Unfortunately the photo that accompanies that Independent article is very misleading - it looks like the laser would be used to 'blow up' the debris (which makes the problem many times worse of course). The actual plan to change their orbit is much more sensibly thankfully!
I have a sincere question, I'm working on a global generational genetics project connected to nuclear weapons testing, it's morphed into including generational plant incidents as well. During this time of enormous positive growth in nuclear technology, are any companies moving in the direction of waste protocols and human internal exposure reduction? One would think mastering nuclear waste and venting and human exposure would be an incredible financial benefit for all?
The "to power AI" headline is... not interesting. AI wants to burn a bunch of power, sure. But it doesn't really have anything to do with progress on fusion R&D. And it isn't news. Their need for power is no different from steel, or aluminum, or any other industrial process. everybody wants cheaper power. It seems like everybody just feels a need to mention AI to stay trendy lately.

Well done (again) Cyd!

Fusion powers to run A.I suggests there is something wrong with the way we do AI.
Yay!
