I feel like the way the movie Furiosa was received is exactly what you’re talking about at the end there. The DEI stuff has had the opposite effect where now if people just see a woman lead game or movie they automatically think it’s woke garbage, and to their credit with how authoritarian and dogmatic the people at the top are being with this stuff it makes complete sense. It is important to be inclusive and have characters with different backgrounds (race, gender, ethnicity, class, etc.), but it can't be coming from a place of inauthenticity. When you force a character into a game from underrepresented groups, this becomes tokenism, a shallow symbolic effort to be inclusive. Any person who has any intellectual rigor in culture and power should be able to see this. This practice is antithetical to diversity, equity, and inclusion. If a game featuring an underrepresented group is done right, nobody should even notice. The character should stand on its own and mostly have a hyped audience behind it. One example I can think of is Blade (1998). It was so ahead of its time and most people liked it.

I think the last 5 overwatch characters that have released look like they could be related, they gave up on making character truly diverse and interesting.

People have already gone down this road, there are about 3 companies that own the majority stake in every other company there is. Blackrock and Vanguard is at least 2 of them, and how these companies can continue to put out trash that keeps loosing them money is because of ESG, as ESG is a social credit score (not for people, like in China, but for companies), which means the higher the score, the easier it is to obtain loans and credit and even do write-offs, and the worst part is that the money they get is basically your money, it's everyones future, like pension funds etc. that gets "drained", so that when the time comes, it isn't worth anything.
There are very big companies behind all of these things that are "reinforcing" this behavior by giving out loans if certain levels of diversity are included in the games. It's all very, very ideological from certain people and the normal shareholders don't care, because they still get their money.

What concerns me even more than these public metrics, is the companies hiring practices. They talk about how their company is super inclusive, and hires all of these amazing employees who aren't white or asian. Implies that they're actively ignoring white and asian applicants in an effort to replace those hires with non-white or non-asian employees. Because first it was white people hold too much of a majority, and has now spread to the Asian community. This isn't some "replacement theory" argument, however I do genuinely want to know if they hire candidates based on their qualifications, or if they're hiring based on what gives them the best race points on a chart. Universities in the US literally have done this exact thing, and have lost millions of dollars because of it. They actively ignored Asian and White applicants in an effort to diversify their campus, while publicly claiming everyone had a chance. I just wonder if major gaming organizations are doing this exact thing with a bias.

I feel like the way the movie Furiosa was received is exactly what you’re talking about at the end there. @@bottomlefto I know you are right, but as long as people buy these things it was inevitable from the start. I'm pretty sure most people don't really buy them, (especially the really expensive packages) but the profits are just to good for these companies to stop. Only a new regulation would make a difference, and I hope it comes sooner or later

It is important to be inclusive and have characters with different backgrounds (race, gender, ethnicity, class, etc.), but it can't be coming from a place of inauthenticity. When you force a character into a game from underrepresented groups, this becomes tokenism, a shallow symbolic effort to be inclusive. Any person who has any intellectual rigor in culture and power should be able to see this. This practice is antithetical to diversity, equity, and inclusion. If a game featuring an underrepresented group is done right, nobody should even notice. The character should stand on its own and mostly have a hyped audience behind it. One example I can think of is Blade (1998). It was so ahead of its time and most people liked it.

People have already gone down this road, there are about 3 companies that own the majority stake in every other company there is. Blackrock and Vanguard is at least 2 of them, and how these companies can continue to put out trash that keeps loosing them money is because of ESG, as ESG is a social credit score (not for people, like in China, but for companies), which means the higher the score, the easier it is to obtain loans and credit and even do write-offs, and the worst part is that the money they get is basically your money, it's everyones future, like pension funds etc. that gets "drained", so that when the time comes, it isn't worth anything.
There are very big companies behind all of these things that are "reinforcing" this behavior by giving out loans if certain levels of diversity are included in the games. It's all very, very ideological from certain people and the normal shareholders don't care, because they still get their money.

What concerns me even more than these public metrics, is the companies hiring practices. They talk about how their company is super inclusive, and hires all of these amazing employees who aren't white or asian. Implies that they're actively ignoring white and asian applicants in an effort to replace those hires with non-white or non-asian employees. Because first it was white people hold too much of a majority, and has now spread to the Asian community.
This isn't some "replacement theory" argument, however I do genuinely want to know if they hire candidates based on their qualifications, or if they're hiring based on what gives them the best race points on a chart. Universities in the US literally have done this exact thing, and have lost millions of dollars because of it. They actively ignored Asian and White applicants in an effort to diversify their campus, while publicly claiming everyone had a chance.
I just wonder if major gaming organizations are doing this exact thing with a bias.
