  • After experiencing the 791 HP ‪@Mercedes-AMG‬ S 63 e Performance, MotoMan tries another ‪@MercedesBenz‬ S Class PHEV: The 510 HP ‪@mbusa‬ S 580e Plug In Hybrid. While they are both PHEVs, the Mercedes S580e is vastly different from the Mercedes AMG S 63e - everything from set up to its complexity which almost makes the Mercedes S 580e PHEV feel like it is built from an entirely different car . . .

    To be clear in terms of the options game: The inteior is not $3,110 extra for the color, that color combo is available as a free option. That extra is for the "exclusive" interior which adds three things:
    1) Nicer leather on the parts aside from the seats, so that means upper and lower dashboard and upper and mid door panels replace MB-Tex with Nappa leather
    2) Suede headliner
    3) The additional wiid trim with the little ambient lighting strip on the back of the front seats.
    Hope this helps!

    Hey Motoman, I can’t wait for you to test the new Cayenne Turbo. It’s got 750 hp!!! It’s an E-Hybrid and the electric motor is a bit underpowered at around 166hp compared to the X5 50e that’s got 200 hp. I sure hope you also test the BMW…🙂

      A 26.6 kWh hybrid battery to achieve 60 kW isn't all that amazing. If this were a pack built from Kia BEV cells, less peppy, it would be charging at closer to 80 kWh. Did they somehow just use EQ range and cost optimized cells for the S-Class PHEV battery? That would explain the barely 2C charging and only 140-odd hp. Utterly unimpressive, uninspired and lazy engineering all in my book.

  • @javim2589

    The S class is so far superior than the eqs. All the EQ line is a sort of "nice try" from Mercedes but i just can´t take it seriously in comparison with the current ICE alternatives in the same brand. This S class looks just epic from almost any angle and the EQS is hard to actually find a good angle that looks good. Maybe is decades of design tradition but sedans like the S class are just perfectly proportioned.

    Great review, fantastic car and a good value for what you get.! With BMW, Audi and even Cadillac hard loaded all 80,000 and up the 139,000 for the best is not a terrible price to pay! I do worry about the reliability and service issues with all electrical components in short supply if it breaks the waiting for parts is now months not weeks and for 139,000, I would be upset!

      After 10 months with a 2023 X5 45e, it is for me. I plug it in daily and average 90% all electric miles monthly getting ~28 miles range in January and ~40 miles in August. The B58 is great when you need it but the electric motor gets me almost everywhere.

    • @kylem324
      @kylem324 11 месяцев назад +3

      I would imagine there are quite a few possible buyers. For a variety of reasons.
      The idea that the EV components might be less reliable… The moving parts are far less than ICE. And recent Mercedes engines have required a fair amount of maintenance to keep on the road. Now do either of those matter for the first buyer who will own this for three years. Probably not. But I do imagine most of these buyers will prefer to plug in their car at home, as it will mean on their daily commutes they will rarely have to fill it up with gas, which is less refined than plugging it in to charge at home.

      Clearly spelled out in the episode: They way they drive. This has the feel of a Mercedes. It demonstrates their knowledge through years of experience building the S Class. The EQS is not that. They drive like a bigger, heavier Lexus RX. Is that terrible, no. Is that different? Yes. And for the folks that are looking for this type of car/experience, my money would be on the S.

    The secret that nobody tells you with EV or Hybrid cars, you will be going through more tires than a gas powered car. Tesla's eat tires and I'm sure with the weight of this car you'll probably find a drop of about 34% tread life than with a S500 or S580

  • @Cloxxki

    It bugs me to no end that we can hide 120 kWh under the floor of a sedan shorter than this S-Class, and you'll only notice with the height of the floor under the rear passenger's feet. But a 26'6 kWh battery, that just eats away hundreds of litres of cargo space, that a basic BEV with 120 kWh somehow DOES have. And hey, this car doesn't even have a rear motor, it's a glorified starter motor! As with QE, I'm sad to say, horribly lazy engineering and unworthy the price tag. With the battery size, the starter motor could be a good chunk better, and the battery hidden better. The EQC is a converted GLC and hit hides 90 kWh or so somehow.

  • @MadHolms
    @MadHolms 11 месяцев назад

    why? why? why can't they hide better than front-facing camera, is like acne on a teenager's face. They could do a better job on the S63, why can't they use same approach on the regular S, .... :(( this bugs me the most ;)
