From 1960 to 1973 I walked past here ever day on my to work. I lived in Roseberry Street, off Milford Place and worked as an apprentice at Turner Machinery on Stanningley Road in Bramley. I walked up Milford Place to Canal Road then to Armley Road to get the bus to Turner's. Turner's were the leading manufacturer of tannery machinery and also made plastic injection moulding machines.
Thanks for this fascinating history. I have been to the museum a couple of times. It is well worth a visit. Hope Leeds City Council are going to keep it open. They are considering closing Abbey House museum in Kirkstall.
Superb overview and the way it was brought to life with some of the owners you mentioned. PS, I too was brought up within the sound of the bells of Christ Church.
I was born in 1952 in Bramley just up the hill from the mill. My childhood was spent along the canal. It was a dirty depressing place and one must not forget the working misery of such a place.
Amazing! Omg smashing... Makes me want to go again to Armlet Mills.
Thank you, as always, Mariusz!
Brilliant, used to live not far from there in Rodley. Many thanks for sharing with us.
Thank you Karen
