I bought some clippings that had the beginnings of roots, like basically none and were in 3" nursery pots in regular potting soil, from someone local and he told me to keep them in a gallon Ziploc bag to finish rooting. I've kept them in there for about a month now, opening the bag every few days, and they've rooted fully and there's a ton of new growth. I'm in the Oakland, CA area, so humidity isn't great here either. I think they just grow super slow without humidity, but can survive. I'd just put them in there to root and then take them out if you don't want to deal with it.

I hear putting them in a zip lock bag and spraying them can create the moist environment you may need for your turtle vine. Just leave a corner open for ventilation. Hope they make it. :)

String of turtles does great in spahgnam moss! Roots are fragile though. This time , I made a small hanging basket and carefully laid them all over the top of soil, then covered with a bit of wrung out wet, spahgnam moss. Stuck in my propagation box. In a month should see some good signs of roots rooting.

I am propagating SOT right now both in water and sphagnum moss. I see new leaves and roots. 😃 I provide humidity, heat and light.

Do you have an update on the boobie cactus that was cut up?

I would try it with sphagnum moss, stays moister and saw really great results from others 🤗good luck

I use the Wendy's small salad tray. I cut a small hole in the middle lay the cuttings and mist the turtles and soil and also the inside of the lid. I repeat when I see that the lid has dried. Good luck.

I find string of turtles so hard! I’ve killed two plants and am trying with my third plant, but don’t have any confidence.

I would use the method shared by fellow-commenter Noel Graff, using sterile soil! (see her comment, above)
