    After shooting the video, I learned of a less messy way to bleed the master cylinder from this Faye Hadley video: ruclips.net/video/8ir49HS-ePY/видео.htmlsi=mk-qwJ1qttimaPob
    I decided to buy this Dorman Master Cylinder Bleed Kit for the next time I need to install a master cylinder: amzn.to/3AZvmSZ

    Recently purchased a 2001 3rd gen 4wd SR5 with 100k miles. Purchase of this vehicle was in part based on this catalog of how to video as I enjoy wrenching. Thanks for adding to this awesome archive of content!

      You're not the 1st and you won't be the last person that shares this fact with us. Because Sean and I have created such an enormous library of information for 3rd Gen 4runners, people feel better about owning it because they have the necessary information to address almost every inch of the vehicle with detailed DIY tutorials.
      You're very welcome and thanks for the comment.

    Two things. First I would have recommended to bench bleed the master cylinder. They sell a kit that helps make no mess.
    Second I never recommend pushing any brake pedal to the floor. I have had master cylinders go bad because of this, on a lot older cars but still just something I avoid.

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  8 дней назад

      Hey Mark, somebody else mentioned the bench bleeding with fittings and hose. If you have a link to that kit, please share it. I was thinking I would just do what Faye Hadley did in a video I watched and make my own kit with fittings and hose I get at a hardware store. I think you told me about that problem with pushing the pedal all the way to the floor. I'll try to remember that next time and put a short 2x4 section under the pedal so I can't push the pedal fully to the floor.
      I saw a kit for sale from Dorman, but I'd like one with metal fittings instead of the plastic ones.

      @DarrenMyrum Hey Darren, we're stoked our videos have helped you fix up your rig. Just think of all the money you have saved and the skills you've gained doing your own work.
      And yes, we agree, Tanner and Josh are great guys. I'm glad we have gotten the chance to work with them.
      As for rear springs, it depends on how big of tires you plan on running and the weight you'll be carrying in the back.

    Two things, I have two unions with plugs in them that I use to thread on the lines to eliminate them from leaking while disconnected. Personally, I would have either bled the new master in a vise, or I made two short little copper lines that I bend back into the new MC. That way I can "bench bleed" the MC in the car without the mess.

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  8 дней назад +1

      I've had great luck just using silicone plugs. They're a lot quicker to install and remove to limit loss of fluid.
      I know the bench bleeding technique you're speaking of and it seems like a good way to go. BUT, we learned of this technique after we shot the video so we just did it exactly how the Toyota FSM instructs people to do it. You don't know what you don't know.
      I saw Faye Hadley use this technique. ruclips.net/video/8ir49HS-ePY/видео.htmlsi=pYmvlnwFTlEys3Gv

    Nice job. Would be nice to see how bleed the air from ABS system too because is hard to get air out from ABS.

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  8 дней назад

      @arinmirzayan3949 I agree that it would be nice to show how to do it. I've heard people just drive on a gravel road or trail and get the brakes to lock up to activate the ABS to push air out of the module, and then they bleed the brakes.

    • @21jimmyo
      @21jimmyo 8 дней назад

      I have a scan tool that has an ABS bleed function. It's a must if you change the master on vehicles with electronic ABS systems. I also have a Mighty Vac pressure bleeder. It forces fluid under pressure through the entire system. I've been able to bleed ABS systems on some cars with just the pressure bleeder, but use the scan tool to be certain that it was done right.

      @@TimmyTheToolman Excellent, I also like using the pressure bleeder. You don't even need to pump the brakes. You simply open the bleeders and the fluid flows out. The rub is that you need the correct cap for whatever car you are working on. I mostly use it when flushing out old fluid because of having to clean it after each use. Your videos are great and have saved me a lot of time and figuring out all the parts, torque specs, etc needed for a job. Thanks again!

    Another great video! I’ve got 260K on my 99 PreRunner. I did the big brake swap about a year ago and like Jordan I want to replace my original MC as preventative maintenance. I followed your link for the replacement part and it says it doesn’t fit my vehicle. I thought the MC (non abs) for the 4Runner & PreRunner were a direct fit? Thx!

  • @quillaja
    @quillaja 7 дней назад

    maybe this is a silly question, but since you're bleeding the brake lines as well (as I would expect), can you not bleed the master cylinder just by pushing the air out of the master cylinder, into, and finally out of the brake lines? Or in other words, bleed the whole system at once?
