I’m a cellist.... here’s a tip for fingering. Before we start, know that the notes are much farther apart on cello than violin. So, as an example I’ll use the D string.
1st finger= E
2nd Finger = F natural
3rd finger= F sharp
4th finger= G
And then there’s extended position which can be learned later... I’m sorry it just pains me to see people shifting to get notes that are in 1st position....

Marijke plays viola is better if you like lower sounds because it has the C string like the cello, and it plays an octave above the cello if you like those low sounds but not the cellos low.
Also if you think the viola sounds weird it’s probably because the one your listening to does. The smaller it gets the weirder it sounds because the instrument is not the correct size for the strings, but if they were to make it bigger it wouldn’t be able to be played like a violin.
Tips: You're supposed to use all four of your fingers when playing the cello. You're going to want to at least learn the C major scale, that way you can get a basis for where all the notes are. You want them to ring. Also, for your bow hand, you're going to want to angle your hand to the left, all the while making sure your fingers are relaxed and in the right position. When playing, the wood of the bow should be facing towards you, the hair away. You should be moving like side to side against the strings, not up and down. Learning that was a big breakthrough for me. You can hold just the bow and move it with your left hand to get the feel.You're not holding the cello properly either. It's supposed to be up against your chest, but at an angle. You want the grooves to dig into the side of your knee. Ultimately, you decide how it should fit, but you should be able to look to the left and have the peg in your ear. You want your left arm out more so you can easily maneuver between positions and strings. Your elbow should be out. You'll find it much easier if you do change it.The cello is my second instrument, so I'm not too versed on it, but I hope this wasn't too confusing and helped at least a little bit, lol.

Cello is so cool! I was a bit bummed because you played a song on it straight away and left out the trial and errors that obviously happened before that, it looked like you were doing magic and I thought: "What?! How?!" 😅 But now I know it's possible to play a song within a short time if you already have violin experience.
A question: how did you know how to shift positions on the cello? Doing it the violin way or did you look up tutorials first? And so cool you are working on an original song! I'm very curious for that, so I'll keep an eye on your channel. 😊
She was shifting by ear! The intervals are much bigger than a violin's but has the same principles of shifting positions. Because of her previous knowledge of positions on a violin, she was able to work out the geography of the cello in a short amount of time!
There's also something called 'note anticipation' that many string players develop after a while of learning. They can think of a note in their head and instantly jump to it on the fingerboard.
Same can be said for the reverse! Most cellists who have good ear training and a basic understanding of positions can shift on a violin after a few tries!
when it's easier to play the notes as to avoid a lot of string crossings. same principle in the violin.

OMG I'm am so happy that a RUclipsr violinist finally pays attention to the other orchestra instruments and try something new for once. I have been playing the violin for 4 years and I am a rising 9th grader. This school year, we had no more bass players in Orchestra so our director asked if anyone wanted to play and I shot up because I told myself "Playing 2 instruments is really cool!". Now it is the end of the year and I can play the bass better than most high schoolers!😊 The violin is still my main instrument but I promised myself never to forget how to play the bass.

I learned a few things from watching the video. The main difference between the two instruments (I was a violinist myself) is technique. Consider playing the cello as a second instrument and as a fellow cellist told me in her videos, Happy practicing!

Yayyyy I'm so excited! I've played the violin for 2 years, started self-teaching keyboard at the same time, picked up the viola about a month ago and picked up the ukulele about 2 weeks ago and I'm getting a cello soon. I've always wanted to play the cello (I didn't start off on the cello because it's so expensive and I couldn't get lessons at school) and I finally get too!
Also I am aware I already do quite a lot, but I'm a fast learner and violin is definitely my main instrument and probably always will be.

Hi, I'm a cellist as well. So if want to find E on the A string, you put your thumb in the bend of the neck and put your 2nd finger opposite and then put your 1st finger a centimetre above that is E
