    It's been 11 years. I've changed, I hope you have as well.
    The one question that kept us in the comment section pondering was that who's the best metal act. It usually came down to 2 bands - Metallica and Iron Maiden.
    Metallica, the most famous band that ever existed, or,
    Iron Maiden, the most famous band that existed without mainstream airplay.
    I've travelled far and wide to unravel this mystery and have come to learn that IT DOESN'T MATTER.
    Both these bands are legendary, and are approaching their retirement. Let's appreciate them while we can. It's who we have left.

      That's why all those gods/kings of metal should personally teach younger ones, by taking them under their wing, replacing them eventually, when the fateful time comes. There are some whose skill and talent is so unique that none might be good enough, but it's worth to try.

      @@sanfranman4919 Either way, I dont get the big deal with that song. And for me Maiden are by far the no 1 band ever. But Hallowed has this enormous repetitive bit in the middle towards the end. Like minutes of the same riff over and over. I could think of two dozen Maiden songs that far surpass Hallowed, including a few recent ones.
      Each to his own ofc. The song is considered quintessential in live concerts by most Maiden fans, so I guess Im in the minority :)

      @@sanfranman4919 Now, on a side note, you got me curious, so I went and checked what the suit was about. It involved 6 lines. Not that they shoudl have done it or anything, but it was quite a small part of the song.
      Interestingly, on Wiki, it says Harris explained it by saying he had used these lines as placeholders and didnt have time to change them before the album went to production.

    Yes, this song is so hard for them and they are unable to perform it because they suck so badly even after 30 years of playing songs 3 times faster and more technical than this. Get a grip people, they were just fucking around. There are hundreds of thousands of 15 year old kids who can play this song, you really think that Metallica couldn't do it if they really tried? If you haven't been living under a rock, you'd have known that Metallica released an album called Garage Inc, in which they covered tons of songs in a way that wouldn't embarrass non of the original artists. If there is something that Metallica can feel proud of nowadays, when they can barely put out an original album (and even when they do it sucks compared to their older stuff), it's that they can cover the shit out of any classic heavy metal song from the 70's and 80's and put insane amounts of energy into it like no other band.

    I get the impression that they just randomly started jamming to this song without having any idea how to play it, Lars just started playing the drum part and egged on the others to join in. Ever tried to randomly play a song you hardly ever practice? You can tell James couldn't figure out what key it was in at first but as soon as they figure it out, and they figure out fucking QUICKLY it sounds dope. To put it another way, it took metallica about 10-15 seconds to figure out how the play the song as a cohesive unit to the point where it sounded pretty damn good.
    Bet a normal band couldn't pull that off.

    looks like haters are the most loyal Metallica's update watching guys...lol LET'S CLEAR SOMETHINGS NOW...
    1.metallica is a pure thrash metal act.
    2.every type of metal genre out there comes under ROCK...METAL IS A SUBGENRE OF ROCK
    3.the band produced some rock albums doesn't mean that THEY ARE NOT LOYAL TO THRASH ND BULLSHIT ALL GOING OUT THERE
    4.It must be considered that PURE THRASH METAL ARTISTS CAN WRITE A COUPLE OF HARD ROCK ALBUM and BECOMES NO.1 ON BILLBOARD ND OTHER...this doesn't RUIN THEIR LOYALTY TO METAL it states that THEY ARE MUCH MORE TALENTED TO WRITE SONGS OTHER THAN THEIRS RESPECTIVE GENRES...
    5.IF REQUEST ARE MADE A TRUE ARTIST SHOULD BE ABLE TO COVER MOST OF IT.
    6.making music only with a respective genre is not loyalty ITS JUST LIMITING YOUR TALENT
    7.metallica EXPANDED THEIR FANS(FAMILY) UNDER WHOLE ROCK N ROLL BY USING DIFFERENT GENRES...
    ND MADE MORE MONEY AND FAME THATS BUSINESS.
    8.METALLICA AND BLACK SABBATH are the ONLY TWO PURE METAL BANDS inducted in THE HALL OF FAME MAKING THEM LEGENDS OFFICIALLY...the reasons are BECAUSE THEY EXPANDED MORE IN ROCK rather than OTHER LEGENDARY METAL BANDS. AGAIN BUSINESS BUT WITH RESPECT...
    8.DOING ONLY WHAT YOU DO BEST...IS JUST NOTHING NEW...PRODUCED A MASTERPIECE OF IT BUT AGAIN IT'S JUST THE SAME...good thing only for A limited audience...

