WOW. My sister in law had a mastiff that had issues with this and eventually succumbed to this, dying at about 6-7yrs old. I have a 10 month old pit bull & I've been letting him out AFTER he eats & he ends up running with our other dog. So this is great information to know. I'll definitely be switching that up. He'll go out BEFORE eating. And then about 2 hrs AFTER eating. Thank you SO much. God bless 🙏😇
This happened to my Doberman guide dog… Luckily he survived the surgery… Took two vets to perform the surgery… Your description of how he was acting was exactly correct… He did have the extended stomach which was rock hard… many people come home and find their dogs dead due to this… He was also doing a lot of drooling and whining
This happened to our German Shepherd, had never heard of it before. He was only 4 years old when this killed him. And yes, before anyone chimes in, we did get him to the emergency vet, it was horrible. It's good to tell people about this, so their aware of it.
I have heard about this but didn't know anything about it... I have 2 big yellow labs and I just fed them and they're running around out in the backyard now..... I'll be more aware of this next time.
My sweet German Shepherd Greta died from bloat. It was beyond heartbreaking. I wasn't home and someone else was watching her. I don't leave my babies with anyone anymore.💔🐾
I had the preventative surgery done on my Great Dane when he was neutered at a year at 18 months. In the Philadelphia area it was around 3k for everything including a microchip.
This killed my brother's dog. She had a litter and one of the puppies was returned to him, and after the puppy came back she would often play really rough right after eating. One Sunday she flipped her stomach and the only emergency vet was over an hour away. She died on the way there. It was horrible.
I had heard of this problem when I bought my German shepherd puppy. When he was 12 months old he the the surgery to pin his stomach. Best thing I ever did for him.
This happened to my pity when he was a puppy I thought I had lost him. There was no way to get help for my dog, we had to wait it out. His eyes were rolling to the back of his head and I couldn’t get him up to move around but finally after a couple hours he came out of it, and I think the stomach somehow untwisted itself because he was rolling on his back and then he completely rolled over at one point, so I’m not a vet and I’m not telling you to roll them over, that’s not what I did. He did it on his own. I don’t know what helped him if that was it, but he was fine. he’s a whopping 65 pound American Staffy And I can say specifically because I’m owner and handler. He’s a knot head, stubborn, hardheaded I guess that goes along with stubborn, bullheaded and the best damn dog I’ve got right now and he’s highly intelligent. I’m very happy he came through his problem. Thanks again Garrett for a very informational video that most people don’t know but do now.
Are you sure that bloat was the cause? Usually it's said that there's no chance without surgery in 4 hours after the first symptoms appeared. Never heard of any dog surviving it without surgery. But anyway, I'm happy that your pity did well after it
Sadly that happened to my 14 year old Great Dane but due to his age the recovery on the breed and age would not be too highly recommended because he would not make long. Great Advice ASK9
Remember when I visited a first aid course many years ago. It was at a great Dane club and some breeder joined to share their experiences. One breeder said he lost 3 dogs through it in his life and he was already cautious. 2 could been saved with surgery. Spreading awareness is so good, especially as it can happen to certain dogs even if the owner is so careful. Good that there's a surgery now to prevent it.
My family has a lazy pit bull who doesn’t run at all and has constant access to kibble he normally just sleeps and lays down and eats/drinks when he’s hungry or thirsty
Exactly, I feed my pity later on in the day or morning, there’s no set time that I truly feed. However, it’s after he’s had a good hard run, I feed raw as well. 👍. My Knot head is an American Staffy.
Good to know. After my Corso eats I go for a walk & do a light jog thanks man also going to get a herm sprenger as he needs some work when walking and there’s people working by or other dogs. He’s very timid, shy & scared but I have hope thanks to your videos
It happened to my GSD this week. Vomiting white foam, pacing, whining, visible boating. Went from healthy to gone in 4 hours. Definitely wise to take all precautions. It's just a horrible way to die
My beautiful 9 yo 50kg German Shepherd sadly passed away this week. He was on raw food and my husband gave him 2 scoops of biscuits. He was vomiting up foam for an hour, and looked very puffy. We thought he would be okay in the morning and went to bed. He passed away sometime in the next 3 hours. I wish I had seen this earlier 😔
@@ulutasatilla the whole household was vomiting with gastro that same weekend. Of course we were worried. Upon realising the symptoms the day after it all made sense. Even the best owners can make mistakes. So judgemental ....
This is terrible. I feed my doggo canario smaller meals throughout the day and never kibble. Exercise a good time after chow time. Have you ever seen what's in kibble? Take a bite. Go to a dog food factory hell Go to a slaughter house.

Top advice, I gave my Doberman a Gastroplexi for bloat prevention. Her life is too important to take the chance. 🤗

We have a giant breed dog - raw fed - i think kibble contributes too bloat. But we dont feed till after morning walk and shes been home 1 hour .

What an incredible explanation of Bloat…Thank you so much!

I have the 45min rule with my staffordshire bull, has he ran around? I set a timer for 45min until i see him completely laid back, then i feed him

Hello from Texas 🤠
Thank you for making this video.
When my Cane Corso gets spayed this will be done as well. Sucks they wait till 12 months now to do it.
Might seem annoying but that 12 months makes a huge difference for your dog.
Thank you. A well needed video.
Great info and heads up

Our vet is stiching our german shepherd when she is getting fixed....I lost a shepherd to this....
Amazing and very important video!
Thank you for this video.
Can this happen to a GSD??? I thought this was a retriever problem!
It's very common in GSDs.
Any large chested dog

So these dog have to Sit and wait a little while after they had their meal ?
my current dog sits on the couch after he eats
So how do we prevent this? Not letting them play after feeding them?
Yes. Trainers and vets recommend giving your dog a long lasting chew after a meal for at least 15 minutes.
Thanks so much ❤
i have a maltipoo 5.5 kg and 19 months, so i wanted to ask do maltipoos get bloat and if they do how do I prevent it?
This is common issue with big dogs
And don't overfeed them
This was a very scary video.
How about a Cane corso bath training video or Rottweiler lol show how too properly scrub them good not just rinse
I've always hated the term "bloat"
People think it's gas.
No. It's death. Needs a scarier term
What about burping?

i genuinely don’t understand how you could think a dog vomiting foam for an hour and looking very puffy would be fine….
