RWS has opted for the popular 9 mm Luger caliber for its initial release, influenced by its ballistic properties. These properties include efficient energy transfer, manageable recoil, and a substantial magazine capacity in most handguns. The ammunition is specifically designed to be suitable for widely-used subcompact class finishing shot pistols, meeting the particular requirements of finishing shots and hunting protection.
The newly developed finishing shot cartridge features a seven-gram (108 grs) heavy solid copper hollow point bullet design that offers reliable penetration while aiming for a significant degree of expansion. The monolithic bullet construction is engineered to penetrate even the tough hides of large boars. Additionally, the bullet can expand up to 2.5 times its original diameter. This prevents overpenetration and thus reduces the risk to the area behind the target during a finishing shot. RWS has tailored the new cartridge for complete energy release upon impact, ensuring rapid effectiveness for the finishing shot. A nickel coating on the bullet decreases barrel fouling, while a special case coating is intended to enhance lubricity and thus the reliability of the ammunition.
