Austin..... here's a little advice for you ...at 28, sit your ass down and write a book....you have old wisdom on young shoulders. In today's era of 'financial inequality' ....a book about frugality/financial minimalism...would make you a world famous author, the younger generation needs such a book. 😉
Building wealth from nothing involves consistent saving, disciplined spending, and strategic investments. Begin by creating a budget to track expenses and identify areas for savings. Prioritize paying off high-interest debt and establishing an emergency fund. As you build a foundation, start investing in low-cost options like index funds, and focus on continuous learning and improving your skills for better income opportunities.
I just started watching this young guy. What I like about him is "his honesty". I think many RUclipsrs these days are not honest in what they do and what they say. Somehow, my experiences say that Alex has clarity and honesty. I made several financial mistakes (I will be 49 years old next month). I wish someone would have woken me up back then. I used to overspend like anything since my early days when I started earning money. My earnings remained high mostly due to my qualification, but I lacked the wisdom to spend, and I had zero wisdom in investing it and growing it properly. By the amount of money I made, I would have been financially independent 10 years earlier had I learnt how to invest properly and how not to waste in useless stuff which I rarely used.
Years ago I was buying cheap Forever 21 sunglasses that I kept losing and breaking. I decided to get a good pair of $130 ray bans & I’ve now had them over a decade. It’s the only pair I’ve had since as well.
One thing I do to save money is, don't go into the stores unless you have to. Don't walk all over the stores if you don't need something and if you find something you think, I most have this, take a picture of it with your phone but don't buy it. Then for a week look at that picture everyday, asking yourself, do I really want to blow this money on this item. Normally after a week of looking at the item and talking to myself about the money, I almost never go back to buy the real item. I find just staying out of the store helps a lot as well. This as saved me lots of money.
Or you could just buy it and keep it for a week unopened/ unused. If you don't really want it after a week - take it back. I have taken about half the clothes I buy back.
my friends call me cheap, but I'm frugal, I've never had debt, worked 2 jobs to get my house in a cheaper area, get cashback, savings, discounts etc where I can, I dont replace anything unless it cant be fixed, I know work part time & I rent out my spare room on a Airbnb, I've got savings, bonds, shares and investments aswell as small streams of income. most of my friends are working 40 hours a week and up to their eyes in debt. the only debt I have is my house which I try to pay a little extra off each month. I'm happier now then I've ever been.
Your words of wisdom at your age is phenomenal! Knowing what enough is and knowing that your body is the greatest investment. You’re gonna go far in life. Keep up the amazing work and channel
I also save lots of money by using Walmart shopping online, then you just pick it up yourself. I never have to walk into the store and I never buy something that is not on my shopping list this way.
Yeah I agree that his missing some important aspects of why people use shopping app, even the delivery ones. I definitely save money this way. But that’s my only disagreement. He’s a smart guy.
You are wise beyond your years. I am a retired 67-year-old and the best thing I ever did was to invest in a managed S&P 500 account way back in the early 1990's. Yes, at times it's been a roller-coaster ride over the ensuing years, but over the long haul it's proven to rebound after every financial downturn. I also agree with and abide by your financially minimalist outlook. Bravo!
I started a new journey in my life and one of the main points I'm focusing on is my financial journey. It's has been a struggle to figure out what works for me and what doesn't. You're videos has definitely made me think hard about what my goals are and how to pursue them. Thank you so much, I love your videos.
Great sense of humour too. I laughed out loud when he mentioned his height and his doctor told him he’d stop growing but if you hit the subscribe button, he WILL GROW his channel 😅
I don’t know what you do for a living, but I hope it is working with young people (high school aged). What you are preaching is desperately needed in that age group.
Money is labour...where you put your labour is freedom. We are not consumers, the only purchases we make are investments for our future. We... as near 40 yr olds both sold our houses for a simpler life. We glamour camped on a beautiful North Queensland Austraian river front property for 5 yrs, very minimal rent. Saved and worked 8mths a year until we bought a bus that we could live off grid in. Now we have lived on properties for years... rent and utility free. We are growing all our veg again not only for us but many. Something I learnt very early was "Every time you part with money evaluate how much time did you work for that item???" If you want a particular product ....is it worth 15mins or up to 1 week for a new flatscreen TV of work..????and do you really need it????" Another great tip is "Every dollar that you don't spend is another dollar you don't need to earn!!" The world will definitely be better off without people consuming unnecessary amounts of garbage they don't need and getting into debt because of it!!!
