permanent stages, I just do them whenever, there's no pressure to clear them quickly, so I just do them when I feel like it, and there's no reason to use a guide unless it's the kind of stage that has a mechanic I dislike.
And for when I don't feel like doing something myself, AFKnights and channels like Oyuki are great. They let you turn your brain off and clear stages without thinking at all.
A little rant: Some guide makers out there complain when people don't think for themselves and make minor adjustments, and I do understand that many of them aim to teach you how to solve a stage rather than just showing you the solution, but many of their viewers aren't stupid. They just don't feel like thinking at all at that time and that's why they resort to using a guide. If I was wiling to think for myself, I wouldn't be watching a guide to begin with, I'd just do the stage myself

raising difficulty won't solve it at all
also a little reply for your little rant, if you aren't using brain at all then you are stupid. case closed
there's 263 total operator and the chance that someone who's playing accidently raising exactly the same OP as the guide probably closer to 0,09%
so if you hate so much to adjust and dont want to get complained, just raise exactly what the guide maker raising beforehand
there's no way that guide maker making 117 videos for each stage to match every single possible combine operator to match whatever each player own because they "don't want to think"
      that just insane demand

Some guide makers just don't understand that quite a lot of their viewers don't want to think at all and they get upset about that, even though that's just something that happens and there's not much you can do about it. It'd be like My Little Pony animators being upset that their audience is comprised of a not-insignificant number of adult male viewers.

In my opinion, general stages are and were never based around 6 stars, even when it first came out, there were absolutely busted 6 stars that completely nullified stages. 6 stars are like trophy’s you keep around, they’re fun to use and a source of pride, but nothing more than that (except CC, but I don’t play CC that much).
I’ve been clearing the new event with only 4 stars (except for Amiya and Texas, the reason for Texas is because I don’t feel like raising another vanguard) and it has been very rewarding, the 4 star pool is wide and diverse enough where it doesn’t feel like a challenge run, but you’re actually managing real soldiers instead of eldritch horrors and MEGA Gods.

I really hate calling CC easy, but CC 11 was surprisingly so. We received so many tools, from Horn to Dorothy, that basically solo the map.
You're right about stages becoming weirdly balanced these days. New bosses are all about disabling or debuffing ops in some way, FC EX 8 CM Eblana was actually hell, but I can only imagine how newer players might face frustration with newer bosses unless they succumb to the DPS meta. And according to the comments, even then...
But whatever, people will say you can just not use certain units. The way stage mechanics have changed otherwise is blissfully ignored. Guess the game should just release Vigilo 2 with legions of Emperor's Blades and Werewolves so tryhards might face something difficult. (As a microscopic brain, the werewolves probably die in Ifrit lanes, so maybe that's still easy for people)
But honestly, if you're truly burnt out to the point of doing AFKnights with extra steps, might be healthier to leave this gacha behind. Seems gachas will inevitably be powercrept, all meta becomes dps in the end. ..... At least we have copium of stall, harmacist, status effect rng still being viable ways to clear stages. Hopefully more weird units like Dorothy, Stainless, or Silence alter show up, Typhon seems promising unless she creeps Pozemka or some shit

Well that's sad to hear, but how long have you been playing the game, daily ? I don't think it's a question of power creep, it's a question of lassitude. You can't play the same game over and over again for 10 years, and the game isn't *that* complex to begin with. I mean, it's not chess, and as you say, even highest risk CC has been solved. It's not power creep : You're just tired of the game. This things happen, and it will happen to everyone in the long run except to some masochists.
I mean I'm at the point, after a year playing the game, thinking about going "niche" because I start to have everything I need in order to shut my brain and push random ops and win every map. I know for sure that I won't be playing for another year if I keep just pushing the "answer everything" problem solvers I have. But I also know that if I go niche I'll need to invest ressources into the "not so universal problem solvers" 5 and 4 stars, and I'm not even that hardcore of a player.
Anyway : As long as you're making videos, I'll be watching them.

