This has got to be the best version, the hardcore screaming goes so much better with this song. Also the instruments make it sound like a post-punk/rock song.
Gotta respect an artist who can jump on stage and sing a heavily distorted song without the aid of the computer. He's gonna be expecting criticism, that's all part of the game. He sung it spot on, same as the album version near-enough. Only difference is the post-recording mixing. Raw talent will beat pseudo talent everyday. 10/10
No, he didn't sing it "spot on." It was bad. Have you ever heard of Phil Anselmo? Corey Taylor? They sing heavily distorted songs ON CUE and in tune, without sounding like their voices are going to break in half. This guy was not designed for this music.
A lot of people seem to hate this version, but I like this much better than the studio version. I grew up in the punk era, when all the polish was taken out of music and you could actually hear the people behind the songs. Modern music bores me because it's all been buffed down to a colorless blob of sound.
I totally agree with you on that one, music is best when it's raw.....it holds onto all of it's raw emotions....music today that is polished and seemingly without flaw is without emotion. Love your definition of today's music.

Andrea Dodd I cant even understand why someone wouldn't be a fan of this version, its amazing. they are haters and dont understand how hard it is to recreate this kind of song. radiohead much? thats a good thing...
This is a one of the greatest love recordings I heard in a long time. This is when Awolnation sounds like a really good band, the studio version is still equal in my opinion.
"the engineer is the man" You mean producer, and no, it's not hard to double vocals and add heavy doses of pitch correction. Listening to the studio version I almost cringe at how extremely obvious the pitch correction is, like they didn't even TRY to hide it
You can visibly see how much strain this song takes for him to sing. I do like the studio version better, but the guitar solo in this...damn it sounds nice.
@@martinspear1105 LOL. Really? Ha ha ha ha ha How old are you, child? If you're older than 12 you're probably riding the short bus to school and Mom should take away the computer...
Yeah, that's because he is. It's unfortunate really. I love this band, but he is only going to last a little longer before needing vocal surgery, assuming he doesn't learn proper technique.
@@optic80 Yeah and no? Alan does the changes quite well but watch the keyboardist. How far back does "rasp" really go in recorded music? Joplin, Jagger, Stewart, Rogers, McCartney (a long list could follow) sang with "rasp" back in the 60s. And THEY had plenty of American Blues singers from the 40s and earlier to learn / "borrow" from... Ah well, I should just listen and maybe listen again, and celebrate the song and performance for what it is - beautiful and live.
Bravissimi! Adoro
I really love the rough sound he made, even though without autotune it seems like he's hurting his throat and our ears, but this is a crazy song, the singer should sound crazy
How can you hate this yet love the studio version? Take away the music and he sounds just like this. Yeah, maybe he doesn't sound like an angel but his voice is raw and edgy and some people, including myself, like that.
Anyone saying this is no good or he can't sing should leave. This is the type of music they make and this is the voice that goes with it. Sounds great to me
I really don't know what your problem is, guys. I mean I think it isn't easy to perfom this song live, and of course it sounds different than the studio recorded version. But in my opinion Awolnation did a very good live performance with that. In fact I find it actually better than the studio recorded version. And it's amazing how Aaron Bruno can sing/scream like that, but that's a matter of opinion I guess. (Maybe because his voice remind me a bit of Kurt Cobain's x) )
When I first heard this song on the radio I thought it was another "DJ" making soundscapes and hiring a singer to dub a song. After seeing these guys on Letterman(I think) I completely changed my view on AWOLNATION and have formed a new respect for this rock-alt-pop(?) band. This might not be their greatest performance, but is still relevant to the group and their history. P.S. AWOLNATION is coming to a town nearby *fingers crossed* I can get tickets
It's a powerful song with a gritty, attention-getting vocal...but I fear for the singer. He's going the Robert Plant route if he doesn't take care of those vocal cords.
I've always assumed this song would sound amazing with real instruments and raw vocals. I'm blown away. Thanks, RUclips for the recommendation.

@@dustinledbetter5647 Also, the Meute version.
I love this performance cause:
1:voice from the heart
2: No lip syncing shit
I think the people here just listen pop music but he sing very well and a lot of popstar are not able to do that
Na real, ele só grita e fora do tom ainda. Força demais a voz e desnecessariamente.
and singer resembles Curt Cobain
Holy crap I'm a little late to the party but damn am I blown away. I didn't think this song would be anywhere near this badass live.. great job guys
this song is so hard to replicate live, awesome job!

He sounds so much more passionate here than the official music video, definitely my favorite playing of sail
I like the music video more, the beat was way better in the music video and also he hits the high notes better.
@SnipingFromTheShadows Yeah, he's a little off key.. And the kind of edit it out, the raspiness in hos voice.

Totally agree
Maybe they are tired of this song....but I love it Every way they play it. Aaron puts emotion into his performances and it gets me every time.
It doesnt matter how you sing its why you sing that matters and I personally love his voice!
Very true. But he won't have much of a voice if he keeps singing like that.

The fact that this sounds so "bad" is the reason it sounds so good. I much prefer this version honestly.

Great song, great voice, great guitar solo. This one is better than studio recording, more raw and emotional.

It's called screaming... and with the right technique you don't hurt your voice...

This is really just so Amazing. I prefer a raw and broken sound. Emotion over autotune pleeaaaseeee
His voice is all over the place. That raw quality doesn't come naturally at all.
This was amazing. I am always astonished by hours voice. How does he scream/sing like that???
Oops. I meant his.
How can he scream/sing like that? Do you know who Axl Rose is
Michael Jackson sings like this with even more power and emotion.

God dammit sounds like he is gonna cough up his vocal cords
Maybe they should've added little distortion to vocals, that's all they needed
Blame it on his ADD baby.

I actually enjoyed the crazy yelling and out of tune singing. It gave the song that much more edge.