Its not possible for any true metalhead to like one band only. Our allegiance should be more towards Metal , Good Metal rather than specific bands. Both Bands are legendary and i simply cant imagine my life without either of them.

    Metallica likes Priest too, who also influenced Maiden. Metallica do a cover of JP's "Rapid Fire" live often...one of the first speed metal songs (1980). Its here on the tube. The english metal influence goes: Sabbath early to mid 70s, Priest late 70s to early 80s, Maiden early 80s onwards....all of which influenced early 80s Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, who all covered Priest Songs early on. Heck even Van Halen in the late 70s covered priest tunes! Priest were really the ones who turned the slow deep 70s sab metal sound into the fast sharp 80s metal sound...JP are the bridge between sab and metallica.

    • @donuts359
      @donuts359 10 лет назад +2

      I think it would be more accurate to say that they all all influenced each other, especially since Maiden was formed about 5 years before Metallica

    • @RocknJazzer
      @RocknJazzer 10 лет назад +3

      MrZealot20 Well yeah eventually they all kind of influenced each other, but i see that as unfortunate pandering. Priest&Maiden began losing audience in late 80s after the rise of metallica, slayer, death metal from one side, and from hair/pop metal at the same time from the other side. They felt their styles were too oldschool so they both tried to get more modern. Both tried poppier more radio friendly metal songs, and even synth guitars for godsakes. From 85 onwards they were starting to mock what they originally inspired...priest moreso than maiden. after JPs hairmetal phase failed (ie turbo & ram it down), they desperately release Painkiller...so cheesy in its mock tough heaviness and dumb lyrics....a blatant bandwagon jumping to a heavier style as a last resort to save face after the hairpop metal fad was fading and deathmetal was still on the rise. So priests last true album was 84's defenders of the faith. After that they became charicatures of themselves and lost cred. But I love both JP and Maiden up to 84. I count Maidens last true album as Powerslave. So many older metal bands changed around 85 to follow the new fads either way, and tossed their oldschool charms, which I find a shame...as in retrospect the oldschool metal sound held up a lot better than hair metal and even thrash+death metal at this point imho.

    • @PetterDragland
      @PetterDragland 10 лет назад

      progjazzfusion Maiden didn't use synths to be more mainstream, they used them to enchance the sound. The best Maiden album is by far SSOASS and on that album the synths are just perfect and gives so much more to the whole experience. The peak of Iron Maiden must have been around that time, though they actually are much bigger now than in the 80's.

    • @RocknJazzer
      @RocknJazzer 10 лет назад +1

      maiden and priest both peaked around 83/84...they were both just huge at the time...I was a fan then and saw them live. After 84 they were not as big, and were seen as more oldschool bands trying to freshen up with synth guitars...lots of backlash on that from fans then. The hot new metal styles after 84 was either pophairmetal bonjovi poison type stuff on one end, or slayer metallica type stuff on the other. preist and maiden were your older brothers bands at that point...not as cool...not fresh. Maiden is not bigger now...they could not sell out most us cities they did back then...they are just more established like the stones...so have the branding+image down in everyones mind young and old, kinda like kiss & ac/dc today...they cruise by on name recog alone but actually suck now compared to their heydays.

I would love to find an old nhobhm type group that is strong in the prog dept too, but I havent heard any, and I looked, so dont think there was any back then (late 70s early 80s). If anyone knows any let me know but I heard most all obscure nwobhm & prog of that era and have not heard a group that equally combined both back then.

    Can You image Lars playing with Maiden ? Fuc### Nicko! Still missing Burr !

      actually Burr was one of the greatest drummers in the world and Nicko is too, but none of them is as good as the other one. So do not compare Apples with Tomatoes.
      Lars actually is not able to play songs as Nicko and i do not think, Nicko could play the old Songs of MEtallica (Master of puppets, Kill em all, Ride the lightnign) as good as Lars played it. He had kind of a groove, that was special. Actually i like the style of Nicko most, but Burr is great too. Lars is just a bad drummer, technically! His style is good ;)

      Nicko thinks double bass is "undrummerish" so i don't see him be able to play those songs...

      walamonga1313 they are just messing around with the song, no shit its sounds not really good, gosh you people are stupid

      @annonimoose1067 11 лет назад +1

      fletchyycams sorry to disappoint you buddy but I am, as a matter of fact, not stupid. Yeah, I'm aware they're just jamming the song, thanks. But when I jam a song with basic drum beats I can at least make it sound moderately good, and hold a consistent tempo somewhat.
      I love how I'm stupid because I can recognise bad drumming and you can't. That makes sense.
