A very powerful, very subtle piece of design in the artwork here. Every other class has both male and female-marked members drawn for their visualization. The Survivor doesn't, of course, both because of the trans themes involved and because it's not like you can discern anything under all that gas clothing. But because of this, the Survivor is also the only playbook to be depicted as being _all alone._
I looked at survivor for the game I was in for five minutes and went with fisher instead. Survivor is way, way too real for me to do even as catharsis.
weirdly i actually didn't realise the mask thing was a metaphor at all at first, I thought it was just very literally someone who is still deathly afraid to take off this protective gear and has no idea how to relate to others due to a harsh upbringing (i think there's actually a character in the snowpiercer tv show who essentially acts like this from the episodes ive seen) i get it now after having all the moves explained like this
Gone Feral is amazing with Tough It Out. You won't pass out from injuries. The mob you're fighting will. You could pull some real anime BS and be the last person standing in every tavern brawl, probably covered in blood ("It's okay, most of it's not mine.") and with broken glass and knives sticking out of you.
So if you want to be the nicest survivor ever, you keep using Scavenger at every opportunity to look for "a person in need of help" and then, well, help them. Shot down pilots, refugees in desperate need of a ride to the next town, lost children from the next village over, an injured hunter, the possibilities are endless. And the "practical utility" is there too - the rep you'll earn as do-gooder and the odd reward from grateful relatives and the like ought to be well worth the effort, and you're handing the GM enough plot hooks they ought to be buying *you* pizza. Screw digging for random supplies and cash, I'm on search & rescue detail. :)
@@frangiblecover6350 Yep. Mechanically, your advancement will be very fast, and if/when you shed your core moves those stat boosts are nothing to sneer at either. There's got to be some crazy shenanigans you could pull with that Of Two Minds thing too. Access to any statline in the game plus being able to effectively split every stat advancement so they go where they work best seems real good. Develop (say) a combat monster mode with the mask on, and a mister nice guy for times when you can manage to take it off, that sort of thing.
Just wanted to say a big thank you for going so in-depth on Flying Circus. I originally came to your channel to see a take on Hard Wired Island and it linked to the FC one. I can honestly say it's my favourite RPG I've never played. Everything about it is great, from the themes, the setting to the crunchy goodness of the rules and when I find the right people I am going to subject them to this game with extreme prejudice. I'd never have come across this without you covering it.
The comfort object, mask on / off social mechanics, Of Two Minds and Gone Feral hit reeeeeeal close to me as someone with autism… I’ve been lucky to not live in a toxic environment, but the damage I’ve done to myself has left me pretty wrecked. But I can undo most of the damage, we all can…
the core concept is fascinating and surprisingly flexible. The idea of putting on a mask to survive a toxic environment could be applied to several types people including LBGT+, abuse survivors, hidden minorities maybe [as opposed to a more visible minority like skyborn] or refugees to name a few. I am curious to see how the soldier playbook compares. veterans I have talked to speak of a similar sort of mask they put on to survive and the difficulty of taking it of after "getting stuck on war mode".
Also folks who've had to conceal mental health issues or pretend to hold religious beliefs they find objectionable, and a fair number of criminals, convicted or otherwise. If I was being really cynical I'd include every politician that ever lived and most celebrities, but they arguably fall under the "mental health issues" blanket anyway. Times are tough all over, and lots of people have reasons not to ever show their real selves. Modelling that in abstract with game mechanics isn't something I'd personally want to do, but if it works for others more power to them. Just try to be respectful if you're doing it solely as a roleplaying exercise rather than to help get some catharsis - this strikes me as the kind of thing that could go horribly wrong very easily.
I just use whatever music there is from the youtube audio library, in fact I didn't actually keep a list of it so I'm not even sure what I was using...

Finally! A tabletop game that rewards my constant pessimism, AND gives me an in character excuse to not say anything!
Even better, its the perfect excuse to put on your best Darth Vader impersonation!

Holy-
Damn. Thank you for mentioning the plural angle for this playbook. It means a lot to us.
💜
If I, by some miracle of whatever power watches over us, ever get to play this game, this is the first character I'm making.
Same my man, I'm thinking of just Saying screw it and Running a game myself but I wanna be a player so bad.

When I decided to binge this series, I didn't expect one of the videos to hit home so goddamn hard
These zoom and pans on the art added an insane amount of production value. Looks amazing!
I really appreciate the way you approached the subject matter in this playbook/video. Thank you.
This is such a fascinating playbook, though it seems a little bit like playing the game on “hard mode”
Eh, you get good moves and a good plane at the start, the core move requires a bit of working around but remember that Stress becomes XP.

Gone Feral: In a knife-fight one person is left alive for the moment (and will probably bleed to death at the hospital)
"I didn't hear no BELL!"
I honestly think survivor is my favorite class. And the loeb & loeb plane seems like a decent all rounder in most situations.
Gone Feral doesn't care what armor or training or magic mcguffin the other people have. They are taking 1 injury. Thanks for the video.
man i love survivors
please do a lore video about Flying circus
Ah yes, the Death Korps Path

Hmm, of two minds + move exchange with a witch sounds fun. Take off your mask and suddenly you can do magic
Wow. How have I never heard of this before?
You want to role play as a flying ace pilot in a fantasy German setting? Then check out Flying Circus!
Wait I get to be a trans allegory AND get a cool gasmask? Sign me the heck up!

I'd really like to know what the background music you use is. It's very soothing and relaxing.

Who's cutting onions
Seeing as the author of Flying Circus is trans (from what I can tell) I suspect this playbook is somewhat personal to them given the allegory...