I love how you talk about the philosophy of intentional spending rather than just tips. And your delivery is with love and gentleness, the world needs more of that 🙂
I’m very content with the things I have now..don’t need to buy anything. What I DO constantly wonder is if the small $ I’ve saved could be used more efficiently to make more money via investments, stocks, etc. Im whittling down the things I no longer need such as clothes, house decorations, etc.
You are my favorite RUclipsr ❤ greetings from Germany. I am also improving my English skills through watching your videos. Every time I walk my dog I listen to your wisdom and believe me - I walk my dog very often 😂😊
Austin, I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU for all the amazing content you put out there. There are many YT channels on minimalism, but your communication style and personality really resonate with me. Great stuff, super inspirational!!
As Warren buffet says if you haven't sold any shares you haven't lost anything, now is the time to buy investments while the the cost is low....Warren's advice works for me, DONT SELL WHEN THE MARKET IS DOWN....ITS TIME TO BUY
My $20 Mr Coffee maker went out after 7 years. I almost bought another one at the store. Instead, I called their corporate office, explained the issue, gave them my receipt and filled out their form. The person said they would send me an upgraded Mr Coffee maker mailed for free. I saved $20.
I've learned more from listening to this fantastic video, than from a lifetime of reading get rich quick books...I've subscribed and am a forever fan x
I’d agree with you with takeout food delivery but not grocery delivery. I think the big thing minimalism shows is that what is worth something to one person is not worth it to another. For example I hate food shopping, I have no problem buying chocolate but somehow just can’t get myself to the shops but buying takeout food is expensive. The few $ trade off of delivery saves me because I’m less likely to get takeaway food. Also I’ve shopped in the store and half the time I find I impulse buy whereas shopping online groceries I can’t sort by the cheapest price etc. what effective for some isn’t for others
Another good video. Thanks! I still have a major issue, though, with investing to try to get money for doing no work, especially when others, exploited workers, are harmed by the situation. Oh, I love your plant nurturing story. One year of care, which you got to enjoy in the moment, paid off in a very satisfying way. That is cool.
I would NOT automate bills that can vary month to month, such as electrical, gas, and water. I have heard of people getting charged thousands because of meter errors, or they had a variable rate and were not aware. During the Texas snow storm some people got screwed when they were charged crazy electrical rates.
At 20 years you have very Good Parents ! Long live ! Am 48 years old and I did many of the things you have advised us ! Now I need very good quality dental care ! Am teaching myself to be content where I am so I can enjoy my journey going forward ! You are a good frugal! Your home looks good n organized. I want to sell stuff I do not use anymore so I see what to do
Spot On! I live a minimalist lifestyle & budget. What I disagree with is to continue to drop money into an invest that’s losing money, while I agree you don’t sell, I disagree with continuing to add to it, that’s like tossing money into a fire. During times when the market is down shift to putting your money in investments that aren’t losing money into life conservative investments that aren’t or into invest mortgages. You’re still investing, but not at a huge loss.
Its not throwing your money into a fire. Its called buying LOW! That's how you get rich. That's how Warren Buffet invests. He buys LOW because he knows how to get rich. But you who do not know call it throwing money into a fire ...lol. You need to learn more.
Austin, thanks. Planning for emergency expenses is OK, but planning your life and setting goals is even more important. Sincere long term goals , can give you reason to limit and control your behavior. Set more advanced goals every few years. Whether you like it or not, you are in a race to build enough wealth to retire at a reasonable age. If you fail, the final years of your life will be your worst years.
So glad to have come across your channel. I was reluctant to watch this because I know I have some bad financial habits. But having my head in the sand is not serving me. Your advice is definitely something to think about. Thank you. I look forward to watching more of your videos.