Glad you found something to keep you engaged for the time being. I haven't felt the burnout quite as hard as you, but I've definitely noticed the powercreep when trying to push difficulties in IS#3. The mode feels DESIGNED around having Texalter (all the enemies with hovering including Highmore), which makes a lot of the runs feel same-y. The most fun I've had lately has been clearing events/bosses/IS/CC with only the 6 Abyssal Hunters. With the mod stacking they're certainly strong and can solve a lot of things with minimal effort (poor Eblana gets stalled permanently by Skadi/Specter), but a lack of consistent Arts/True damage, hard CC, and Anti-air can make some stages a big challenge. When blocking is off the table, you need to get creative with the limits of what AH can do. I've also started building out the Aegir contingent to do Aegir-only IS#3 pushes to give the AH some on-theme support. Best so far has been SW9, with Glaucus of all people being MVP (that bind is a savior so often). Of course, that includes Thorns but frankly he doesn't trivialize IS in the same way he does to most other content. A friend of mine does Country-knights based on events (Victoria-knights for CH 9/10/11 and Firelight, Columbia-knights for Dorothy's Vision, etc) which are fun to watch since he usually doesn't have access to the 'broken' members of each faction.
Cheers to you, Yii, and hopefully we'll see something new in the future that gets the fire going again.

Easiest example for me was FC-7 in the latest event. All I brought was my, at the time E1, Reed alter, Hoshiguma, siege, and guard chen. Had to replay the stage like three times to get my placements right, but it was fun to actually be surprised by the boss.

You shouldn't worry too much about it, it's just gacha content creator/long term player stuff. Eventually, your account is built enough to handle everything, which naturally reduces challenge levels. AK just has the slight skew from content creators that many of the well known ones fall into the tryhard/challenge category, along with the usual caveat of having so many built ops that it's easy to lose sight of what an average account looks like. This is especially true for limited operators because odds are you're *never* going to get Texas if you don't yank out the wallet in 6 months or a year or whenever she reruns as a mega low% pull that can be sparked (free choice after 300 pulls). Same goes for Chen Alter, Ling, Skadi Alter and even more so for Kirin Yato who will never rerun. Can't tell you how confusing it was being a new player a bit over a year ago, when everyone was like "just use Ash LMAO" (limited, never rerun, sniper op from a collab) and the likes.

What you said is true if you’ve been around for a long time and have more or less everyone in the game
That said, I think the greatest thing about Arknights is that it even now gives you plenty of freedom to figure out an above all _enjoyable_ way to play the game for yourself
Regardless of your experience, intelligence, raw knowledge, or preference in playstyle, the tools are present for anyone to have a reasonably fun time in Arknights, and I think that deserves respect even with powercreep going the way it is now
The powercreep may make using new stuff boring, but it doesn’t lock you out of using more enjoyable setups
It’s one thing to derive enjoyment from doing something a certain way, and another thing entirely to feel like there’s some material reward or other obligation to do stuff in a certain way, and I’m of the opinion that people who feel some obligation to play games a certain way even if they don’t enjoy it or will only play games if there’s some kind of material reward (in game or otherwise) simply don’t understand the value of games and what they are in the first place
Games can of course be made to tell a story or send a message, and to incredible effect, but at their core they are entertainment, things to be enjoyed however you want to enjoy them

My starting rule is that I don't use strong, meta units. That means no bagpipe, no chalter, no surtr, no silverash, no mlynar, no eyja, no texalter, no horn, etc. and recently I've started expanding that to no Nearlter, no abyssals, and other strong units that pop up.
Following that, I think hard about how I raise units after E2ing them. I keep the majority of my units at e2 lvl 15-20, with exceptions made for underperformers and low-rarity units: for example, I have a S2M3 Mr. Nothing with a maxed module, and the same deal with Bubble. I spend the resources I save on raising more niche units.
I've found that it helps to have my limitations be more concrete--in this case, built into the development of my account--and I regularly reassess my limitations to help keep things on track. It forces me to either engage with enemy mechanics or find clever ways to skip them, and it's made me a much better player.

Personally, I try to do most content with my OG team, the newest of which is W. Using old-school tactics relying on defender blocking, good placement, and carefully-timed skills instead of just unga-bungaing the latest DPS monster onto the field definitely makes new content harder to clear but feels a lot more rewarding too.

