THE ART OF WUMEI 伍枚 (Part II) - Master Yap Boh Heong | Season 3 EP 7
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 3 дек 2024
- In this episode, I visit Master Yap Boh Heong in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to discuss the rare and unknown Kung-fu style of the legendary Kung-fu empress Wumei (Ng Mui in Cantonese.)
According to oral history, legend has it that Wumei took refuge in the Southern Shaolin temple, where she later founded several styles of Kung-fu. It was there that she met 'Yim Wing Chun,' a young lady who was threatened by a local bandit attempting to force her into marriage. She was saved by Wumei, who distilled her profound knowledge of Shaolin Kung-fu into a system that Yim Wing Chun could learn quickly and use to fight off the bandit. The martial art Yim Wing Chun learned was given the name Wing Chun.

The show follows Kieren Krygier traveling the far east exploring different martial arts and learning the secret skills and knowledge of the Grandmasters. Each episode will investigate various aspects of each martial art by interviewing the masters and allowing them to demonstrate their style and abilities on film. Giving the viewers a great insight into the martial arts world, and a front-row seat to learn directly from the masters.
The Official Online Course of Master Yap Boh Heong is now live and available on The Martial Man website. The comprehensive instruction provided for Yan Shou Gong sets 1-6 in this course is ideal for martial artists who want to study an authentic Nei Gong system/internal art. Totally amazing! This art and science of Kung fu. And the gentleness of the master, who is a true badass without bragging. A true hero!
You're doing a great service to chinese martial arts. Thank you very much
By exposing how bullshit they are?
That technique displayed at the beginning is the same as one of the techniques done Goju Ryu’s Seiyunchin kata.
This is awesome! Thank you both for this
How many hours training would you say it takes to understand the song .. i mean to be able to not use force and return the other persons power so it does not effect you at all..? I have just started internal with Siukee Wan .. he has written a book called Wing Chun, Sil Nim Tao - the internal path .. i recommed it highly... I was ready to move house just to find a good teacher ..i'm so taken by this art but i am now 47 yrs old and feel gutted thtat this information was not told to us at a school level.. knowing many truths today this does not suprise me in the least... the healing power of the internal has been supressed for many years and for various reasons... these videos has once again put me on a journey of discovery ... thank you and thank all those who have shared this knowledge .. bless all
Another great and comprehensive interview Kieren, and about an art I have never even heard of. The external arts are fine if you are not planning on ageing, and something we begin with. If one studies the martial arts for long enough and are lucky enough to meet someone with genuine internal power there is no going back, you just have to go there in the end eh.Thanks, Rob Lindsay.
wumei taught yim wing chun only one set in her collection and created a whole system.... imagine how extensive her full set of forms is......
First of all , i would like to show all my deep respect to these grand masters..So precious to be able to have these figures nowadays to proof that the Art is Real and not just snake oil..As a Buddhist, i wish that students of these soft forms will be able to unlock and preserve these traditions to the end and to the highest level...To deeply understand that all these forms have been created for us to fight our fears...to open our Great Compassionate mind ..to make peace with ourself and to spread it to the whole world..
Incredible! This is such a rare art... I wish there was one nearby where I am. I've trained in CST Wing Chun actively for about 6 years and this kinda reminds me of it, but yet unique in its own way. Thanks for the video!

Good rec, thanks. Seems like a bit in common with Hakka Tong Long and Lung Ying (Ng Mui) in terms of final structure as demonstrated. Similar bio-mechanics with significant fundamental differences in the mindset/intent behind structure creation. "All roads lead to Rome ..." or something like that.
These arts are ARTS they are not for fighting. They are philosophies of movement. If you think that this is a viable combat system then you are delusional. Enjoy them for what they are.. an artform
@@sosmexin2078 @ "Art" infers high level of skill, not intent of activity. "Martial" identifies intent. Philosophy of movement? And just what do you think western boxing, BJJ, Krav Maga, ballet, etc., are?
@@sosmexin2078 keep dreaming. You obviously only understand brute force practice. The higher stuff is beyond your understanding.
@@sosmexin2078 That's a typical hard vs. so called "soft" styles comment. Master Yap has advanced his skills far beyond a "philosophies of movement". If you don't think his level of skill wouldn't help you in a combat situation--you're the one that is delusional. Or you don't understand the internal arts. Other problem is that there are so few practitioners of the soft styles that have reached this level of mastery. It takes years of practice to reach his level of skill & you'd have to do it under the guidance of a qualified Master of the art. Whereas, a few short years of practice of the hard arts & you have something that will for sure help you in a combat situation.
Thanks for sharing another gem of material arts!
That is just wild. I've trained enough years to know and understand intellectually what he's talking about, but I don't have the physical skill. I've never seen that 4 strike back fist before.
I'm still learning after 33 years!
Well Said these are great videos
I love it , It's like a chain of explosive movements with a steady flow and the great practitioners are about to make those strikes with each one more powerful than the next as they are delivered .
Great video ,
Cheers . Liked
Thank you
This bring it to a whole new level.
Excellent internal power. Soft is strong indeed . Thank you for sharing
Thanks for sharing this. I’ve never seen this system before. Ideally this needs to be experienced first hand from a Sifu of his caliber. Just watching the video doesn’t fully capture what’s happening and the power you’re experiencing. It was similar with training under Chu Shong Tin many years ago. These older masters are / were the real deal when it comes to mastering kung fu systems.
Yap Boh Heong and adam mizner i think are the best masters ,fighters
I've seen ever and on your channel
without offending other masters
I would like to learn from them
They both have a great gift for communicating what they know as well. Great skill and teaching ability do not often come in the same person.
Thanks so much for sharing. Truly subtle but strong. He's moving from the inside out. A very thin needle indeed!
this is amazing. looks like there's more minute control, or at least the awareness of the "strings", their controls and releases than in taiji. instead of jusg song and grabbing control of a joint or muscle or tendon deep inside your body, his "rain" made your sense the tingling/vibration? damn, that's more magic than even i can handle. i wonder what's the relationship between taiji and wumei. did they share an ancestor?
Again...thank you for posting this!