I've been practising frugality for many years, but I find your ideas to be food for thought. This is mainly because my children are in their mid twenties and trying to find balance in their lives. One might be getting himself into the ratrace in Europe, the other into the downward economic spiral of Africa. I am listening and reconsidering, and many of your ideas will be topics of discussion with them.
I been practicing minimalist for 2 years and I found being content by the things I have by only buying things I love 100%, things I use every day, durability, maintaining it and keep it looking new, and being multi purpose. I wait at least a month before I purchase to see if I still want it. I have time to care for my things since I have less.
Great video.. I've grown more frugal as I've got older. I've saved money, time, and not controlled by my possessions. I am debt free aside from my home. When I do spend money, I spend money on experiences rather than things. Frugal, but still living.. 🤘
Just found your channel! I rallye like it! Structured, and as a non native speaker, your english is to me easy to understand. And the written things make it easy to follow! Thanks for speaking in a clear voice!
Thanks 👍💕💕💕! What I have heard from your good video , Contentment , good health, buying Quality and taking Very good care of our stuff so it lasts longer, buying stuff that adds Value to our lives, delayed Gratification , delaying gratification, money 💰 , writing down what we spend ...growing a plant and taking care of a plant like you did takes Patience ( am doing that ) need dental care ASAP !
Wonderful. Clear, well-structured messages with a talent for speech. I have shared some of your videos with my teenage kids to educate them a bit. Then you know what? I ended up watching them :-). Thanks for sharing the wisdom.
Brilliant video! But...Like a number of other people I'm going to disagree with the point on grocery delivery. Years ago I would take the kids grocery shopping with me and every time in addition to runnin around to catch them they would make spend more money than I had planned. With grocery deliveries, I could buy just what I wanted - and a couple of things for them as well, but under my control. It saved a lot of time, money and energy.
Austin , I just subscribed and started watching your videos. I'm sure you don't like the dirty looking grout between the tiles on your counter top but you are too frugal to replace the counter. The cheap way to fix this is buying a quart of masonry white paint and a cheap foam brush. Paint the grout white with the foam brush and buff the excess paint off the tile with paper towel. You will be amazed at the difference it makes.
It is so true about people want things fast and can not wait, taking a loan for renovation and not afford a new table so the store offers to have a monthly payment plan. All which will give stress in paying these things that you can not afford but you want things fast it is not at all worth it to me to have a life like that. If I can not afford something then I will wait until I can and it does not need to make me stressed about money.
My Bills are automatic for the most part but some cost more to auto than go pay in person. My utilities are paid by credit card because I get cash back. As long as they don't charge extra for it I'll keep it up.
Hi Austin. I think you have great advice. I do have one suggestion though that you really need to consider. You need to own your home. Paying rent is basically throwing money down a bottomless pit. Once you have paid off your "modest" home, you own it and it will save you more money in the long run. I bet if you sit down and figured out how much money you have paid in rent you could have bought or nearly bought a home for that. My brother has rented the same house for 15 years at over $650/month, starting at $500/month. Although that is cheap in today's terms, he has paid his landlord approximately $103,500. He could have purchased a house for $80,000 15 years ago and it would have been paid off by now.
Buying a house isn’t as rosy as many people like to make it out to be. You pay yearly property taxes, insurance, maintenance, more furniture, tools, lawn care, mortgage interest and a host of other fees and taxes when you buy like closing costs, plus the time commitment to maintaining a house when you’re a homeowner. Renters never have to deal with any of this stuff.
I have had a moka pot for a few years now and I really love it! It's also a great way to save money because I can make a latte that taste 95% as good as a $5 one from my local coffee shop.
What's one habit that helps you grow your wealth?
VTSAX. all the way.
Living below my means and investing the savings in mutual funds. Also, no mortgage and zero debt.
Saving, no matter what. Find ways to save. Invest your savings.
Austin..... here's a little advice for you ...at 28, sit your ass down and write a book....you have old wisdom on young shoulders. I’ve always wanted a tiny home. Loving with less makes me so happy.
Health is wealth
Brilliant. How the heck did this young man pick up such wisdom & sageful advice in such a short time on this planet ?!!
He mentioned in another video he reads lots of books.... Hey libraries are free! Woooo
He's lived abroad where people are less consumerist.
Nobody teaches contentment anymore. Thank you for this content.

