    Most of the foxes I encountered did the same. They never rush to hunt the chickens. They observe insanely well. If they hear just a small noise, they run a couple steps and look back and observe the threat for a few seconds and leave. At the two instances where I shot my crossbow at them (and missed !!) they never looked back.

I'm not raising chickens as fox food. I'd try traping and releasing before killing them. But my ... "Chickens Lives Matter".... over the foxes.

    I doubt any of these ''animal lovers'' know how much damage this fox can do. It would slaughter every chicken here for sure if there wasn't anyone around. Yea it has to eat, but farmer is not there to feed it, it's basically taking his food away. For a chicken to hatch an egg it has to be around 6-9 months old. Now imagine you grow something that long, spend your money and time and this pest comes and just takes it away, and many times it doesn't even eat it. So someone to come and comments you to leave it alone is just stupid and arrogant as far as I am concerned.

    • @steveking3777
      @steveking3777 6 лет назад +2

      it is quite true that foxes will slaughter more than one or two, but this is because they stash food in times of plenty (as they see it). This is natural behaviour and enables foxes (as well as some other animals), to survive in hard times.

      100% agree with you. That fox has plenty of habitat to hunt in. The chickens are simply easy fun.
      Beyond that fact, foxes are known carriers of rabies, and foxes shouldn't be allowed to get accustomed to humans for that reason. Drive foxes away, keep them wild and alive, don't encourage foxes to be comfortable around humans. Too many people feed them right on their porches where their own pets eat.

    I think you tamed your chickens to much the chickens where just sitting there and normally the rooster would have alarmed the hens and jump up in a bush or tree for cover just the way they would have in the wild. your rooster didnt .so all the fox needed to do if you weren't there was snatch them and away and i vise you too close your chickens in for a few days. now that fox knows where your hens are he will come back at dusk so just pre warning you keep them in a pen or they get eaten by a fox and this is advice for people who have chicken dont tame them to much

      So if you have raised chickens from chicks, took care of them, fed them every single day you would just let a fox eat them? First, these people need to keep their chickens safe by keeping them in an enclosure. If they free range, that is fine as long as they keep an eye on them during the day.....That fox will definately be back for easy food...Second, if that fox was stalking my chickens like that, I would not have hesitated to put one through it's head. Once they find food like that they will always return. I do hate to kill ANy animal, but you also need to protect your investment AND food source

    Best thing to do is shoot one, hang the tail uncured at your properties edge and then hand the foxes head on a low pole within 50 feet of your chicken run, you will never have another fox problem for years to come as long as you leave it there to sun dry and warn any foxes of their destiny should they try to snatch a hen.

    ive seen too many lambs and chickens torn appart, some not even eaten. i think a fox getting a bullet in the head is far better than seeing lambs torn to shreds by a fox. foxes have to be controlled by farmers in the same way a shopkeeper may kill rats (for example).

      +Kabuki Kitsune i think you need to actually read up on foxes. you seem to know nothing about them ifyou think foxes are smaller than lambs or chickens! ive seen foxes kill lambs and chickens with my own eyes plenty of times. oh, and we dont get cyotes in the UK.....haha!

      Your terms defending sounds innocent (as that is how you should perceive it)
      The fox didn't get too close to the chickens.. as the dog was there.. If it had caught the chicken or even got near to catching it? Then you should fire a bullet in the air to scare it away..
      If you find it has already caught and killed your chicken? Then is it rightful for you to consider to take it upon yourself to justify the death and loss of your stock.
      If you do not play fair to the simplest actions in your life? Then life will not fair with you...
      It is also a good feeling to have made a justifiable decision (as it feeds positivity within you) ..
      It is the best medicine in the world to have.. and that is consideration and kindness in your judgement (when you know clearly that you have the power to take another life) you play god for that moment... and godliness feeds the man and makes him that more wiser.