Great interview, very open master.
Thank you
This is a cool series and reminds me of Chris Krudelli's TV shows, many years ago.
Very useful video! Thank you very much from Russia!
been training since 1978, not huge into Chinese arts but always seem to find something interesting and learnable, no matter the culture it came from. Once you stop learning your done. Closing your mind to new skills and you stop learning.
His ability to redirect your own energy seems outside of the usual newtonian physics. I wonder can this only be used with people? Can it affect animals, or plants or even inanimate objects like weapons?
I would have to experience it to believe it.
Vince Wijsman @ There's nothing stopping you if you really want the experience.
@@The-Contractor I will be meeting with a Chen Tai Chi instructor in the coming weeks and hope to have this discussion with him. I will let you know how it turns out.
@@vincewijsman8274 @ You made a positive move for personal experience. Good for you. Use to push hands with a Taoist Monk. Like playing with water. Enjoy.
@@vincewijsman8274 A lot is going to depend on the skill level of the instructor. Internal power is still rare...or perhaps more aptly, mastery of internal power is rare. Just about every martial artist, hard or "soft" style practitioner will occasionally will demonstrate some form of chi projection. Mastery is on a whole over level. And there is going to be varying levels of skill.
Save your time and money al of this is bullshit.
Outstanding video. Would have also been great to see some demonstrations at a faster speed
. Friendly half speed demo sparring to see the effectiveness in action.
Jeff A. It’s difficult to film any type of sparring as once Master Yap makes contact with your initial attack, he controls and manipulates your balance so that you’re not able to generate any speed or power. There is some excellent footage of me trying to Qin na (joint lock) Master Yap in free play during the interview which I will upload to the members area of my website this weekend.

Congratulations to the master!
Wow a beautiful art
Wow what a video very impressive the master knows what he's mastered at very good I like to follow I have more of that idea

Hip Stance will provide wishful pick up to recede opponent smoothly. I believe there are 128 of these Axiomatics. Thank you, Ajay Sije.
Hi Kieren, I am huge fan of your channel and what I would really like to see in your vlogs is a sparring partner, from a combat sport background in full gear, pressure testing a master for 45 seconds or 1 mn, so we can truly appreciate the 'realness' of these wonderful MA you have been indulging us with.
Don't hold your breath.
Having spent considerable time learning under the late Sifu Fung (Jimmy) & his Sifu Chu Shong Tin, I could only suggest, these masters don’t spar. They fight. In a challenge, even a friendly challenge, the safety of the other fighter could not be guaranteed.
I would love to begin learning the first form of Wumei. I have Taiji/WC and 5 animals background and have enough foundation in sung and tendon release/strengthening to understand and mimic some of these skills(in slow non-fighting speed only). Each internal art builds a new mind or perspective to make it work and though internal arts have many similarities they each have fundamental differences that require nuances like learning the location of where those 4 stings in the back are located. It would be of great help and insight to have a video explaining the string theory of the body as it is seen by a Wumei practitioner.
There will be an opportunity to learn WuMei from Master Yap Boh Heong in the near future. I will be announcing the full details early next year (2020). In the meantime, there are currently 10 unseen member's videos on Wumei available to watch in the member's area of my website. Including several videos detailing the "internal strings" and how to use them. themartialman.com/members-only-videos
@@THEMARTIALMAN Thank you for that. Though the subscription cost is small compared to the value of what you have provided, I have yet to budget it. I fully intend to join and appreciate what you have done to help preserve these precious arts. You have good cinematography skill, perhaps Master Yap Boh Heong would allow you to produce a training video for the first form only including the important nuances. Those willing to invest in learning a foundation form will be the ones coming back in person for the 2nd form and so on until only those who will maintain the integrity of the art how it's supposed to be taught would even know the external movements of the 5th form.
THE MARTIAL MAN are the full forms demonstrated in the members videos?
How does someone developed that soft power?
That would be a good video.
They don't it's fake.
They said that comes from Gods
Master Kuo, Lien Ying referred to this as 'Cotton Palm' and is a major aspect of Guang Ping Yang Taiji Chuan as it is used in 'push hands' practices. Wumei's finger strikes and cloud hands evasiveness is a part of Fujian White Crane's deployment as practiced by Master Y.C. Chiang.
Just to be clear, 'Cotton palm' refers to an evasiveness that allows one's center to be difficult to find. It's a softness that allows a reversal from defense to offense and is a feature of good 'push hands' practice.
Awesome thank you
No problem!
is wumei effective in street fight against a strong and fast opponent?
Could be said to be yes, if you have less physical strength. But requires adequate, if inferior speed. Given the command of space, and principles that's shown here.
Like if bullet is shot at you, you don't require same velocity, or kinetic energy.
Just sufficient to (1)intercept, (2)deflect/redirect.
(2) pretty much being, what wumei principles' about
Please Martial man, travel to San Fran and seek out Master Cheuk Fung! His Yi Chuan and inner skills are exceptional and some of the best of present day. Thank you 🙏🏻

