20:08 Yes, my brother in law bought a feed truck and he would go pick up a load and deliver it all day. He and my sister loved doing that while my 5 nephews ran the dairy. The year I did their taxes they made like 400k.
I got lucky and bought a 6,000 lbs silo feeder for $500. And my feed supply store delivers for free. It works out great for myself. Feed has always been my biggest expense.
Arms family Homestead has one of those grain holders that pulls behind his truck. He has a handle on the front to fill up his buckets. He just takes the grain holder to the mill and they fill it up. Check it out. Arms family Homestead.
Good morning, Al, Ben, and Jason! Seeing my favorite homesteaders all together is a perfec start to my weekend. Jason your fence video was very interesting. It was good seeing Spinning Jenny again!😂
Yes, humans love watching people clean and people build stuff, particularly time lapses. I think the satisfaction comes in seeing something that was chaos turn into something beautiful. 😊
GOOD DAY guys, another great podcast. Jason, the plow truck was putting down sand or slag I think they used to call it ( NO SALT in it ). Some of the channels I watch, Pete & Hillary ( just a few acres farm, Chuck & Sonya ( Sharadon Park farms) and some others have STOPED raising pigs because of the cost of food and butchering to make a profit, just a few acres farm used to buy their grain in bulk, they have three large bulk wagons and they would buy i think about 3 tons each of pig feed, laying hen feed and also meat chicken feed, they still raise meat chickens and layers, jus FOOD for thought !!
Good morning from northeast Los Angeles! The Eaton fire affected a town called Altadena. Mostly modest wooden 100 year old homes that have been in families for generations, so definitely not the multi-million dollar homes like in Pacific Palisades.
I’m very fortunate that KOFFE is only at the outside 3 hours from me and I can drive there once a year and feed all of my animals for one year. I looked up KOFFE when Ben first mentioned it and I was amazed how close it is to me 👍🙌✌️

Al, if you have Front Porch Forum or some other type of public forum, offer your grain bags there for free for recyclables or 5 cent cans. We had some big grain bags here in VT for our 5 cent cans and bottles, and we loved them, but they eventually fell apart! I'd love 10 or so of those bags. I bet there's more folks like me, as well. It's not the best solution, but it's one solution.