The less you own it's easier to maintain and take care of what you have! Win win
I like my own comment
Years ago I was buying cheap Forever 21 sunglasses that I kept losing and breaking. I decided to get a good pair of $130 ray bans & I’ve now had them over a decade. It’s the only pair I’ve had since as well.
“I make myself rich by making my wants few.” ~ Henry David Thoreau
it's so freeing when you want less
A person is rich if save money not if spend money!

I appreciate that!
Delayed Gratification - So True....
Very Wise, our body, our being is our greatest gem, the greatest value, should be our greatest investment. Much to grow
Your wisdom and constant of this video is RUclips gold.
Thanks!

They charge $6.99 here unless you spend over $35, which I rarely do.
Menu planning is huge for me. It's too easy to get take out or drive thru. And you are right about paying the farmer or the doctor. Love that!

Most definitely but I believe its left left out by design. Society needs people who are wage slaves to serve everyone else.
He does this for a living

Another good video. Thanks! I still have a major issue, though, with investing to try to get money for doing no work, especially when others, exploited workers, are harmed by the situation. you are an absolute wonderful guy. you just fired up me to see the world in a completely different eye. thank you brother.
I would NOT automate bills that can vary month to month, such as electrical, gas, and water. I have heard of people getting charged thousands because of meter errors, or they had a variable rate and were not aware. During the Texas snow storm some people got screwed when they were charged crazy electrical rates.
Great video. I’m nearing retirement and really looking forward to a simpler life.
glad i found this channel, man
I'm glad you found it too!
I absolutely love your content! Wishing I knew what you know when I was your age! You will go far my friend! Please keep up the awesome work!

That video was on the money. Wish you were around when I was in my 20's; I'd have $80,000 today. Thank you so much for your minimalist advice.

Hey bro I've just discovered your channel, and absolutely love it! Thanks for making amazing videos
Just found your channel. I’m very impressed - stellar content presented in a concise, effective way.
your body is an investment - great tip!
Spend some, Save some is a good habit.
I can really say you have raised good kids and discussing the things you have learned from here is always a good idea 😊
Great practical advice❤ I agree with everything here accept health should be 1st
I agree with you about delivery apps - money totally wasted. Also everything else you said, spot on. Thank you!
You are a GREAT asset to all of us with your wisdom! Thank you 🙏
I been practicing minimalist for 2 years and I found being content by the things I have by only buying things I love 100%, things I use every day, durability, maintaining it and keep it looking new, and being multi purpose. I wait at least a month before I purchase to see if I still want it. I have time to care for my things since I have less.
Ur very motivating
So good I'm going to watch it again.
Great video.. I've grown more frugal as I've got older. I've saved money, time, and not controlled by my possessions. I am debt free aside from my home. When I do spend money, I spend money on experiences rather than things. Frugal, but still living.. 🤘
Very good points! Thank you!

Austin , I just subscribed and started watching your videos. I'm sure you don't like the dirty looking grout between the tiles on your counter top but you are too frugal to replace the counter. I agree! We can no longer go back to the past nor regret we have not done anything during that time, but we can always start now and do things right.
Yes...and the bank would have got at least $ 180,000
Buying a house isn’t as rosy as many people like to make it out to be. You pay yearly property taxes, insurance, maintenance, more furniture, tools, lawn care, mortgage interest and a host of other fees and taxes when you buy like closing costs, plus the time commitment to maintaining a house when you’re a homeowner. Renters never have to deal with any of this stuff.
I have had a moka pot for a few years now and I really love it! It's also a great way to save money because I can make a latte that taste 95% as good as a $5 one from my local coffee shop.
I love my moka pot! I use a french press most of the time, but sometimes you just want one cup of coffee!
You’re either frugal or you’re not…. I’ve given up trying to explain to people how to make the most of their finance.
Great and sensible tips!