Excellent internal technique.

Interesting video. What are the 4 strings at the back?
Southern martial arts, hung gar used the back muscle to generate force that is more direct.
What in the world did you have to do to get this type of treasure jewel of knowledge
I am impress. I live in Montreal Canada and want to learn and practice this martial art, is there a place that you know that you can tell me. Thank you.

Skin ,tendon, muscle, bone . A deeper understanding in body mind and spirit but only high level practitioners could execute such high level skill .
I am really impressed. Should be possible to see the hand cloud form in your Web site? I found it really interested because in Karate exists a kata call hand cloud too and it start exactly in the same way using fingers. I would like to see if there is any other similarities. Thanks
That's because Karate was originally Fujian White Crane. After the White Crane martial art made it's way to Okinawa, Japan, it became Karate. White Crane is related to Wumei, and White Crane also has something called cloud hands, I think. Martial Man has an episode on Karate where he is in Japan. I think that episode covers this.
Thanks Martial Man for exposing different styles of martial arts ,there are some styles i didn't know existed , it is very educational ,all blessings✌
Hi, this is a wonderful martial art video, I have a request that would you let me have the contact this Chinese master Yap Boy Heong because I would like to request the master to explain it tin Chinese ( Cantonese ) way, I do believe many Chinese will have much interest to view and learn more about that, Thank you , I am from Hong Kong.
Martial man, how can I train to become more SONG? I am struggling to understand this. I've done kung fu since 2008 and gigong internal exercises but how to be more SONG? please help me get on the right path :)
Dutch Ultra there are exercises taught to develop Sōng that are specific to each teacher and their system. To first understand Sōng, you need to experience it from someone who actually has the skill.
Song is the key. Finding teacher is difficult. Try to catch Adam Mizner when hes in your area. Look up his calendar. Good luck.
It is just relaxed everyday mind. When you strike imagine you are giving someone a flower.
@@JohnMartin-jx1wz Sōng is not a "relaxed everyday mind" It is a condition of the body that is achieved through specific training.
@@THEMARTIALMAN Sure it is. Song is a peice of pish to attain. Any idiot can do it, you dont need body structure for tai chi. Its something they tell the children.

There seem to be a wide range of styles with the name Wumei but with very little in common besides that. Some are very soft internal arts like this, and others seem totally external with just a few gestures in common.

Allways try their techniques against jab, 1,2. Hook, uppercut, overhand haymaker, low kick, clinch. This whole thing leaving the arm strikes is confusing too many people about the reality of fighting.
And how they entry on boxers guard.
People often try to compare a boxer, who is literally made out of muscle and could potentially kill someone with one punch and trains all day, to masters who have gotten a reduced form of their art. People did not create martial arts for fun, they did it to kill. Obviously back then there was much more experience in actual battle and the styles were much more refined. Who is going to win in a standoff: A guy who practices at a gun range, or someone who has served in the millitary and has been in multiple deployments? Huge difference.

I think there is truth to this lesson, but how much the martial man went along with some stuff out of respect is probably up for debate.. But if need more convincing about all this mystical energy stuff and using your mind... I think a great place to look is at the teachings of the iceman and how he is able to generate heat and energy from his body and even influence his own immune system.. What he does is similar to what the old martial artists did with the internal energy and meditation/breathing etc.. Now this is a real world example that has even been scientifically studied.. learn about that guy and then maybe you can understand how some people have done the same with martial arts.