My goal from early on is to get good enough at the game to be able to build any operator I want. Take Genshin for example, I have enough resources and powerful characters to beat most challenges and be able to grind out / fully build a new character within a week. That has been my philosophy for this game too: build the strong characters first, let them carry me through events / farming, and then I can build a fun / not-meta operator like Whislash or Indra or Skyfire. But for gameplay reasons, Mountain or Eyja are just too good so I'll build them first.
I haven't hit my 1 year of playing this game yet, but I can't allow myself get burnt out as long as there is new characters to get or build. Also the story / writing is pretty good in arknights.

I enjoyed this video because I dont L90 every op and have had fun playing with lots of units with few 90s, but have been genuinely worried where my end game is. Like I know I like to optimize but I dont like hyper optimized skill activations because I cant know how often I failed because of a millisecond of burn.
So low step is probably my end goal, because its going to allow me to trust farm everyone I want, while still allowing myself to inch towards the inevitable E2L90M3/6/9 team I will have.
    Thanks for sharing!

So it's basically like Mario 64 least A-presses speedrun? Sounds cool. I wonder if it's possible to beat a map with a half-step.
Anyway, I know you kind of touched on nicheknights clears all feeling the same to you since the strategies are the same, even if the operators are different. But how about this idea: randomizerknights
Since we're already taking ideas from speedrunning, let's take another - use some sort of random number generator or random name generator to pick your ops completely at random. It sounds simple, but if your problem is that nicheknights clears all end up being roughly the same, and metaknights clears end up being exactly the same, then randomizing things might be exactly what you're looking for, if what you want to do is find novel solutions and new synergies that happen to work really well.
Be like the one guy who borrows my fully built out Tachanka every single CC. I don't think Tachanka has been meta... literally ever. But there's clearly *someone* out there who likes him enough to give me free store credit every CC, and that led to me using him a lot too. It turns out for example that having a 4-range Dualstrike is actually really, really good for clearing out fodder so your main DPS can hit the big targets - and though it takes a while to charge the skill, his S2 can really put the hurt on minibosses, like Brigadier.

Is this a hot take? it seems not, regardless of that I want to say it.
My take is, if 3* still be the base on how Arknights design a stage, that means all other operators is just a flavor. So what about EX and S stage or CC above risk 18? Like Yii said, they're still being designed around specific gimmicks: two or three types of crowd control (shifting is a crowd control).
Playing Arknights with their low and unchanging difficulty floor is really all about preferences. What gimmick that you like and what operator that you love or even your current state of mood, then use that as your niche or clear base. The predetermined operators from nicheknight will always change, either to a direction that you love or hate, so basing your entire journey to it will of course have a potential to make you feel bad.
The only 'real' restriction is familiarity and ease-to-spot niche when you share your clear to others.

I'm a new player just a few a month ago start playing arknight maybe for like a 3 or 4 month idk anyway let's say I'm suck. So I stuck to watch yt turtorial myself and try to use my own op for clearing the stage, sooner or later my gameplay became more clean and with more op in my team I feel like the way I'm playing arknight just became more and more diverse. I don't know the old Player feel but, as a new Player I feel that arknight is became more interesting because of the variety op and stages. I also wacth yt for like meme or just some random review on some operators. Maybe, just maybe I think the game is not just a simple tower defense game. Maybe some people just want the story of arknight, maybe they want the cute op, idk. The point is, the way people enjoy arknight is different, I myself enjoy the game play but I'd like to read the story more and find it more interesting. So what I'm trying to say it's, arknight just changed to try fulfill various wishes, maybe the game be less challenging but the story got better, maybe the op got too broken but the skin got better and that's make new Player like myself want to play the game more. At the and of the day, that's just my opinion, and excuse me for my bad English because this is my second language.

So then why does Global have the lowest CC rank clears out of all servers? Only 1% of people got above r27 while in JP it was 10%.
So no 6* don't make the game easy nor break it. Also you can look at IS clears as well for IS2. Same thing.
Maybe the "broken" 6* are actually needed because people are too bad at this game.
Also post an IS3 A15 clear with what ops you consider balanced.

I think the main problem that most gacha have is that they have to pick between pleasing the majority (which are always casual players and there's nothing especially wrong with that) or a minority which want higher difficulty stuff. Granted, there are ways to please both parties with mechanics that aren't "hard" but rather "expanding in usage" in a sort of way, but eh you get the point.