In NEOK where I live, the county puts plows on their sand trucks. They sand the bridges and sometimes the roads when needed. That might have been what your truck was doing, Jason. BTW, I'm REALLY enjoying your clean up and organize videos. Your homestead is tidy and beautiful, and you don't have a crew to help with the upkeep! Great job being diligent taking care of what has been entrusted to you.
People like to see how other people organize bcuz sometimes you do things differently. It gives people ideas on how to organize odd things that they hadn't thought of.
Al has Brutus to clean up after when he steals the wood scraps to play with! lol Jason, my house is never so clean as when I am procrastinating about doing something such as doing paperwork! I hope you guys are all safe and warm in this next storm! You may find out if the 1000 gallon tank will freeze 🥶 Ben you might need to get some ice spike shoes to strap to your boots to keep from falling on your icy hills! Looking forward to seeing your Handhewn video! Thanks guys! Stay safe, peace and blessings!
There are many types of snow. I understand that the first nations people in the North have many words for snow. Each meaning a specific type. These former Californians just aren't familiar with such things. Nothing to worry about.
Good evening guys happy TGIF. I’ve been out and about preparing for our COLD SNAP that we were gonna have you know our city will probably shut down and won’t be safe to be driving or anything so we went out and gathered all our snacks or food so we can hunker down. We did the outside preparing whatever we need to prepare. I think I got one tree I got cover or bring it in a small tree .,put in garage
@@davidgetchell3633 he had said if he had big enough storage they’d come and fill, but those carts may not come big enough(3 ton min I think he said)). I wasn’t thinking he’d take it there
Wow, 82! I love the organization videos you've been doing Jason. Too bad about the sled breaking on Lorraine when she was sledding. That was crazy when it cost $15! Plastic is brittle when it's cold! I'm glad your big tank didn't freeze. Sad that one of the IBC totes did freeze. I hope the ball valve didn't break. I'm glad they have a plow dump truck near you in case their is a major snowstorm. I'm glad that Jason and Ben got to play in the snow. That's too bad that the fluffy snow turned into ice so fast. I like the sand on the roads here in Minnesota too. It gets so cold that the salt doesn't work. Too bad about the fires in California! Those Santa Ana winds are crazy this year! Nice suspenders again Ben! You're all wearing flannel. It must be winter! I'm so glad that Sweet Potato healed up on her own. I'm glad you got her moved so quickly to protect her. Too bad that Yukon is too rough with the sows. He'll have some good meat on him. I hope you're not the 20% of people that can taste the uncastrated pig "boar taint." We raised a uncastrated pig and we couldn't taste it. He was given to us free with a purchase of 2 gilts since he had a hernia and castrating him would have killed him. It's great that you have that portable pen to use to separate animals out of the pens. Too bad about the cost of feed because it has to be in bags. The cost of the silo is quite a consideration to try and "save money." They will deliver it for free if you had a silo. Maybe Al needs to open a feed business so he can have the feed he needs on the property and hopefully make some money on the side? I'm glad he still has the female pigs to pick another sow to breed to Yukon before he's butchered. I think soy free feed is still a good idea. It's weird how it fattens up pigs. That's probably why we are all getting fat too, all the soy in our food now. Yes, feed was a huge expense when we raised our pigs. Skim milk puts fat on a pig too! Wow, 4 times the size pigs with some soy in the feed. The USDA okayed the use of pig heads and butcher leftovers to be okay to feed back to other pigs. Maybe that's in the feed you buy too? Only organic plant protein? Okay, no pig innards in the feed. I'm glad you got some more snow Al. Maybe you can get some fun in the snow now. March is similar here in Minnesota. You think the snow is done and then it dumps a bunch of snow. I put up a croquet course the day before Easter a couple years ago and it snowed overnight! It had been nice before that! Yes, 4 teenage boys can sure make a mess Ben! I'm glad you're back to the fence Jason. I'm glad you're getting some sponsorship on the fencing! Jason has to run an electric wire in the ground to jump between the electrified fence where his gate is. Digging a trench has to be hard to do Jason. It is sad that you don't get sponsorship because of all the spam sponsorship! Yup, don't click on the broken English sponsorship spam! I'm so glad you got Power Flex to sponsor you Jason! It would be nice if you got a sponsorship of a tractor Jason! I'm glad that you're harvesting all your guinea hogs that are ready to be butchered Ben. Yay, you kept the barn clean for the next class! So just one pig for the Hand-Hewn class. I loved our Berkshires because they have dark meat and it tastes like beef too. I like harvesting our turkeys when it's cold too. Our turkeys are too big to put in a refrigerator so leaving it outside overnight in a protected container is great before it gets cooked. Ice is not nice! Darn, golf cart is broken! Ouch! Good look getting better brake splines. Makes sense that the boys would show up for the good meats. It would be fun to see you all at a Hand-Hewn class at Ben's homestead. Thanks for this video guys! Always fun to watch!
AL,I buy my pig feed a ton at a time in bags, and then they get dumped into 55 gallon barrels. It's a little savings, and I like having feed on hand. Fortunately our feed bags are all paper so they can be burnt, recycled or just thrown out.
Jason, a suggestion. In the busy season put a bucket in the tidy, sorted room for the bits you do not have time, or inclination, to put back in its proper place. You can sort when you have time. Interesting talk as usual.
Hello 👋 Guys, Arms Family Homestead RUclips channel has one of the trailer grain bins you’re talking about and he uses it frequently for a variety of animals. They are a manual lift gate that is narrow enough to fill buckets from. I’m not sure of the capacity of the bin is, but I’m certain that there are a variety of sizes 👍💪🙌🙏🌈✌️🐽🐷🐖
I buy spent ethanol grain, not organic, but in my way of thinking it has been pre-digested and has probiotics. I mix it with a corn product called hominy 50/50 it results in feed that is about 16 percent protein. I have also fermented this. My pigs grow very well on it. Not non-gmo but very affordable. Again it's an ethanol byproduct.
Yes, watching a messy, overgrown property become a great looking place. All trimmed up and edged, the bushes pruned. Its very satisfing. I watch "OUTDOORS WITH ERIK" . He has professional stand up mower, a track forestry mulcher, a battery powered mini hand saw, a regular saw, tree/ bush pole saw, a tractor type brush mulcher, and a brush hog. He does big properties & tiny trailer park slots ALL FOR FREE!

Sounds like y'all got it figured out! Go for it! For sure if you don't someone will ! I wanted to do a "What'd you forget " store and along comes Door Dash lol
For Al, why can't the delivery tuck that can pour into a silo, instead pour into the totes? As long as you can move the totes in and out of right position?
Guys... I grew up in Monrovia which is 7 miles from Pasadena for reference. Lived there 30 years. Monrovia goes up the mountain, and then goes south. Like a big huge rectangle. We lived in the south, our first home hubby and I built was in the middle. I know MANY friends there still , some with loss, some with bad smoke loss. I need to check again, it wasn't looking good for the entire community. There is the huge tall mountains, with smaller "Foot hills" where literally a ton of people live on top of eachother. If you live above Foothill Blvd. Million plus homes...for basic homes. My home was 800 sq ft and over 700K. Yes..700. Wish I still owned that craker box. Calif is a total mess. Most communities are affected. The government there should be in prison for mismanagement, putting people in danger, etc. Seriously, no water in storage and no fire hydrants working. Those Santa Ana winds are also..NO JOKE. Hugs...
Al, look at the setup that Danial at Arms Family Homestead has. It's a trailer that he piulls behind the truck. He takes it too the feed store and they fill it up for him. I'm not sure how many pounds it holds, but it looks like it would be as big as the totes that Jason gets.. Would something like that work?

Another Great Podcast, until the next one 😉💞🇺🇸
What we like is seeing the progress of the homestead!!!!
Great discussion. The what is in my feed conversation was really interesting. If soy fattens a pig, what is it doing to us? See you next week.
Exactly!😳
Soy is 43% protein, it builds muscle not fattens. Beef cattle, pigs these modern breeds and genetics are efficient body builders
You three should do a farmer swapp. Each one of you goes to somebody elses farm.😂 That would solve the farm sitter problem 😂
I love the mowing vids because it looks almost insurmountable and it’s done for free and the recipients are in awe.
