During the 1965 India Pakistan war, Indian Army Centurion Tanks had to face the M48 Patton tanks of Pakistan which were touted to be indestructible. Battle of Phillora is known for the bravery of Mahavir Chakra winner Major Bhupinder Singh who led the Hodson’s Horse to cause a large scale destruction of Pakistani M48 tanks. Even though his tank was hit on several occasions, he continued to remain in command and, by several acts of personal bravery, inspired his men to fight courageously.
