This video was great and really helpful for when we were doing this so thanks a ton. One thing I would add from our experience is that we didn’t need to actually lower the frame to get it out or dislodge from the steering column.
We hope you will consider subscribing and joining the channel glad I could help trust me when you’re done you will have a great sense of accomplishment I promise
@@sharpcarco Hey Clay....I did my 09 DTS rack and pinion yesterday....and as you promised, I feel the sense of accomplishment. I never did a rack before and never touched a subframe bolt, LOL but noooooow, I can say, I did one before!. Thanks again for your inspiration.
Very quick to the point and not wasting a lot of time video which is what I like. Around the 14:10 mark those ratcheting swivel long box wrenches are one of the best sets of wrenches I ever bought. The set I bought are made by Mountain Tools which I believe they make for Matco Tools. Now I need to pick up some of those crows feet wrenches.
Excellent video. I watched a few videos before when I originally ordered my new R&P for a 1996 Buick Riviera. I'm glad I checked again and found yours since it looks identical to what I have to do. You have a knack for describing things well without being too verbose as you are in the middle of doing the procedure, just like Eric The Car Guy.
Yep just like mine they are bout all the same bro.bracket broke on mine.welded the hell out of it.doing good no leaks no problem.better than stock baby
I like the angle you took to get to the rack power steering line hose nuts. I plant to cut my regular 18 mm crows foot wrenches I half to make it easier to get to them. The stubby 18s aren’t sold locally.
I can't get the R&P connected to the steering link with that 11MM bolt. It looks like it's going in then just jams up. Tried spreading it but I'm not sure how well it spread
Take a screwdriver and a pair of Channell locks put the screwdriver in between there and twist it with the channel locks so you make sure that you get it spread apart
I have a 2001 Century with loose steering. Not sure if rack and pinion needs to be replaced yet, but I am considering replacing everything - tie rods, and control arms. Would you recommend anything else?
It's important to know if you have magmasteer or not. I'm thinking if you have electrical wires running to your rack you have magnasteer and if you don't you don't. Am I correct?
Very much so because they are the same frames and basically the same models even though they have a different engine it should be extremely similar if not identical
nooooo i just replaced my sway bar and i had the same issue with the equalizer trying to get it off but all i had to do was twist and turn it so the rust would break up
Oil seals for these rack & pinion each cost from $30 to $60 a piece. So money wise, by the time you rebuild them you might as well bought a whole new one.
I feel ya…. I say that stuff in my videos because sometimes even that $160 difference is the difference between eating for a week for some families and paying rent so.
@@sharpcarco Ha!, LoL. I'm in the middle of replacing the entire whole front suspension & steering system in my 2003 ss chevy Monte carlo. So yea... a case of canned peaches & variety packs of ramen noodles ... only thing kept me from starving 🤣
3 reasons most of rust we are in Michigan……. 2 you MAY need an alignment 3 it doesn’t need to be done it’s not necessary. Thanks for the kind words and I’m glad you mentioned that you were not criticizing because I would’ve assumed you were lol so thank you very much welcome to the channel
Well it’s kind of because of Covid the dog ate my false teeth during Covid and I was embarrassed about it…. back then I had money to buy new ones but….. sense that I have spent most of it and I never got any of the money that The government was handing out….. Now I don’t have it and I don’t care
I understand. Good video. I went from underneath to get the lines out. A lift helps a ton. I also have to replace the 4 subframe bushings so dropping the rear of the subframe will work out. Them bushings are expensive as shit
It’s also hard to hear me when you’re skipping through the video…….. since the only reason you would show any kind of animosity with a statement like that would be because you didn’t hear why I was wearing it……. Because it definitely didn’t have anything to do with Covid
You act like you paid something 😂😂😂 what I didn’t show you how to put a power steering rack in a Buick just like the title says…. ? Fing idiot. The audacity of people today is just so hilarious. Your like a little babies….

Nice work and video Clay. The more I watch these videos on rack and pinion the more I am inspired to do my own. Thanks Much.

Thank you very much that is a very kind compliment
Well explained. Going to be replacing the rack & pinion on a 2002 buick lesabre. Thank you. Subbed and thumbs up!
Nice to have you, brother thanks for taking the time to write that. I really appreciate it.
Thanks for this video. I referenced it several times in order to remove the rack and pinion from my 07 Buick Lucerne.
Thanks Jason I appreciate you taking the time to thank me for it I appreciate it very much
Ok man, like and subscribed. 2001 Buick LeSabre, looks like we're gonna be buddy's for a while
Great video. Very well explained and illustrated. Thank you much .
That was a great video you actually took your time to teach thank you so much I'm confident I can replace my now

What about the magna steer. How do u know if u have that on the 2000 buick lesabre custom?
This video rocks !!! Keep wrenching my friend 👌

Hi u doing my 2013 Buick lacrosse service power steering light came on and my wheel wnt turn at all once I parked it
Hey man, is this similar to a 2005 Buick Century with 3.1 V6? Thanks
Very much so because they are the same frames and basically the same models even though they have a different engine it should be extremely similar if not identical
Do I automatically need to buy a new rack and pinion or cud it be sumthin else

NO need to block the steering wheel?
I would like to know the same thing....
I'm thinking once you have both sides disconnected you probably should at least lock the steering column the protect the clock spring.
Wat size bolt
Why didn't you just let frame down and loosened the bolts holding the rack? Just asking not criticizing at all. All respect
