  • On the coast of the Caribbean island of Curacao, the freighter Stella Maris lies at a depth of 140 meters. It was sunk here about 20 years ago. The 98 m long wreck was supposed to serve as a diving spot for divers and as an artificial reef for corals and fish, lying at a depth of about 30 meters. But the freighter changed its mind and rolled down an underwater slope. Is therefore now lying on its side at a depth of about 140 meters. Inaccessible for divers, but not for a submarine. And that is possible with the mini-submarine Curasub of the Substation Curacao (info at www.substation...).
It is fascinating to glide past the freighter, the propeller staring into the sky, structures like winches and masts crisscrossed. Everything is reclaimed by nature, i.e. plants and animals, the rust forms bizarre sculptures. A unique experience.
This is only an excerpt of the two-hour underwater trip, more later on this channel and also to the islands of Curacao and Aruba.
